just went outside to check on a chick thts mother has hatched out two more and decided to stop feeding oldest so i putt it in my pet type foster nest butt she just hatched a chik and refused it checked 2 hours later and was still not fed so putt it in another foster nest with other hen same ol same ol so i moved it to a nest were the hens eggs are due tomorrow morning first 1 in hope she would feed this was at 1:30 today just had tea went to check all the birds for the night looked in it was dead butt with all dead chiks i gave it a blow as u do and to my amazement it revived my rearing mix had become damp unaware to me so now am left with nothing to feed nd no mother to take under advice from a breeder i stuk it in my braa against my **** were its happily sitting alive prob now is wat to feed ??? all i have milk,3 different sugars,caster,raw,norm,vegimite,rasberry cordial, thts bout it its chirping nd needs food plz help !!! survo across road wat do i need to get by the way ill be matchstik feeding or can i do it with wats in my cubboard .

i hear you loud and cleqar that is why im starting with my lacewings and spangles and albinos im going to do the cinnamons from lacewings and albinos from lacewings it all blends quiet well i know what your going to say dont mix albino with lacewing but i dont plan to as such but will breed hens with the split grey cock bird i just got and norm/lacewing cocks i have studdyed what im going to do quiet long and still now am not rushing to put my birds in breeding cabinet i see where your comming from but i may not hit the show bench for a few years or more yet as although some my stock is nice i want to achive a small line of my own with out many out crosses comming in i know how to do this with out breeding closely so will give it a go its about the birds and the challange for me not so much the winning bird not yet any ways

unfortinantlly you did hear right you see i dont get much help and when i do well its usually rush ed and i just have to exept what comes just happened that the area we got the dirt from was not a good area i did very carefully go throgh all the dirt /clay more clay but oviously not good enough i have only found the one bit but.... my bad managment it is a lessen to all beginners to set your aviry up fully befoe entering your birds im trying to get one concreate paver at a time the dirt was layed as so i could just place them in as i got them i did cover it with saw dust to suck up any posable mosture i noted this mornig that i have some large dop jumpping on my blinds at night trying to get the birds its not every night but this morning i saw it had happened again i did think it was my dog although weird as she comes into aviry at times with me in the summer but my dogs were in the back room last night we have foxes around thats why i got stanasteel wire messing for floor keep out mice and foxes exct from digging in under aviry bird is eatting but no change in poo i am treating her with salfa s i think i will take her to vet today she is eatting but i want to know what is causing this all birds fine no one else is unwell all happy and very active so.....will tell you out come

Thats why I brought up coccidiosis as that is what happens with it, but you say the aviary is dry so it cant be that. If the whole flock went down sick...then and only then would I treat the flock. But you dont have the whole flock sick.....so treat as you find. Only treat the sick one or ones. yes dry i am just treating bird for bird and two were just in case only two defanent sickys both tiny canery budgies first one died like with in two hours of finding her not well this one seems heaps more active just the poo the other one wouldnt even move the two i treated and one of the birds partner in case they healthy again so but keeping out for a full quarinteen thanks kaz as i was going to just treat all even though did not feel it was right action i will just do the waiting game will keep you posted

hay darl why dont you seperate the cubard bit and make the top half a bed box by drilling a round saw drill whole cleaning would be good and so would acsses to your babys thats a great rat cage lots of potentiall some them rat tubes you can buy could easyly be intwined with that making tunnels every way they could have a blast

:hmm: well what can i say she was fine yesterday fine all day today then now half hour she started fluffing then i saw her walking around nibbling ground (not food) she gagged 3 times so i picked her up to check her over and she was rib bone skinny not good at all so i brought her in straight away then she pooed black watery poo but the white bit still white and not watery she is eatting moving looks all good but bit fluffed but the poo says and the skinnyness says sick sick sick bad sick what could it be i need to find out and quick incase she is very ill and it could affect whole flock as i can treat straight away if need be but prepher not i gave vinniger cider 3 days in row and i added some lemmon squeezed yesterday into their warter did i do this or is it really bad two birds were gagging last week i removed straight away and treated with sulfa s they now all good and didnt gagg more than the once that i saw i kept them in my view but it started with a little canary size bird i was told not to worry it was probbly a chill she didnt have same poo nor did others they all better but still not back in flock any ideas would be so apreshiated as i dont want to have my birds get something if she dies im getting her aurtopsy will cost me 190 but worth it for others health vets are closed but he told me last week just take the sick ones out and treat then keep away for two weeks but i dont see how that can work should i treat them all or not if so what with and when do i give the probotics i still dont get this process birds only been unwell with yeast infection in crop once that was in jan 09 i treated them all and as i was moving the were out of aviry for some time in holding cages where they were monitored all through out the day on and off i kleaned aviry before putting it up could they have it back or they all due ivomectom (this week ) could this be caused from worms thanks the bird in question has treatment straight up but do i treat the flock or wait

i know none of you will agree but i think you will find the smaller the box not the cage the more secure the hen feels and is more likely to raise a larger clutch the problem with that is that the box is then to small for the hen to raise all chicks sucecfully due to suffercation and growing restrictions ect.. the way to over come this is to have the smaller box on when the hen is sitting and when the eggs hatch place the chicks into the larger box when all chicks are hatching around the second or third chick is the best time as the hen wont care about the housing change as she will be to busy protecting her bubs

jen your best bet is to go to your vet and get him to make the ivomecton drop on the back of the neck stuff cause the other one i have been told by my vet is only a wormer any way i dont know anything about one you put in their beck but the one the vet makes up works very well it cost me 20 to get enough to treat all my birds their chicks and my 4 teals their chicks my cocky, conour ,cannary and new commers for a year and thats only cause it goes off after a year usually i have some left i treat my birds every 3 months but on the 4 month if that makes sence and keep recorlds of who got it when so they are continully covered i asked for enough to cover 85 birds

i know just your not joking its my own stuiped fault i lost that bird bad manigment i was distracted when doing the feeding rounds by my daughter normally i make sure they leave me alone while i do my rounds but we had just moved and she wasnt settled yet so kept wanting me so i was rushing to get it done and did not check the door on holding cage could have lost them all i was gone a good five minites the kids know not to desturb me now i was so upset for weeks so now i tell them im going to do rounds if you want something tell me now they know it takes me a good few hours to clean each breeding cage and food water change check the birds over and clean all chicks and nest boxes got rutine back so hopeful;ly no more loses
