  1. thanks for the relpies guys dwells- yeah yesterday was a rotten day Bea- yeah that's what the vet told me the lamp was for, even told me the type and idea's on were to pick up a cheap one before I told him we had one. She is still sleeping alot and looking sorry for herself I gave her meds today and did a bang up job, (Laughing out loud). At lest she got most of it.
  2. Thanks Julie :bluebudgie: She has eaten quite a bit over the afternoon so I'm very pleased.
  3. that's very true and it is heading ito winter here. I normally have then covered over but I would rather her warm. Not sure aobut the heat I will check it before I go to bed tonight (it's 2pm right now) if i'm worried i'll turn it off. here is a picture of her now: she never sleeps with her head tucked up.
  4. no they never seem sick at the vets do they. Not a lot yet I think she needs to rest up after that trip. Tell you all now this was the first vet trip ever. (with a bird) And it was a lot of thanks to the info I have picked up on this board that helped me. 20 mins wow that would had me panicked. She only lasted 5 mins maybe at the topsmost. But then she could have been sick before with out me seeing. I've never had to use a lamp on a bird before should it be left on all night as well? Didn't think to ask at the vets, I was just glad she was not as sick as I was imagining.
  5. No she made no sound at all from the time she was sick the 15 min car ride and the next 15 mins wait for the vet. Nothing I was really worried she only make that cranky leave me alone sound when he held her the second time. I've checked on her and she is sleeping under the lamp. I didn't want to bother her any more than she was with Pie dancing around her all worried looking so I didn't pick her up untill after she had finished. It was as if she knew I was tying to help since she lept onto my finger and didn't make a fuss when i moved to her the other cage. I was happy to see try to eat some more seeds, I though that had to me a good sign. The seed and water from the other cage have been thrown out and relpaced just in case as well, since the vet wasn't sure how she got sick.
  6. thanks Bea I hope so too, she should be getting better in 24-48 hours. rainbow- it is very scary and yes I have seen on do it before (one of my earily birs but i didn't know it was bad then ) so I knew she was beeing sick and not trying to feed another like a male. Not that it looks at all the same. I don't remember the full term but it's a bacteral infection.
  7. Poor little girl I saw her today all fuffed up and with her head tucked over he back sleeping, and i but it down to the fact that is is wet and raining here today, but then checking in of them all again I saw her throwing up seeds !!!!!!!!!!!!! Quick smart i called the Vet to see if she could be seen, since I know this is a bad sign for budgies. I got in and I'vejust come back now with Baytrill to give her once a day. Nothing was wrong with the swipes he did (both crop and fecal) but there was a rise in something with a fancy name which isn't good for them (good for us to have but not birds) Poor sweety. But as least I know I got to it early. She is now alone in the spare cage I had, Pie is doing quite well with out her next to him, I think it's becuase he can't see she is in another cage. She has a lamp on her for heat as he suggested and I'm making her some egg and carrot mix as easy food to eat for her. The vet was really nice, told you why he was doing this or that and showed me how to give the meds ( only after checking that it was easy for me to catch her to give it to her.) The fist time he handled her she didn't make a noise but the second time she had a bit of a fuss which I was happy to see, i mean if someone grabed you and shoved something down your thoat to your belly you wouldn't want to get handled again either.

    aww sorry dutchman.
  9. remove the box once the clutch has fledged. If you haven't another female sitting they will lose the eggs if any in there. And since you are getting another cage now for the none breeding birds once the nest is gone oyu can split them into males and females.

you should try to rezise the ones i deleted, they were nice too Pitty you lost the yellow one dutchman it was a lutino. both are vrey cute

well since there is like 30 odd different Eucalyptus tree in aussie I don't think they would stop at just one sort, since wild budgies fly to different areas at differant times. My lot LOVE the ones I leave on the nature branches I get from my garden for them, they rip them up straight away then start on the bark. It's great just to watch them.
  12. Is there a reason you want these bird matched up? If not swap them around, they may simply not like the other bird. I would leave pair three and see if something happens soon if the hen this the interested in 'fixing' up the box then she may be either ready to breed soon or lay soon. It sounds like you don't want you birdies outside, they should be okay with the finches, I have never done that but I have herd of many that have them living together. Also there is a higher risk of fighting if they are outside together as the hend will/can fight over the boxs the males might/will fight over the hens and if any babies show up you could lose them becuase another hen attackes them. Just things to think about.

HI Bev, that must be very hard to see all of them on the ground. Is this the hen's first time? Anything could have been the cuase they could have been infurtile, or she just didn't know what to do and so tossed the eggs out. Or as others have said another hen could be after her nest. No question is stupid, how else to we get to know what we need. Candling is just as your thought you hold a stong touch light to the eggs, after 5-7days (I think) and look for faint red lines to know that something is growing, if clear then it is normally infurtile. There would be no harm in letting her have another clutch now to try again. If your worried about the last egg getting broken then if you have another sitting on eggs you can move it over to her. Good luck

Bet that was hard a baby just ready to leave the nest and fly into the world and the parents go nuts. Hath has answered as I was going to, but since he has taught me a lot about breeding that's no suprise to me (just the fact that I remembered the right answer, (Laughing out loud))

I'm not at all sure. I think it would be fine to move eggs since big breeders move eggs all over the play with fostering and what not. But it's really up to the mum if she would take a bother to the new nest or not. Is there no other sitting mum to be that you could put the eggs under? Even just some for them and let the mother in the small nest raise one or two.

Congratuaitons, I hope all continues well for you. In the wild budgie will nest in more open spaces then the nest boxes we provide. Your right with the colours green always shows over blue, but since you don't know the background of either of your birds, you may get a surpirse if one or both have hidden genes
  17. *Nerwen* replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
if he is the sire of both sets of eggs and is now only feeding one of them then the other female will either continue on her own (which they can do) or abandon the eggs. If she does that you could move them over with the other hen if you are not overburding her with too many mouths at the end of it.
  18. well interesting, I would never have thought to offer them to my birds. The only reason I am thinking about do so now is because others have stated they have done so. Just remember there is no one to stop lies and incorrect info to be put up on websites. Also these leave are poisonous, they would certainly make us sick, and it?s hard work even for the Koala to eat them. So I would caution the over use of them.

Aww I'm glad to here the fighting has calmed down. I'm glad I didn't have to worry about that, Pie was on the bottom of the ladder when it came to rank and he took one look at Freckle and bowed to her power, (Laughing out loud).

None of mine have ever liked to be patter on the head or anywere althought Marine is starting to like a but of a stroked on the chest. Imotive- cloudy think that is what you are asking, to teach a bird to 'step up' you push on their belly, if you want to pat him/her then try up a bit higher.

okay so that didn't work with the picture If your using Photbucket you should once uploading the picture have something that looks like this: you want to copy the bottom html (the bit titled img) then paste it in your post and it should work fine.

If after you have had this one and gotten biten by the budgie bug like so many of us do you can still and another later on. As to cage, just the biggest you can afford and it's best to have it longer than higher. Just don't get one of the 'budige start kits' that pet stores sell they are way to same and don't get a round cage they are not good for any type of bird. Hope this helps

Is the problem with the feathers just on the head or are there other blad spots ?Budgies when picking on each other go for the head area first. I don't know about the beak, never having to deal with one before. As for how long for feathers to come back well that depends on what stage the bird is at in the molting cycle. Could be a few week to a few months before he starts to molt again.
  24. very nice Rainbow I hope this help folks around here a lot
  25. That would not last a week with my litle ones, not with Freakle going for gold on ripping it up Were did you find it? With the next one you will have to get shot of them getting in to it
