  1. okay the sky blue cock / rec pied /op 06 bird and his son so next step remember this pied....???? sky violet Opaline cinnamon df dom hen well i paired him the next year in o7 late he was only 6 months then (remembering i was unaware of the age you should breed birds i was brought up it was 6 to 9 months it was not until i joined here in 2008 i was informed this was incorrect and all the reasons why } which are many .... bone structure damage to hen do to not enough calcium as egg sucks body of this when one being formed ... egg binding so on .. to young to feed sufficiently yarda yarda yard its all her on this sight getting back to it from this pairing i produced some lovely chicks in 2008 (when i learn t he had been breed to early as was his hen whom was only around 9 months , i however did take advice from here and breed my birds now at a year old ) ill get pics of chicks latter for today im finished got to go do the mother thing and my birds before night fall :} adios amigos till next update of how i build my flock (i want the grinning face back }
  2. now i realize i have made a mistake already i only realized as when i was revising my thoughts i realized i could not of got the results i got from this next pairing unless the hen was an Opaline but i must admit that i always had trouble recognizing Opaline in birds still do at times :} so just thought id mention it so you all can see why all of a sudden my normal hen turned Opaline and managed to have a Opaline cock in the clutch (you will see a few blunders as my mind retraces things after all this is all just from memorial recall something than i had damaged in my accident and im hopping doing this will also help kick start } so next pairing........... So my second pairing was the sky blue/ rec pied / opaline club rung cock bird and the mauve Opaline hen also club rung my aim was to breed a few bigger show stock size birds so i could add them to my pet size birds and intergrade their looks and try and achieve a bigger colourful pet bird that looked as fancy as the show birds but in a mini me :} I don’t have a picture of the mauve hen but she just to me at time looked grey and wasn’t until i breed her that i realized she was mauve I got from this clutch only two chicks a Grey normal cock bird And a Opaline mauve grey just like mum Which i kept he was the start i wanted He had the look i liked and length nice big spots as well pics to come of him :} and dad
  3. not to rule out draft and many other things but dave is right i notice your in a club maybe get a member to come over and take a look my mentor always says to me where theirs live stock theirs dead stock as im always stressing
  4. lol he must like you splat lol i had to buy the book mm lucky i was given it by member of my club
  5. i totally agree with dave on this try mite treatment
  6. lol oh dave i love it how i never understand what any of the big words u use mean :} i just though id start a from the beginning to where i am now so it may help other young breeders or older ones if i start from beginning i can also remember stuff i have lost from just my own recall as i find when i write or talk about my life and things ive done i remember things that to just try and recall i could not do im very happy for any questions so on this is about starting a stud be it pet or show im starting where i started and will work my way through to where i am no this also will keep me interested in it as i do tend to get here with good intentions yet become bored myself with my own work im easily bored also i will explain each result in the pairings which will help others better understand some their pairing choices with the pets as its all about colour and variety with bets and i will be sharing my choices with my snowbirds why i paired them when i get to them thanks for reading oh splat you crack me up this is not self confession its meant to just give a glimpse into my love of birds and the things that people may not know or see behind the doors im hoping to share all i can filter through my small mind :} and im going to do best to take lots of pics when i get to the snowbirds (i think your world would have a good read about it ) one thing i did leave out is i stopped breeding at 17 and whent on to have children and alot of other things happend in my life then when i found my feet again then in 2001 i had my big accident that left me unable to be employed or able to do many things took few years from then to 2003 where i tried to re start in 2003 but due to unforeseen circumstances was unable to and had to give up my birds id gotten and aviary breeding cabinets the lot it wasn't till 2006 that my life seemed some what more stable and i really needed some thing to help me ground and gain rutine breeding budgies gives me both these things :} infact im lost with out it

