  1. First and Formost : A guide to Colour Mutations and Genetics in Parrots. By Dr Mickael J Cannon and printed by ABK Publications Yes it covers all parrots but there is still heaps of information about Budgies. They have a website to look at all the books they have.
  2. see now didn't I warn you about the picture deal Everyone here is crazy about them.
  3. all different thickness is fine, the more the better that way their little feets get a work out Just make sure the tree you are using is safe for your birdies. You can get brackets that hold the branch in place from pet shops, they hang of wire but the branch needs to be cut to size. I used thick wire to hold mine in place, that way I was able to place them how I wished, with some of the branches sticking through the wire like lovey does with the cage.
  4. :budgiedance: good to see ya.

how long have you given anti-biotics? did you check that worming and the med could be used together?? If she is unable to stand without help now I think calling your avain vet is the best bet. What do you mean by coughing? is there any seed or other stuff being brought up with the coughing?
  8. unless the other 'normal' is a normal blue then the yellowface gene is dominant to it, so there should be 50% YF and 50% whitefaces, if the YF is only singlefactor.
  9. err thoses answers don't seem to match to the parents. Dad is a yellowface type 2 normal and Mum is a mauve (possible mauve violet) opaline.
  10. with recessived they might not have the blue around the chest area to give the 'green' look that you would find on a normal YF. The fact that the yellow has bleed into the body of the bird at all marks it as a Type 2. If the body of the bird had remained white with the yellow only on the fact then it would be a type 1. Does that make sence? As lovey said more moults later could/will make the yellow travel down more and possible turn the blue greenish.
  11. aww that it too cute :ausb:

(Laughing out loud) he wasn't letting that stick out of his site. I love the lseeping ones
  13. Try it out see how well you do. I didn't make this all credit goes to tri-statebudgie.org. Look forward to see who tries it. 1) Can a recessive pied be bred from a pair of dominant pieds? 2) Can a dominant pied be bred from a pair of recessive pieds? 3) There are no known dominant varieties with red eyes. Is this statement true or false? 4) Is it possible for a bird to be visually carrying the color gray, violet, dark factor, sex-linked, dominant and recessive traits all at the same time? 5) The yellow face on a yellow face blue is considered to be a dominant trait. What is the white face on a green considered to be? A. also a dominant trait B. does not exist C. a recessive trait D. a sex-linked trait 6) Name four varieties for each of the following. Dominant Recessive Sex-linked 7) What are the only ways to breed a sex-linked cock? Mark all that apply. A. hen has to be normal, cock has to be normal B. hen has to be normal, cock has to be split C. hen has to be normal, cock had to be sex-linked D. hen has to be split, cock has to be normal E. hen has to be split, cock has to be split F. hen has to be split, cock has to be sex-linked G. hen has to be sex-linked, cock has to be normal H. hen has to be sex-linked, cock has to be split I. hen has to be sex-linked, cock has to be sex-linked 8) When a bird is said to be masking something, what does that mean? Also, give an example. A. split for another color or variety B. preventing the true visual color or variety to be seen C. dominant for large spots on a deep mask 9) What dominant varieties change appearance when they have two genes for the trait? 10) What does it mean when a bird is said to be split? A. two colors present as in a pied B. not visible on the bird but carrying one gene for another color or variety C. two colors/varieties present, dividing the bird down the middle; halfsider
  14. I agree with Radar he did not look greygreen in real life. His tail isn't black like the picture but a dark blue. As to Bubbles he was a yellowface grey the yellow bleed would give a greygreen/dark green look to the bird. Cookie is a tpe of blue, looking at the cheek spots on her. There are mauve violets that look greyish. *thinks she need to do a grey lesson* to get noraml grey you need the grey gene and the blue gene. so no greygreen from a two blue based birds. as stated above the bleed from type 2 can make them look grey green.
  15. I guess I took brissy weather over with me (Laughing out loud), it was nice last week. Lucifer is a stunner.
  16. violet will too daz to give you a olive looking bird.
  17. that's more like I was remembering :rip: thank you.
  18. might have been. she was never close to me to get a great look at.
  19. glad you were able to get some advise, breeders know heaps of info and if he is that big into it ( anyone paying htat much is) he would have heaps of knowledge when it comes to breeding.

welcome to the place. Your birds sound wonderful and we do love pictures here. Who is the owner of the eggs and babies?
  21. OH my I was thinking all this time of another one. Then who is the pale violet oplaine you have? she has no black on her wings at all.
  22. That is Freckle, Reepi is the next picture down. I think she is going to be a minty green colour later on. Thank all for the comments, I'm glad they are all so well now after the meds. On a side on note little scuttle was just picked up to go to his new home. :rip: It's so quite now that there isn't a single bird in the house.
