  4. hello reading this some great advice i myself only sell hand tame birds from request other birds i sell young i charge same price for hand tame as i do not hand tame 20.00 this recently just went up from 10 or 15 as seed meds and veg all take toll on my budget i do however sell some birds less or more depending on cercumstance of bird for sale eg rairaty of variety color nothing over 30 though i did try selling birds for 10 each then charging 10 for if they were split making some birds 10 some 20 and some 30 regardless of colour and variarty just depending on how many splits but i felt like i was ripping people off so now all birds 20 bar the odd specialty vet account is great idea to have with some funding set aside for that id start with around 500.00 in that before anything else was even thought about i just resently got stuck a very cheep vet bill for prociders done in dec 09 250.00 and that was with vet halving meds till following week vets cant aford to let people pay them off so...some do but not often good luck with it all
  5. can i ask if the petshop said they needed to be 8 to 10 witch is common request to make sure birds are cracking seed byselfs how old were the babys ???

  8. yeah id say that somethings up their lib as i get maybe only one two to eggs not hatch out of up to 7 to 9 eggs and usually if chicks die its due to me and my husbandry of them eg ive dropped a few eggs with chicks few days two hatch and stuff like that its called impatiance if a eggs late i tend to put to my ear to see if i can hear baby some times i hear put it back and if no change in 24 hours i will listen again if no sound and egg darkened i will help it sometimes im right and save a chicks life other times im wrong or i drop egg and thats not good i prommised myself yesterday that for now on i dont listen to any eggs if their late and i see black spot quiet large i will open but if not i dont tough ever again apart from that besides the odd chick not being fed i need to move all eggs bar one mabe two hatch and live if i have weak chick hatch i know somethings wrong and act straight away to figure out what but only had happen once
  9. thank you i couldnt of gotten a better awnser you explained exactly how you did it as well as rezults food for thought as i myself culled right back to only a few number of birds and wasnt sure where to go from here i may look into this with some assistance though i would never try this on my own being all top birds your rezults should be good quality over quantity i always say
  10. did you say ALBINOS :D im cut
  11. Wouldn't this be breaking quaratine... I'd never want to expose my healthy birds to anything a pet shop may have hanging around them and their birds. I would have no intentions of taking my birds further than near their front door and counter and certainly not down and next to any petshop birds. I think that would be safer. This when you could use a small number of birds (2-3max) as birds that are ONLY used for this reason... But cared for just as good as our show birds are... This may help reduce the risk of bring anything home with us... Some good tips GenericBlue and we can always hope they do know what their doing but it doesn't and hasn't stop sick birds being showed... Maybe all it takes is someone to say thing and offer a helping hand... Many hands make light work... And how could we hate you GB... We can do rip off tabs for a customer poster, not a problem... I do have a slicer that makes the dots in the paper making it easier to rip off... And how could we hate you GB.. well im not easy to love and hates easier :D than acceptance of differences so ...quiet easily
  12. any updates here clearwing how did it all go ive always wondered about running a cock between hens but dont think im near ready to do this how was your success

I think that would be safer. wouldnt just suggesting some reliable breeders with culls be as good over take the back yard dodgie money grabbers as get in healthy bird is easyer than treating birds and making healthy then just teaching them healthy feeding and watering wuld be needed their has to be some good petand show breeders with enough culls for pet shop to ring every now and again and ask for some birds
  14. I believe it to be a myth, as I have seen it many times and none of those birds were from clearwing breeding or genetics. yeah i tend to be with you their kaz but i heard it so ... just putting it out their
  15. being me that wouldnt be a could its a would macka
  16. i wasnt saying she was rec pied as i honestly cant remember what type off pieds the peronts were but im just stating opaline rec pieds dont always have the v or the coloured wing feathers if they do their really light and go un noticed heres a opaline dom pied not df just dom see how hes not got the opalineing he was split rec pied giving the aperance of being df dom he was opaline and split cin okay now here is a opaline goldenface sky rec pied you wouldnt beable to tell with out the fact that i breed him and his mum was opaline as was dad if you note his neck you may just beable to see the barring brake up slightly and the very very pale colour thats it though and when older you cant tell as being single factor goldenface it just takes over and the opaline is hidden
