Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
ahhh thanks linda s. i measured it all out today, using our 6mx3m shed we currently have in our backyard to get a visual idea of what a 3x3 would look like.what do you reckon of a 1.5mx3m flight. it looks pretty good to me. with 10-12 cabinets inside also. how many birds do you reckon i could house at one time. eventually if i go ahead with this plan id like to where the flight will be cut aanother hole in th wall and also have an all wire(or mostly wire) exterior flight, but make it so i can lock them in at night. so much to think about and work to do. good thing im on 1 acre of land and councils are leaniant

Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
Yes shannon i am definitley getting a bird room, either my original plan or my second plan, im just trying to price it all out. its just a matter of time and patience. and im not that patient when it comes to things like this and ive waited a while. Have you got a bird room up yet shannon or plan too? And what is a nibbler?

okay will have to put a window at the back. mesh over that. how are you supposed to cut the tin though? probably a stupid question

Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
Okay thanks for that Kaz. if i can get a 3x3 shed under $250 all should be good. insulation will probably cost around $165. Thats all four walls and roofing. then i will buy either that alumnium tubing from bunnings to frame for the flight which will measure around 3mx1.5. or if my budget doesnt allow ill have to get some pine and build frame that way. I reckon the aluminium looks better like Dazs'. also may i ask kaz why did you not use batts on the roof? was there a particualr reason? do you reckon a fully insulated shed. with the door left open during the day(obviosly with a mesh door shut) would get enough air in? or would i need to have like a pedestal fan mounted on the roof, aimed straight down the middle of cages anf light to help circulate air or something like that?

Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
Thanks Kaz, just what i was looking for. That bag of polyester batts..... how many square metres does it cover and what rating was the polyester batts (R....)? because for a 3x3 garden shed fully insulated i worked out: 1 wall: 3mx1.8m= 5.4m2 4 walls : 5.4m2x4= 21.6m2 so i need approx 21.6m2 of polyester batting for all 4 walls. + Polystyrene sheet for roof only: Gable roof shed(measured ours)=1.5mx3= 4.5m2 = 4.5m2x2 = 9m2 of polystyrene sheet for roofing. Then i need the ply to cover. Now i know what i need and what im looking for ill get prices. thanks a heap Kaz

Escaped Bird Hangs Around
its a fact that if your were to tame your bird to the full extent of freedom outside and in that budgies only fly up to 500 meters surounding their home each way true . That is awesome

Escaped Bird Hangs Around
Hey Karen, if your breeder cages are anything like mine are, with the pull out tray, and when itss out while your cleaning theres a gap left at the bottom. i just simply overcome this by cutting a scrap piece of timber the size of the gap at the bottom. the birds arent strong enough to move this and it blocks up the gap left where the tray would normally be. ive used for ever and never had an escapee. good luck and glad you got your little hen back, its not every day you have an escapee and get them back!

Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
Pearce will you still be showing any birds? i suppose that with colony breeding, you have little to no control of who pairs with who, making it more difficult to breed a 'better' qualtiy bird. that is my take on it anywy, correct me if im wrong. nice to see you back mate

Thanks mysixbabies, but does anyone have a rough idea on what it would cost, as people have similar setups, just bigger. interested in hearing from you.

Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
im thinking of possible changes already. new idea and in a differnt place, much more practical and hopefully work out cheaper. id like to put up a 3x3 garden shed. wrap with blue stuff then insulate, line with walls. put half flights (or a liitle more) with other left over section breeding cages all along one wall. i will but a zinc 3x3 off ebay for a 150-200 hundred. what do you guys reckon on insulation of the whole shed ie roof and walls. blue wrapping then lined with mosonite or something.. how much am i looking at for that???? i worked out that ill need 45 m2 of insualtion. just exploring different options beside the aviary original plan. as mum and dad are paying for a lot of it. the original aviary plans they reckon could cost up to $700.00 so do you reckon slab and all above materials would be under budget. where i want to put it it will get arvo sun and a tad morning sun. will have the eave of the house poking over a bit of it. so with insualtion walls and roof shouldnt get too hot. and cause powerpoint is right outside carport, less than 10m away, ill just get an extension cord and run through semi permanently to run flouros and other electricals, such as pedestal fans should the need arise.

Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
Kaz do you have split flights or one open flight?
-
Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
just another question. ive cleared the area ready for the slab next weekend and then construction starts first day of school holidays. organised itall the other day with my pop. my question is, what would be a good size for a split flight, cocks and hens? the flight will be 3.5-4m x 2m. or leave one open flight. i know from the holding cages that some of the males turn a little *****, and start to mate with each other. what have you guys done, what would you recommend, if my area is large enough for two flights. i have 40 some budgies now andwill be getting to 60-80. does space permit? cheers