  8. As most of you know i came here to this sight a breeder of pet size budgies i tried to fit into them as many colours and combination's possible but for thoughs of you that do not know me let me introduce myself: my name is Leeia fox AKA genericblue or as my friends call me Gb i am at the moment in time 38 years old a mother of 3 apart from breed budgies i paint /draw/write/sloth about my home im not one that needs much in my world to keep happy yet i am one whom needs to have serenity in my world to function to my best ability their for i chose to have a life of solitude --- bar a few breeders whom pop in and out to visit (these i class as my friends ) i am defiantly not everybody's cup of tea and well it goes both ways in most cases altogether i would say i am slightly different with a twist of madness that most don't understand or get so at times find myself standing alone wondering why i feel stupid for just being me and because of this i rarely go out that was when i decided to start to breed budgies again to give me something i loved to do and something other than the children to look after i always wanted to breed show birds but still loved the colours of the pet sized budgies so i decided to incorporate the two to see if i could breed a pet type budgie with some aspects of show quality yet maintain all the wonder of the colour and vibrancy the pet birds had so in 2006 i got my bag and money and headed down to my local pet store where i purchased 6 birds for $ 160.00 (if only then id known what i know know i would of saved heaps of money and had better quality birds than i had brought which is why i am sharing with you guys all this in the hope you can not follow my mistakes and obtain information of use to be able to become a breeder of show quality birds and maintain a healthy vibrant stud if you ever choose , and for you that do already hopefully anything i write /record can help you out if a simular problem a cures or just learn something you may not of known as i know im still learning every day ) the birds i had brought were a sky blue cock bird o6 club rung ( whom turned out to be split for Opaline and rec pied ) a mauve normal hen 07 club rung (no splits that i ever came across) a sky blue cinnamon rec pied hen pet sized but very big chest and great stance perfect pied marks of 25 percent wing coverage a golden-face cobalt turned out /rec pied / Opaline a pet bird cock and a mauve cinnamon spangle hen pet (got for colour ) last but not least a sky-violet df dominant pied cinnamon Opaline hen i already had two cock birds at home id gotten from my uncle a golden faced violet green rec pied opaline spangle and his brother a golden face sky blue /op rec pied normal so the start of my breeding began at first i had only two breeding units and a small 4 by 6 flight i brought a 2 meter by 90 x 90 indoor /out door aviary from the warehouse and put 2 birds in their of each sex and paired my others in the two units i had i started off with a mauve cinnamon spangle x my golden faced cobalt /op cock (at this time i did not know about his rec pied gene } from these birds i breed 7 chicks 3 mauve golden face Opaline chick 2 hens and a cock this told me that my hen although did not look it was in fact Opaline her self as other wize i would not of been able to achieve a Opaline cock bird as shown bellow The Opaline Breeding Expectations Pairings Expectations Opaline cock Opaline hen 100% Opaline Opaline cock Normal hen Normal/split Opaline cocks Opaline hens Normal/split Opaline cock Opaline hen Opaline cocks Normal/split Opaline cocks Opaline hens Normal hens Normal/split Opaline cock Normal hen Normal/split Opaline cocks Normal cocks Opaline hens Normal hens Normal cock Opaline hen Normal/split Opaline cocks Normal hens Normal cock Normal hen Normal cocks Normal hens i also got two sky blue Opaline golden faces on was spangle( a cock and hen ) and a spangle mauve hen and a violet cobalt ( visual violet )cock of these i sold all but a golden face sky Opaline hen and the mauve hen spangle i will continue with more latter as this will be a very long page if i do not break it up ill go search for some pics of my original birds i hope your all enjoying this yours gb
  9. well it looks clear flighted to me on one side lol and normal on other was the hen in flight before you paired for a while mating or was she with the fallow for a while in separate breeding unit as if you took them out of flight straight to unit and eggs were layed in ten day span it is not imposable for it to be someone else s chick but i do believe maybe you need to see if this hen produces another on in a second clutch even if you foster eggs as to tell you truth if was clear flighted the hen would not have such bad grizzled wings as that person above suggested dutch pieds do but you hen has no iris were they up to date pics of mum n dad ??? its a half pied so far
