  1. I know for sure that one lot are getting fed. The others were chirping very loudly and they are attracting attention of one particular budgie I noticed, but where they are situated I can't tell if they are being fed? I have only been home just about an hour. I will have to do something quick about this scaly face on the pictured hen I also noticed that she can't fly so have put her in a Hospital cage. There is another like her but not so bad. How do I treat a whole flock of 25 birds? Is it Ivermectin I have to get? I could look it up but am keeping one eye on the budgies too.
  2. Well I really have myself deep in it this time, by far the biggest rescue that I have undertaken. I drove down to see the man with the budgies. He insisted I pay today and either take them today or A.S.A.P. I told him I would take the ones that I knew weren't the chicks mums and dads but he said, either take them all today or all next time but regardless to pay today. I was thinking what would guarantee me that they would still be there in a week or so? I have a temporary aviary that I have my daughters chickens in so I thought it best to put them all in there. I caught all 25 budgies, plugged the holes in the hollow logs the babies are i with newspaper and drove home, an hours drive. I have just finished putting logs up and trying to make it as similar as I can to their previous aviary. Two hens have severe scaly face and even one appears to have it on her eyes??!! I hope so much that I dont have any casualties, wish me luck.
  3. Cant wait to see photo's. get em up before the three days is up! How long did it take you to go from Melb to Splat's? Did you do it in one day?
  4. So I was wondering would it be o.k. to collect and move the non~mating budgies this week? I was thinking of just leaving the chicks and parents and their logs and letting them go as long as possible? I have a seperate smaller aviary I can put these in but the parents aviary is still being built as I want to try and make it identical. Your comments and opinions are always very valuable to me and a great help so thanks in advance if I dont have a chanc to reply tomorrow!
  5. These birds are just breeding and laying constantly so chances are they will have started again! I am thinking I will buy them tomorrow and get them healthy and stop them inbreeding anymore and then sell them off as pets myself to make the $200 back that I spend on them? As I am really only interested in show birds and their breeding but I'll rescue anything with a heartbeat! Also I'll do my darndest to keep the bubs alive. *~UPDATE~* 10.43 P.M 10TH JAN Called about budgies and have decided to buy them and do as I suggested above. I'll keep everyone posted on here as to the progress. Of course I'll do it over the course of the next two weeks to give the babies the best chance possible.
  6. They really know nothing about breeding birds, these birds in particular are well and truly inbred by now also. They are pet types not show types. Their house has been on the market for 8 months so they knew they were moving back then and have only just decided to get rid of them with all the other "garden ornaments"! I still dont know what to do, I don't want to give them the satisfaction of getting $200 for killing all the little chicks they have bred!
  7. Wonderful, I am looking now, I'll let you know how I go. Thanks,Trish.
  8. I would like to make a seed cleaner to recycle my seed as I seem to have a lot of waste. Does anyone have plans, idead or tips for one? Cheers, Trish.
  9. Just a photo update: Mum and dad (please excuse the corn and carrott faces!) and mummy keeping a very close eye on her nest!: Chick 1: Chick 2: Chick 3:

Wonderful !! As you have an overhanging roofline...rig up a hook above the door area and get one of those mozzie nets on a hoop ( the kind they hang over beds ) ...you can hook it up over the door and use it to step through so you creat a safety door effect as you go in and out. Dave (my husband) is going to build ma a new doorway are to prevent escapees! Also maybe some trellis and perspex as we get hawks and eagles here.
  11. Just spoke with the woman's husband, an absolute arrogant thing. He insists that they are selling for $200 firm and no negotiation will be entered into. Does not care in the slightest that babies could die in the process and says that you just move them all in a cage. He basically said do I want them for $200 or not if not then that is that, they only care about the money in other words. He says that that is a bargain because they sell for $25.00 in the shops. I told him I would call back...grrrrr...

It is in a lovely shaded area nearly all day long, so it is in a great position for our hot summers. We have to get a concrete delivery on Monday for the floor and hubby is going to put a slope in it and a half cut plumbing pipe to drain out water when I clean the aviary. Will post more progress shots as they happen!

The new aviary...took a while but we are getting there!
  14. The woman still hasn't called so it doesnt look good, maybe I should just offer her the $200? I only have one breeding pair (the T.C.B. and Albino with 3 chicks). There are four families in the aviary in question so I can't foster this many out. The method you mentioned sounds great and the best chance of their survival, another minus is that I live 1 hours drive away from the budgies. My husband has a van so we would be able to move them in that. Sailorwolf~I don't know anyone else that I can do the move with. And I do have extra breeder cabinets but would the shock of going to full aviary to cabinet be too much? Thanks so much everyone for the replies, might go give the woman another call and see what is going on?
  15. I am able to take the four hollow logs and put them into an already set up aviary. Maybe they would be o.k. I still haven't heard from the woman.
  16. Very true, these type of posts can sometimes get upsetting and I have chosen to leave out a few other details but I just mainly wanted to find out what I could do to help them survive the move. I don't really want them as such because I need more budgies but more of for their sake.
  17. Any more hints or tips? And is 2 weeks too short a time frame?
  18. Hi there, I responded to an ad in my local paper for 25+ budgies for $200 as the lady is moving house. I went to visit and was told she started off with 6 budgies and the flock "grew" from there. They also had a frost last year and lost a few and had already given some away to family but were selling the rest as a "family". There were 4 hollow logs in the aviary with chicks in various stages of development but all have to be out of the aviary by 2 weeks time! I mentioned that most babies wouldn't make the move and she said she realized that. I have offered her $125 but she is still waiting for other offers before accepting mine, I have a large empty aviary seperate from all my other birds that I can house them in. Two of her budgies have scaly face and one has a cut cere and another has a severely long beak. If she answers and says I can take them, I wanted suggestions on the best way to offer all chicks the best chance of survival. All suggestions welcome. I hope she says I can have them and not someone else as I hate the thought of all those little wasted lives! Trish.
  19. Unfortunately this little one passed away today, it had not grown much in the last few days. The others are looking strong and fit and mum and dad are doing a great job.
  20. Looks wonderful, I was wondering how you get into the cages to put food in and out etc, as I can't see any doors? I'll have the cute looking doggy on the couch too thanks very much!! Do you use normal rope for your rope perches, they seem expensive to buy the real thing. Looks great, well done! I bet you could just sit there with a cuppa all day on the sofa and watch them now.
  21. Grat Kaz, thanks, a good read at this time in my first breeding.
  22. My daughter was sad that the last egg did not get to hatch, thus the coffin. She had been watching and waiting... I have only ever seen baby budgie photo's on here so I am not sure at all about the splayed legs, have P.M.'d Kaz as I think she has the expertise to help. Hopefully nothing like you say.
  23. Sorry to hear it M.B. I didnt know that such a thing was possible?
  24. What great photo's of adorable, beautiful, kissable and huggable babies! I wish I could have a cuddle! :glare: The mum looks healthy too, give yourself a big pat on the back.
  25. I forgot to mention, this breeding has been very much a family affair and my eldest daughter has made a littel coffin and plans to float it down the river behind our house tomorrow. Tonight she has surrounded it with roase petals and it is "sleeping" beside her bed :angel1: No its my stupid blurry camera, it is a blurred toe in the way that is making it appear like that.