  17. well you could try but remember both birds need to be in condition not just one this is where many go wrong a cock and hen should both be actively showing signs of being in condition a cere does not always make them both ready its all the signs together cocks knocking on perch and catting everything up the aviary included eyes go pinned and more flying around everywhere hens chew and do the same chatting up with the eyes but not always as noticeable the hens also tend to flap their wings in tiny what looks like little spasms or like their going to fly but dont mabe watch to see if her cock the one you want to breed her to is also in the mating mood
  18. well i say opaline as i swear i could see tiny bit of the violet or mauve what ever colour she is on wing markings doesnt have a opaline v in all pieds some you cant even tell rec pied opalines are distinguished sometimes only as the barrings are broken across the head i still say opaline their for a hen and if you had more chicks from this pair you wouldget all yellow face unless a df yf was in nest as both peronts are yellowface you did say they were yf didnt you of what type it does not really mater 1,2 or goldenface as two yellow face birds produce all yf chicks bar the df yellowfaces you get in nest which are yelloface just not vishually does this make sence
  19. dont know how true it is but i read somewhere that chicks with barring going along toward chest could be carrying clearwing genetics anybody else hard this or is it just another myth
  20. You have no idea how many results are possible without knowing the full parentage. The hen split for blue raises the question is she a Type I or Type II Dark Green/Blue. Do you know her parents? The cock, same question is he Type I or Type II Dark Green/Blue. We know the father is Violet but what was the mother? The Blue and Dark Factors are linked and this change the results. I did a quick calculation based on this pairing - Dominant Pied Opaline Dark Green/Blue Type II cock x Dark Green/Blue Type I hen. I am only guess on the Blue Type I and II based on the info supplied and what breeders generally have in their aviaries. There are 40 possiblities. If I then factor in the Violet and/or the possible split Ino and Cinnamon the possibilities rise again. lol i just lookd in my trusty book could you tell with the 33 and third bit lol i forgot normal cin hens lol but rips right i just gave basic breeding rezults of pairing if chicks were all violet id say he was a violet green then but you really wont know till your looking at him so i can not comment for sure
  21. thats what i ment thanks dean time and crossing back to the peront of opozed sex isnt that how its done i dont know i have no clue
  22. well if he looks olive and has deep purple patches hes most probbly a violet dark green but send picture i will tell you my opinion
  23. wouldnt it smell like singed hair and could you do whole aviry rather than vac??? my sons are always jokeing about getting a blow tortch for my aviry mabe i can tell them go on then and save myself some money as they will buy for joke lol and then i can use it
  24. it would really depend if he got the fathers ino and cinnamon gene and the violet factor lets do both dark green hen/blue x opaline darkgreen/blue cock opaline hens 33 and one third light green, dark green and olive 33 and one third skyblue, cobalt, mauve cocks split opaline in all these colours 50 percent dom pied then say hes split/cin/inoand holding violet you get all the abouve but opaline cinnamon hens and cocks will be 25 percent chance of being split cin and ino you will get violets on top of your other colours ,skyviolets mauve violets you could get ino hens which would be cinnamon opalines and pos dom pied think thats it anyone else
  25. okay your all going to hate me but for starters most pet shop owners do know what their buying or do breed the birds themselfs so i dont think they will be to open to people trying to tell them what they should be looking for in birds they buy i think a better thing would be to express to them that quarantine is a must and all birds coming in should be given preventative treatment for either turbosole or ronni vet for canker , ivomectomed for scale and worms and baycox for coccidia and that if when you i back in a month and find the same conditions as you have now with no change and no active quarinteen room for not only budgies but all birds then they will be reported to the local counsel for bad animal management this is way more effective but going on your idea i think suggesting housing the cocks and hens separate and chicks is good idea as you so often see hens laying off perch and hens to young usually i think the best idea is to just leave the bbc web sights address with rip of tabs as kaz stated and then maybe do a threat on pet shop percussing what to look for what not to touch this way someone can do an informative post about all things you see in pet shops such as undershot beaks and in turned feet flightless birds FM BIRDS scaly face poo bum fluffiness extra then what to look for age of bird feet are a dead give away as are Ceres when it comes to age and around the eye , vicariousness of the birds moments bright color including feet and cere color (health related ) feather condition so on but at the same time breeders should to be incoraged not to sell their **** or sick and injerd birds to pet shops it goes two ways good luck guys i do hope you make a difference only good can come from trying
