We're Building An Aviary In The North
Now I haven't updated for a while, but here are some photos: 19.06 2009, building-day 5 11:04 11:59 12:39 12:48 20.06 2009, day 6 As always I've got a lot of assistance in charge, this time it was my father and my brother-in-law. Lucky me that don't have to build this thing all by myself, I call myself leader, but it means that I say yes or no and then the work is done all by itself The weather was better than the last month of rain! More boards The first net is up! We have lifted the whole thing up so we could put the net under it and prevent that animals can get into the aviary. We are still putting up net moore net All the walls are done! We are doing the roof My brave builders are still going strong though the football started on the TV. DONE! We will build a "lock" (?) next time

Giant Chook Egg
Wow what an egg! We have never got huge eggs, but once we got a very very tiny egg from our hens. It weight just 3 gram! Here are some photos from when I showed the egg for Petronella, Avril and Winchester.

Dezdemona's Birds
All your threads with sweet birds inspired me and now I'll try to start a thread with photos of my own budgies. Cos I like my birds and I like to photograph. So I've like a million photos of them by now. Yesterday I forced them to bath, and after a while they stopped to pretend that they hated it and realized that they liked it. Very typical them. They are the worst kind of attention wh*res I know, they just have to be all over everyone so they won't miss anything of interest, or even worse, miss food. Here is Petronella on my shoulder, controlling what I'm doing with the computer. Winchester is handsome in reality, but he always does ugly faces when he sees a camera. Here is an unusual exception when he doesn't look like a weirdo. Fjådor is going through his first moulting, not that handsome. He looks like a (sweet) traffic victim. Petronella moved in here when she was 1 ½ year old, she was a breeding budgie who had lived in a aviary and never really been in touch with humans. But she is very cool and my other birds taught her how to handle humans. The other three moved here when they were around 6-9 weeks old. (from the same breeder who gave me Petronella) Winchester and Fjådor is tasting at bit of a millet a friend of mine growth. I'll try to do it myself i think. I'm finding it pretty cool to serve home-made millets. Avril makes sure that her toes are clean Fjådor is now around 4 month old and he don't let the other boss him around (but they tries every day) No one dare to mess with Avril and Petronella. Which they find a bit boring though they like to drive everyone crazy. A couple of days ago they got some new twigs. They liked it very much, most of all they like to push each other of the branches. It is almost impossible to take a photo where all of them are in, but sometimes it happens! Winchester, Petronella, Fjådor and Avril. Sorry for the photo boom, I'll try to control my photo-uploading in the future.

Tweetaville Community
No I don't mean the blinking things, I mean a tiny yellow area around most of the birds eyes. It is not feathers but it is something else. Here is a photo where you can see it better. I don't know exactely what it is but as far as i know it isn't dangerous or something.

Unusual Budgie?
I hope that it won't be a "cool thing" to have feather dusters. Like you say, it is a disease that is very hard for the birds even though it may look "sweet" och "fun" to people without knowledges. Yuck, poor birds. I hate when people breed birds without thinking about their best.

Single Female Budgie
Maisie's advices sounds great to me. I think you should get another bird for your budgie, it'll make her happier. And maybe even tamer when they can learn of each other. I have 4 budgies and they are all lovely.

To Clip Or Not To Clip
I don’t recommend you to clip. I’m against it most of the time. As you say; they love to fly! It is good for them and it is fun. They get muscles and they have fun, it even gives them more self confidence to being able to fly. Why do you catch them? If you give them food just inside their cage they will fly inside when they gets hungry. It is no problem to make flying budgies tame, think about that clipped budgies are just as afraid as flying, except the fact that they can’t run away when they gets scared, they have to stay there and wait, imagine how scary that must be for them. I think it sounds nice that your budgies can fly now, I bet it makes them happy and I think you will prefer to see them flying around when you gets used to it. (sorry I didn't red the whole thread, so my post may sound stupid and maybe you have answered all my questions allready.)

We're Building An Aviary In The North
Thanks! I hope you can find someone who are good at building too, or maybe you should try to do something on your one, you may learn! Thank you and yeah something like that, I'll wait until it is warm enough even in the nights. The plan is that they shall live there for a month or so. Thanks, my birds are inside during the winter, but I've got a friend who have budgies who likes to go outside and play in the snow. Of course they can go inside to a warm house whenever they want to. But still; they like the snow. I think my birds can handle it pretty well, they use to live in a friends aviary for a couple of weeks in the summer, and it has never been any problems with that. I'll make sure they have everything they need in their house before they get access to the aviary. I hope it'll go well.
