How Would You...
do you mean just a normal screw, between the gaps? or does the head need to be a little bigger to cover the bars either side. if you know what i mean.

5 Eggs
5 ggs is a good average clutch. Besides, its how many that are fertile that is really important. Hypothetically, you could have 7 eggs and only 3 fertiles, obvioulsy depending on a number of factors of both birds(hen and cock).Or you could have 3 eggs and 3 fertile. But that is the average amount. good luckAgreed maesie,my little recessive pied is a little machine, she lays large cluthes first round (10-12) eggs and second round 6-7 eggs. She is just a normal sized budgie.

hey Kaz the cage front you took a photo of, how do you mount that to the ply cabinet? my cage fronts have spikes to stick in holes that you drill.

Breeding Cage- Value Of It?
hey pearce my cages are outside under an unused carport against the house blocked off so no wind draughts , i only have all wooden cages 8 are professionally built and some others. on one of my other posts i have aplan of my new aviary/breeding area that will go up in a few weeks(cant wait) it will be great.

Breeding Cage- Value Of It?
yes pearce i noticed they werent on eBay anymore, what a bugger. i was thinking, the only reason i want to buy a new one is because i have 1 cabinet with 4 cages that are mesh fronts. i dont like them (wooden doors). want good cage fronts. but other than that they are great. i just thought i could rip the mesh off, chuck the old nest boxes and order some new cage fronts from my mate and buy new boxes which would come to about $80-$90 for all four cages and they would look brand new, and a coat of white paint of course. that would give me atotal of 14 breeding cages. that would be all i need. unless someone else knows someone who builds cheap ones. also pearce i do know of one fella who lives at Bethania (through browns plains, waterford area qld), i ordered boxes off him, dont know how much he charges, i might give him a call tomorrow. if intrested pearce ill let you know what he wants for a breeding cage. (his nest boxes were excellent, i was very pleased with them.

Breeding Cage- Value Of It?
hey everyone. there is a fella down in Nsw, who contacted me a couple of weeks age about a breeding cage i was after. i live in jimboomba. He is conveniently coming up to greenbank (which is 5 minutes from jimboomba) to pickup a motor or something. he said he'll drop it off. he wants $250 for it. thats too my door. i think its pretty good. but just wasnt sure and wanted a second opinion, especially as m y parents have no idea with something like this. what do you think (see picture) it doesnt have boxes ar anything and some fronts a little bent in one place. please leave your honest opinion. cheers

My Aviary....start To Finish
hey Kaz/Ken those birds look great. im not a big fan of larger parrots but like smaller birds. i also keep gouldian finches, they are so easy to look after, they are awesome. as well as budgies i have cockatiels, red rumped parrots, gouldians and lovebirds. The first gouldian cock is very nice. and does ken aviary breed the gouldians or seperate them?

Breeding Room/joint Flight 6mx3m
hey guys As some might know ive been thinking about building a bird room and larger flight cage. my parents needed my old aviary (to be put up) for the dogs shelter (as it wasnt massive and i was upgrading, it was cool). Any way i negociated a little and my mum came up wih the idea so it is all good. My brother (mechanical apprenticeship, good with hands), myself (not that handy), Dad, and i asked my Pop the other day who is an ex concreter/builder. The plan is to build a breeding room/aviary off the side of the current 6x3 garden shed down the back (im on one acre, jimboomba) so on the 6m side, there will be a breeding room approx 2-2.5m along the wall and 2.5-3m outwards. and then with the rest will be flight area. Thats the plan as current but my pop is gonna have look at everything soon. Im sure ive done something wrong! I seem to of lost pro desktop auto CAD :laughter: so i did a little diagram on paint (pretty shabby :fear ) Because it against the shed this saves a bit of money as the shed is already tinned along the back. Then both sides will be tinned in and the front will be mesh (all along except a little mesh will wrap around the far right flight end). First you will enter through a door into the breeding area, then another door to the flight area. My breeding cabinets are in the carport at the moment so they will be more enclosed in now than before most been through winter, so it shouldnt be any colder. From this information can you see there will be any problems?please tell me so i can work around it. as my pop is on holidays and this will commence when he returns in a few weeks. thanks a heap Cameron......wait to hear from you!

The Creation Of My New Breeding Room
i suppose. my area wont be large, so even cheaper again. Plus tiles will look 100 times better (in my opinion), and the practicality of them- the ease of cleaning. you can just run the vacuum around in there and mop up any mess. thanks for that kaz. That is a far better optioon for me in the long run. ill get my brother to help and have a crack at laying them.
-
The Creation Of My New Breeding Room
well your tiling job looks like a proffesional job. those tiles are reasonably priced, but you still have to buy the grout and everything to lay them on...

The Creation Of My New Breeding Room
hey dave this is looking great . my setup is/will be very similar to yours  . i have the seperate aviary/flight for the resting birds and i will be putting up either a shed or aviary approx 3mx3m or 3mx2m only for breeding cages and other breeding equipment. Very interested too see the finished product, this is inspiring me to hurry up and do mine. And Kaz did you tile your birdroom yourself? that looks fantastic. i wanted too lay just some vinyl down when i do mine. just a cheaper option and it suits my budget. nice work Kaz!!!!!!
