Seed? Yes Or No?
I have never tried pellets myself. But there are many members on here that do and can advise you more. Mine get seed, fresh veggies, grasses and whole boiled egg mashed up. I have heard that if you do want your budgie to have pellets not to do it all at once, that they need to be weaned off seeds and weaned onto pellets. Has your budgie tried silverbeet? It is so easy to grow, even in a pot and can given to them wet, they love to eat it and even bathe in it!

Thanks! Do you know of any avian vets around our area who can trim beaks? Where do you get all your budgie supplies? I am only 45 mins away from you, just near Casterton.

Our New Baby
I was wondering, it looks like your cage one of those round ones that you see canaries in? If so his foot can get stuck in the top of the cage where the bars taper together. Cage types can be found here: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=17858 the first one is the one that you have? I don't mean to come on here and offend you but it would be horrible for you if the little one got hurt. He is very beautiful! xoxo

Introduction
Hello and welcome! That second last one seems to be a female. What makes you think that she is unhealthy (do I have the right one?), from the second photo of it looks like it has a rounded area near its bottom, is this right? The very last one appears to be a healthy boy.

Thanks MB, I'll keep it in mind, I am hoping to find someone closer than Melbourne though, fingers crossed! I also would not like these babies to spread any nasties to your birds.

I have removed all juveniles into a temporary aviary so they are now on their own. I am now looking at who are the parents of the current two sets of babies so I can seperate all the other budgies in there from them and just leave the two sets of partnts and babies in this aviary. I will seperate hens from cocks and put in seperate cages as they all look rather amarous and I do not want them to breed anymore at all. It will also be easier this way to treat them using the quarantine guidelines in the F.A.Q. section of the forum.

I am worried about the chicks as their logs are so high off the ground, will they fall out? I need to discourage the breeding in there how do I do this? Should I be removing some of the non mating birds now? VEGGIES...Yummy! Mum and dad of one set of chicks:

I just gave them silverbeet and fresh corn on the cob, I don't think that they know what to do with them! I am also pleased to report that both sets of babies are being fed!!!!!!

What Could I Use This For?
Maybe you could have four to six in there and colony breed? Also it looks a nice size for a cockatiel pair?

Hello
Welcome Tamara and what gorgeous pictures! My advice is to give them lots of fresh veggies like grated carrott and silverbeet and eggs that have been boiled for 20 minutes and allowed to cool and mashed whole for calcium. It seems there are not enough avian vets around (vets that specialize in birds) this might be a great job for you when you are older? Welcome again, Trish.

Ah well, I just did what I could I'm sure there's a few ways I could have dealt with it but I just wanted to get in there and get them and start looking after them. The man was very arrogant, rude and unreasonable and he could easily have told me to nick off and that would get me no where and I HATE conflict! (I also had my kids with me!). Make love not war! He's the one that has to look in the mirror everyday and live with hiself for being a dingbat after all (putting it mildly)! On a positive note, I can't wait to give them veggies and see what they do, as they have only ever had a seed diet! I have now removed the worst two hens to treat A.S.A.P. for what its worth, as they need their beaks trimmed and then I will treat them and the whole flock with Ivermectin, a forum member has kindly helped me out in getting some. There are some beautiful grey and blue budgies in the mix, a little scrawny at present but I'll soon feed them up! Maybe I wont sell them off after all!

Just got your post Kaz, I will ring around for Ivermectin tomorrow. Do I put a drop on the necks of the whole flock? In regard to beak trimming, I will have to try to find an Avian vet in either Adelaide or Melbourne 6-7 hours drive either way. I might ask my budgie club if they know of anyone and also about the Ivermectin.
