  3. I"ll be culling at lest 80 - 90 in the next few months. I would like ti get down to only 50 birds before May. If you are starting out. you should only get 3 pair of good quality birds. Any more is really not required.
  4. My mix is approx 2 parts Canary, 1 part White french, 1 part Jap, 1/2 part panicum.
  5. ....and it can be a pain when you are trying to get the bird in and out of the cage as it does it's job well.
  6. I wouldn't buy a bird with a bad fault to start with. A slight fault is easier to over look.
  7. Not a good photo but there is a required catch to the right of the hing.
  8. My Shed is 3m x 4.6m with the flights and breeding room. Breeding room is 3m x 2.3m and I've bred 113 chicks in 7 months.
  9. Welcome aboard David, you are probibly doing the best thing in getting ideas and information first before getting your birds.. Let us explain every thing we've done wrong so you don't have to go through it
  10. Very good Liv. .... Where is the tear drop latch? Should be one top right of the door next to the hing. Show us a photo when done, please.
  11. From the photo I agree with Neville. It looks like a type 1.
  12. I'd Pair a Violet Sky /recessive Cock to a Recessive pied cobalt or Mauve hen.
  13. You can have a look at my set up. Just click on my signature and go to the link to the avery. There is a plan of where the breeding cabinets are to the flights.
  14. A very beautiful Recessive pied Violet Hen. Just about to come in to season. For those wishing to breed for show this is not a good specimin of a recessive pied. The wing markings are too dark. There should be only 10% - 15% markings on the wings.
  15. RIPBudgies, I like Kaz would like to welcome you to the forum. I believe that you and I will have many good discussions on the mutations and show standards. I have, in the last year decided to help the continuation of the Dark Eyed clear, a very bueatiful and miss understood bird. I am very glad that you are on this forum.

  18. There may be a Ring Register at the BCV. I'm the Ring Registrar for South Queensland. I have every code for all the breeders in south queensalnd. BCV might be the same.

I mark every egg. I use a pencil and mark both sides. This way I only touch the egg when I mark it. It has 6 days to colour up (8 - 10 if the first one) before it is thrown out. I mark a nest card the day it was laid and if it was fertile or not. This way I can check at a glance if the pairing is working out. It is easy to work out then when they should hatch.
  20. Many Many Leasons are learnt here .

Liv the birds look great.. I think they will really get you going with a bang.. I usually work on the principle that you sell 8 birds to buy one. So if you sell at $10 a bird you buy at $80. If you can sell 8 birds at $20 you buy at $160.... and so forth.
  22. Don't worry about the BCV just CL3-004-06 would be the code.
  23. it is on the vetfarm website, which looks like you can purchase it as it has a price. What is the product you use during quarantine? Vetafarm is only for ove seas buyers. It can not be bought here in Australia unless by a Vet. Most vets perscribe Fungalin. I don't use any mediation during Quarrentine. Why give medication for something that isn't proven. If you suspect something, take the bird to the vet and get a proper diagnosis.
  24. Megabac - s is onbly avalible from a vet under derection. It can;t be bought over the counter. You would only use it to treat MEGA or AGY Desease.
