Help To Sex Young Budgies..
first two are young males third is an older male which needs to be treated for scaley face as there are symptoms on both beak and feet. foruth A bit hard to tell as the photo is fuzzy but it looks pink enough for me to say male. five - the colour on this picture is a bit off but with the blue tone of the cere and the fact the throat spots appear to be baby feathers (young bird not yet had it's first moult) i would say female.

Mutation Prediction Again
squeak DF YF 2 doesn't get a white face only a reduction in the amount of yellow appearing on the bird. it is only DF YF 1 that has a white face. sky blue normal cock x sky blue opaline spangle hen 50% sky blue normals 50% Sky blue spangles All males will be split Opaline type 2 yellow faced grey opaline cock x sky blue dominant pied opaline hen 12.5% YF grey opalines 12.5% YF blue Opalines 12.5% YF blue Dom pied Opalines 12.5% YF grey Dom pied opalines 12.5% grey opalines 12.5% blue Opalines 12.5% blue Dom pied Opalines 12.5% grey Dom pied opalines As most greys are single factor i based the results on that and based it on the cock being a single factor YF

Views On Cement
thanks guys I thought it was meant to be easier to clean and maintain which had be saying i want to cement it down first. Thanks for the link i did a search under cement not Concrete have to also work out how to move the cage over as well but i'm sure we can manage with a few trailers. I've had a quote given to me for about $300 for the cement and the work done for free which sounds great to me

Views On Cement
I'm interesting in hearing views on having cement laid down for an aviary. Since I have to set up my aviary again now that have a house with a backyard I was thinking of putting it on cement. I'm after easy of maintenance and control of any pests, (mice) Is it better, worse, same??

New Member :)
sky blue spangle for the first one not clearwing. the pied on the left appears to be double factor, the one on the right single factor.
-
New Baby
close Ratzy, since she is young it is hard to say which sort of YF she has. I would say type 2 as she has yellow colouring on her wings (type 1 should have white wings)

Unsure Of Mutations
sorry Dean I didn't read the 'normal' before the white face only saw that after YF2.. my bad!
-
Unsure Of Mutations
DF YF2 does NOT give whitefaces babies. only the YF tuype1 does that. The yellow on a DF YF2 is reduced but not removed completely.

New Baby

Changing Colour During 1st Moult
Dean beat me to it. perfectly normal
-
What Do I Have?
why is everyone willing to rule out that these three chicks are from the parents stated, not all colony breedings are mixed. The results are normal for a pairing like this.

Violet Pied?

My 1st Baby Just Hatched!
congratulation. hen always seemed rough with the bubs to me. as to the time i haven't had a problem with my hens feeding young, i left them alone and checked only morning and night and the bub was always feed by the next check after finding a hatched chick.

Pet Care And Feeding.......then And Now
hugs Kaz - you are doing a great job and they are all looking wonderful, yes i believe a lot of vets these days are made to push the stock a lot more than in the past. personally i would think changing a diet that drastically on an animal with the stress of raising young is stupid, it would add more stress to the dog as it is something it is unfamiliar with and would upset their digestion track more than one raw egg. I'm glad you are going to use a different vet, i didn't like the sound of this one from when Maggie and the runt Moo wasn't checked correctly in the first place.

Aviary Lights
that is a god one Kaz i like that idea.
-
Aviary Lights
mine are outside where they can't reach but it still gives light enough for them
-
Strange Spangle?
you would have to tell us the colouring of the parents first to determine that any better than guessing like you. however due to the colouring of siblings i would believe you are correct. was there meant to be a picture?
-
Aviary Lights
i use solar powered xmas lights, it give a liitle light to one corner of the aviary and i don't have to worry about power usage. the bird seem to settle to sleep closer to the lights.

Pecks Away At Perch - Right Through - Destroys It
hens can be destructive when in breeding condition (and since we give them the best this is almost all the time)
