25+ Budgies Advertised In Local Paper.
So I got up the courage with hubby's help and trimmed the beaks on the two worst birds. Please note the cage behind is just a temp. hospital cage and was only used for a few days. Now that the rest of my budgies are in the aviary I have free'd up a much bigger one for them. This is the worst of the two, she had an overshot bottom beak and very distorted top one I have attempted to make it as normal as possible but did not want to cut too much at once. I will reasses in a couple of days after I have watched to see if she can eat o.k. The scaly face on the other bird was much worse and I have already seen improvement on her. Before: After:

My New Aviary!
Thanks, no hexagon Aviary is yet to be completed as is the safety door area (Dave didn't bank on having to make a safety door, so it took longer). Also hex aviary needs rewiring as we had a cockatoo in it and he chewed the wire and escaped much to my distress, he never returned! I hope they are o.k. the pet types have never flown properly (outside of a cage) since I got them about two months ago. They look so tiny and the other bigger birds look like chooks beside them!

My New Aviary!
Hello! It has been a busy day today with the making of tiered perches and building a dummy doorway area to prevent escapees! When we concreted we sloped the slab and put a channel to divert water for when I am cleaning the aviary and it takes it through a drain hole and pipe outside. Pics.... Drain: Tiered perches: Building the dummy doorway: We are also incorporating a hexagonal aviary onto the side of this aviary as a juvenile flight. Here is the almost finished product: Rear view of the entrance to the aviaries: All of the budgies! (Not the 26 rescue ones however they are being treated in quarantine) Pet types and show breeders, I hope they get along o.k.:

Pottery Feeder..pictured.
Just potting mix or outside dirt? Does it have to be cleaned somehow (I mean from wildbird germs). It's an awesome idea, I'll start it today, I already have some sprouted seeds so I do it with them!

Bummer Kaz... I didn't think of that!

I saw this in our local Opportunity shop today and wasn't sure what it is supposed to be used for but my idea was a bird feeder for my aviary? It only cost me $2.50 so I'll use it for something else if need be. It is pottery and quite strong. Can anyone please tell me if it would be o.k? Cheers, Trish.

Bluegums
A bluegum tree in our garden has taken over and is drooping everywhere, yesterday in the hot weather a branch came down on the kids cubby (was in the process of being built so not a tradgedy). My new aviary needs perches and I want to know if this is o.k? Here are some pics:

I had no idea that I could do it, is their beak just like a fingernail, it doesn't hurt them?

Just received the Ivermectin that was kindly sent to me. I have treated the two worst females with the help of my 10 year old daughter as I have to hold them and part the feathers to reveal the skin to paint it on. I feel so sorry for the worst one she doesn't even have and toenails for some reason? Her eye is almost shut it is so infested with scalyface. As I said earlier that seem to only able to eat Millett, once I see a little improvement in the scaly face I will get their beaks trimmed although I think I have to bring them to Melbourne. Before shots: This first one being a bit fuzzy but shows that the poor girl has no toenails. The second hen has it worse above her beak, see below:

I would like that too MB, its a 6.5 hour drive which is better in the cooler weather and when I have less on. As well my hubby's family are down that way and I can stay the night with them. Thanks so much for being so thoughtfull and for the invite.
