BdgieBird. I answered in the other topic. But it is the same as most show breed animals. The top breaders really look after there birds. They do have a good life. Image if you where a top breed that asks or gets around $2,500.00aud for a bird, arn't you going to treat that birds and it's parents well. Yes there are some breeders that will try to do it on the cheap. Thats happens. A discussion we had last year. The show budgies in Australia do not quiet get that big. My largest bird in now Ash at 74 grams. My birds are on a special diet of Canary seed and fruit and vegetables. They are also on a high protien diet. Crumble Diet. They are also on a program Water suppliment. Week 1 Coccivet or Sulpha D Week 2 Vitamin Supplement Week 3 Probotic Week 4 Calcivet Oh to give a good idea of what the top breeders do to look after their birds. Look at this topic. I have adopted this as a basis of how I treat my birds.
  6. I'll stick to the book and to my Bird traker Program.
  7. Guys I think you mean Pet budgies and Show Budgies. All budgies are australian. You can not breed this http://www.flexi.net.au/~dwellsadsl/Images/Chirpy2.jpg In to this http://www.flexi.net.au/~dwellsadsl/Images/ash.jpg Over night. This will take decades. You would be best to start with this http://www.flexi.net.au/~dwellsadsl/Images/Bluey.jpg and work up to this http://www.flexi.net.au/~dwellsadsl/birds/...%20-4%20126.jpg Professional Breeders buy in out crosses. Budgies that have traits that they want in their birds. Note: These are all my birds.
  8. Gess I wonder why I don't like Cats Budgiebird I am real sorry for your loss. I hve the same problems here. We sleep with a window next to the breeding cages open. I haven't lost any Birds or had any injuries but I don't want to take chances.
  9. I am going to say girl because it could be the "Flash" but I think the i see her nassel rings....
  10. Thats great. I look forward to seeing you there. You have picked a good night as we are discussing colour and varieties.
  11. I believe that one of the members is going to take notes and forward them to me so that I can put them up on the Web site.

DF Spangle No Spots Body Colour - Full intensity Markings - Absent Eyes - Black Cheek Patches - Silvery White Tail Quill - Neutral Tail - Approaching Full Body Colour Primaries - Approaching Full Body Colour Comments: Includes Yellowfaced colours Buttercup & White.
  13. I love genitics... one day I hope to understand it..
  14. I think a DF Spangle is white with Black Eyes. I would go for a Black eye clear or a Dominant pied. His cheek patches are white. Does he have a white spot on the back of his head?

Be careful of the clicking sound. Happy contented Budgies will sit and re hull any unhulled seed in their crops. That shouldn't be mistaken for a respritory problem.

Well concidering they live in Eucalyptus trees in the wild I though that was strange saying it was toxic.... Eucalyptus leaves and nuts are toxic in dried flower arranging. I lost one of my birds from that. They treat the folage with something special to make it last and it is what is toxic.
  19. Phoebe...wells said. I totally agree with what you have said and how you have said it.. Chirpy had a link to a site that all should look at. It is about battered birds... It is so sad. I'll try to find the link. :dbb1:

I would question the first list it has Eucalyptus as a hazardous plant... We know that is wrong.

Thats great Hommer. If you can I would try to buy in an out cross. One of a higher quality. To help lift your birds. That is what I am doing at the moment. Out crosses can cost as little as $9.00 or as much as $5000.00. If you find a show in the area there will probibly be some birds on sale. The last show I went to had birds for sale from $9.00 to $50.00 and all were better than my birds.
  22. ... Great shots Karen.. Whats the age difference? :hap:

I love the colour Hommer... You have some great birds. How many are you breeding at the moment?

No they wont be stressed out. Budgies don't bond for life. It you have two birds that have bonded and you want to break the bond. Separate them for about 7 days and give them some one new and they break the old bond and make a new bond. If this didn't happen, Breeders couldn't breed with different pairs. They would always have the same pairs togeather.
