  1. Then again little Frankie would work too
  2. Ble tongues are insect eaters I think a baby budgie would be too big. Not sure what would happen with eggs on the ground though..
  3. Mauve is a blue bird with two dark factors. Which I wouldn't have thought Hotlips had, but the both have clear blue cheek patches. Greys have grey ones. Grey-greens are to do with the grey line.
  4. :(Laughing out loud): love the one on the laptop. Yep I will just have to take Bobby to keep Melon company on the trip back to my place
  5. YEP And there isn't a way looking at the bird to tell which one it is.
  6. Sorry if this is seeming like a lot of pointless questions but we are just always after a bigger picture. You stated you use a syringe, your not using a crop tube as well? I read that the miss placement of that can irate the oesophagus. which might explain this behaviour.
  7. Interesting Hurdy. I've believe if was an odd arrance of the two gene mixing that caused the DEC. But having the gene continue the nomal behaviour would make more sence.
  8. Single factor spangle is where they have the thin markings one the edge of the wings. A Double factor spangle looks like Luntino or Albinos without the red eyes. I can only show you a SF spangle: Edited for a different picture the first oen was very fuzzy.
  9. I'm with Hurdy, both number two and three look like mauves. Unless the flash is messing things up Number one and three look like girls and number two a boy. All great babies.
  10. It's how Freckle gained her name.
  11. Nope its the dutch (or clearflight) pied gene together with the recessive pied gene that make a DEC they clearflight doesn't need to be split.

Karen just asking here rather than another post. but what sort of disinfectant do you use to clean the aviary. I'm trying to find out what would be safe to use on mine.
  13. Riebie I know the answer to that but I will leave it for Una to tell you the joy of that job.

(hugs) I sorry to hear that the result was what we thought. It clear right now that he isn't suffering so take the time to think about what you think would be best, to try to remove it know the BIG risk it is to put a bird under that stress. Or to let him live out his life with the rest. No matter what you pick I will understand. It's a big choose to euthanize and althought many 'think' isn't an easy choice when they turn comes around it's not as black and white as they thought. Just remeber this little one is in YOUR care not anyone elses and it is your belief and peace of mind which you need to live with afterwards. Blow a Kiss to Pippin for me.
  15. Hugs to you Terri and Piper and Pippin.
  16. Well the ones with the flash it looks really light but the one with out it look normal. Might be light grey (no dark factors)
  17. looks snazzy Una! Make my new one look so small now :(Laughing out loud): Are you thinking of getting more birds?
  18. Shawna knows that they are too young just yet :fear I would think of putting a pair of dilute together: Male Dilute YF2 (possibly goldenface) (which I think is Sylvester) and the Female Dilute Green (Beka?) This will give normal wings and most likely green (but Beka could be split for blue) but more dilutes. another is: Female Dark Green Clearflight Pied (Daffodil) and either the yf2 males or the recessive pied. Clearflight gene and recessive gene together makes DEC that look like albinos or lutinos. With the yf2 males you can get green ones like mum with out the opaline and maybe blues if she is slpit for blue.
  19. lovey your link opens this thread I havent ever heard that Lutino can't get an iris ring. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....wtopic=9302&hl= This is Karens thread and the picture of the daddy bird shows the white ring in the eye.
  20. No worries at all Daz
  21. Where is the dilute coming from??? Your right Cheeta with the Opline Spangle. I can't see any sign of dilute the lines on the flight feathers are strong in colour. I think becuase Mr here has a grey body the grey markings are confusing folks becuase normal grey on wings mean dilute (or greywing/ clearwing)
  22. You can't have greywing and dilute at the same time, it's one or the other. But your right she has pale marking and I would hazard a say at Clearwing. I think she has a pied genew ith her too looking at the bottom of the wings. In the other pictures I could tell if the markings went all the way to the flight feathers or not.
  23. Yep eterri's site is great Good luck with your picking Karma-k. Lovey- yep I think it's cloud. petey- most of the times that's true but there are exceptions. As in wether the bird is hand tame or not, if they aren’t all will bite very hard in panic. Sometimes the males learn at a young age that biting gets a funny response and so continue to bite harder and harder and then other time you just find a male that can bite hard. Rainbow has males that have a deadly beak compared to females.
  24. thanks Riebie No I don't do anything exta with them they just grow and grow and grow. I was lucky and got strong nails from my Dad. Mum and Dad are still feeding but the oldest three are trying to eat seeds and test out the fresh veggies.
  25. I haven't hand reared before but I would like the idea of changing the food. Just like you would change it for a human baby. I will come back if I find anything of help in my new book. What happens if you clean their beak? Does it stop?