  10. real breeders ???? you just are not looking in the right places many breeders are happy to sell you pair or pairs in fact some wont sell unless you take them as a pair however with budgies pairing does not matter so much just time away from other sex and both being in breeding condition is all that's needed to bond a pair you wish to breed if your in Melbourne their are-many clubs in fact if you want to get everyone in the same place at once the adult shields is coming up in march at Preston all clubs come together with their best birds and then at end of day one is chosen to receive the shield of best adult budgie on the day its a great experiance for anyone to see the birds and quality they will need to achive if going to atempt to breed show birds i know when i went to my first one i was so disheartening as i was thinking omg i would never be able to get birds or breed birds with enough quality with my little allowance how ever i just started walking up to random people and asking excuse me and then a question (even if i knew the answer myself sometimes as all answers are different when comes to breeding budgies ) once chatting and discussing the bird or birds i would then if they gave a adequate and good conversation id introduce myself and request that maybe i could have their name and number for future questions and discussions possibly in future birds if i was in need of a certain feature they may have achieved or a variety they may have i found most are very obliging and more than happy to help out and most have culls for sale and or will be happy if your really interested to let you know when what your after comes along some even point you in the direction of someone else if they can not help themselfes so come along and have alook meet some people ill be their as will other members from here
  11. I would keep an eye on the parents - i think one of them might be plucking them. the oldest should have fluff starting to show all over its body but dont worry to much as most birds take the down its the feathers you need to watch out for you could try prevent further removal by getting a product called stop pick you can get it at pet stores works 85 percent of time works on new mums some birds are just built into it though and pluck regardless of what you try these hens are no use exept for first two weeks of raising young
  12. if you come to my house in stay nubbly i can guarantee you will not be cold i wont let heat get below 29 in my house im like a lizard i love the heat hate the cold and so long as you wear double everything like i do funny how in the summer i lose weight so quickly

  14. well why would we criticize your birds you are the one that needs to like them not us as they are your birds and if your worryed cause some of us have show birds that may just look a bit more showy well dont be if you look back at some of my threads you will see my birds that i had to start with we all got to start some where but if your in Melbourne can i ask what the *** are you doing spending over 300.00 dollors for birds next time drop me a pm with what your after and whos blood lines you prefer may be able to help you out their few us in Melbourne vic on here we all have to have culls like it or not :}
  15. blue ring is only either going to be a 7 year old or a 2010 bird and looking at your picture again i dont know why i didnt see it at first he is only breaking his cap he still has bar head so is a young bird most probably why so well behaved too you will have a friend for life their also if you can id check him for mites as most probably what caused-leg ring to swell could of gotten away if breeder was trying to look at his leg themselves as i cant see his full body but looks not a bad bird for a rec pied
  16. GenericBlue replied to Maddy's topic in Aviaries
    yes three cheers for maddy HIP HIP HIP hooray
  17. i want another picture of it i did think dutch pied but said clear flighted lol' when i was mentioning up top of thread but did look like a spangle with pied spot in first picture as i first said but with all the rec genes floating around whom knows picture would be cool to see it's progress

  20. im going to try to get to geelong nats but not this years i think ill wait save a bit money
  21. some breeders forget that cinnamon can pass on as a possible split from a split cock to normal hen breeding no chicks will be cinnamon but hens from that pair and cocks wont necessarily be split cinnamon but can be if the gene is passed which its not useully its 25 percent chance on other hand some breeders just forget whats from what and take a stab in dark or honestly think something when its not
  22. really good mate i was going to have that sort of thing but decided my flight not bigg enough so why i added a pop out but yes no more hard landings great :} and is so much easyer to clean as i did try for while only my floor sucked up moister into the sawdust in winter so i stopped scared of mould i was all good now but wont be redoing it well do looks great
  23. yay another something to read thanks for sharing look forward to a jam packed and exiting experience from you two eggs good luck :} ill be here
  24. not really i sell / tame quiet a lot of my show stock for companion ship they seem to make really good pets less rowdy and not so intent to fly around house as a pet sized pet bird also has advantage of ring so if lost can find again :} your doing really well with him im sure he would love to stay with you if you asked him lol as for tame all my flocks tame to point different breeders treat their birds different so depends on what stud he comes from could have been really loved i have lost a few that i wish did not get away :{ through my own stupidity
  25. all going well great :} love it
