Chicks Chicks Chicks Its Happening
liv considering i myself know really nothing on the should i shouldnt i keep the fm birds im probably no help but considering its such a touchy subject and most well established breeders wont even admit they have it and if they do they just keep breeding regardless no major clean ups or trying to minimize the situation due to the need to bench that good winning bird i doubt we are going to get more than we have been given in this thread i was told by my vet any that dont feather at the right phase and continue to struggle when due out the nest are better off anesthetized ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ what im not understanding here is if its a viris and can not or is not transmitted from fm chicks onto their young yet is transmited from feeding peronts ,.....why is this the case ???? and if the chicks were fostered and then refostered at few days to a week will the new foster mum have contracted the viris and be likely to pass it on to all her fearthering clutches along with the cock bird from this nests ????? if its a viris that goes away then why do birds get reafected after a long rest and a very good cleaning of inviroment ?? or is it only when new birds enter your stock that this may possably accure ??? renee thank you for your awnsers on what you do i have done what you said about putting the birds on the growned it was the most sensable thing i could think to do so im glad it was not for nothing also i have been vaccuming and throughing away the feathers drop also so its nice to know this is what you do as it makes me feel like at least i chose to do a sensable thing as for chicks im still unsure to keep or not but will wait for others input into this subject if at all i get any as its something im really not wanting to premoate in my breeding stock and if theirs a remoate chance of it continuine through breeding these birds then my decicion will be quiet easy how ever if the reality is that these birds will premote a healthyer inviroment through this viris going through out my stock leading to a strong amunity that which in turn stops the actual efects of the viris surficing ....then mabe i need to really consider keeping and breeding with these young birds ? im very lost on this one i just want to do what right for my birds im not worryed about any period of time i may have to stop breeding for and im not worryed that it may take longer to have my first show bird to show i just want my flocks best interest dealt with so... anybody care to partake in this descution then please feel free to do so <...thankyou in advance

Chicks Chicks Chicks Its Happening
okay this is the second year that I have had an outbreak and I identified the source of this year's outbreak and disposed of her. Maybe more experienced breeders can say for sure but in my limited experience a chick that recovers from FM does not pass it onto their own chicks. Is this what you are asking? Maybe more experienced breeders can say for sure but in my limited experience a chick that recovers from FM does not pass it onto their own chicks. Is this what you are asking? yes this is what im wanting to know im wanting to know that if i keep these young birds the un affected ones a) will they be carriers and produce fm chicks and the affected chicks should they be culled to stop french molt spreading from aviary to aviary or do the not breed fm chicks either is it a permanent thing or only a viris that last 3 months ??or know one really knows for sure

well you have a very weird way of saying it maby you should of stuck to breeding show budgies can be very challenging and is not for the faint hearted. as no offence could of or would of been taken said like that yes everything you said was true but it looked and felt very directed toward me the way you worded it mabe ? well no qualms here okay i know you only mean well i guess im a tad touchy after all i did everything to a t quarantine included and i do medicate quarantines just not doxy i use other things i have a very stricked practice all birds get vet tested poo smear, gulet test before entery to the flock at 16.50 a bird its worth it to the rest of my flocks health for not much

Look I agree with you on NOT breeding with "runners" that is why I was happy to give RIP those affected budgies - she doesn't have a problem with it, so each to their own. Obviously I got French Moult last year from an infected adult bird that I brought in, this happens I'm afraid 'cause there is NO way of knowing whether an adult is a carrier- no obvious signs you can pick up on during quarantine, no test and no medication, and you only realize when you get a nest of affected chicks. I send the affected parent to God. Harsh though that may seem but I have no time for a carrier of such a pervasive and untreatable virus. The chicks I isolate and give doxy to. I know you don't agree with this but although doxy does target pararsitic infections it also boosts the budgies immune system and I can't see anything wrong with that. I also remove and dropped feathers from their holding cage every day. Above all I make sure I continuously wipe all surfaces in the breeding room with a wet cloth to minimize the reansfer of feather dust - an identified means of transmission of the FM virus. I also hoover very regularly. I do breed with those chicks that make a full recovery, they are after all immune to the FM virus now. thank you for this renee this is what im after so may i ask do the fully unaffected birds breed fm or not and if so is it only the odd chick or every clutch ?? im with you source the problem and dispose of it in the rightful manner as harsh as it mayseem i would also do this with the chicks effected only they can be re homed as pets only if not its exactly what i will be doing

Perhaps breeding show budgies is not for you, there's no shame in that. To become a successful show breeder you require patience, long-term vision, attention to detail, a thirst for knowledge and the where-with-all to invest on the birds, their health, their food and optimal environmental conditions. If you cannot or will not meet the required criteria then you need to accept that you will continuously have issues of one kind or another. renee i think you know me not at all i are all the things you suggest im not and above all im very willing to spend any amount on just one bird to do what it takes to get it back to health (as you should clearly know ) i know more than you may think and more than it seems im defendantly in for the long run putting in all my knowledge and effort into getting my foundations of my aviary and my stock set up correctly before entering this challange as you put it i have not gone out of my way to buy supper birds as you suggest but i sure have gone out of my way to buy good stock from breeders i know to be repritable and who have provided me with well breed healthy stock for very reasonable prices for what they are just because you may not not go out of your way to make sure birds you may sell are in their optimal health and best condition does not mean others do not you know not of my quarintee practice and i think what you wrote was out of line if i was not strong or patiant as you sugested then in reading your post toward me well i would of just thrown my hands in the air and to *** with it this is not the case and i think as one of the more listened to members on this sight you need to watch what you write as you can easyly deture others with your strong words and abrupt nature if i was not to know you as i do then i would feel very deflated by what you wrote lucky for me i know your just very speak before you think, straight to the point person not knowing the harm you could do in your words to others you were not very incoraging now were you if you have no real advice for me then dont give it  not happy jan ps i found that i decided to breed show birds because i love birds and i love to get the show birds back to their true beautie and in full optimal health and vitility not just for a ribbon for the achievement of producing a fine healthy product we are all breeding for different reasons this you did get right

this is my first time breeding show birds and i must say so far i was ecstatic to sucks really fast but im doing a major re do off everything and culling lots so next year after a break hope all will go fine im not in mood to go into all my trobblesbut will latter at moment to busy fixing issues why not been on for few days all should be fine but for now im very down heartened :WobbleSign: ive never had sickness or problems ever so ..... this hurts i prided myself on the health of my birds mind you these were all self breed from one main source bring ing birds in was the main probblem although healthy they all have different bugs and immunity and a bird room was my biggest mistake ever money wasted big time so im going back to what i know and have always practiced as this year i listened to the people and it all went handicapped from start back to my system from now on- Hello All ...
you are doing so good with thoughs babys look at them their happy and healthy great job and welcome- Do You Breed French Moult?
Don't despair. Isolate the affected chicks and IF YOU CAN give them a course of doxy. i am not disheartening to point of , why me ,however i am sad my first show breed birds come out affected with this i am not going to doxy as you doxy for psittacosis my birds have nothing wrong with them i got a vet out to my birds renee and did smears and crop their all got the okay that was only last month my vet told me dont doxy unless nececery i know every one on here loves doxy but im not of the same opinion yes i have had a bad start to showing but no my birds do not need doxy yes i have isolated chicks as was advised by vet to do so and have started cleaning the cabinets one by one and will pack up for while i think- Auction in Brisbane. 15th November

Goodbye Mick

can i ask a question while this subjects brought up what contributes to the virus being caught and in breeding a french molt bird are you infact infecting the cock or hen being bred with and all the chicks born even if signs do not show and how do you stop it running through your flock if you do happen to be infact unlucky enough to get this condition in your nests how do you deal with it their are so many discussions about it but not how to tackle the problem - Who Else Has Had A Bad Breeding Season?
