  1. Actually, it very much looks male to me. If those photos accurately show the colour, how could he be a female, with the completely purple and blue cere? I am interested to know, I can see a tiny bit of white on his/her cere but I would have called that bird a male.
  2. That's what I was thinking, that Opaline chick definitely looks male, and the only way you'd get a male Opaline out of that pairing was if the mum is Opaline and the dad is split.
  3. Would it be okay to breed a female for the third clutch if her first one and second one were only one baby each, and she's had a 4 month break since then? She is 3 years old and is a great mother and always flirting with the males and eager to breed. I've stuck to only two clutches per year, but would doing this be harmful to her or her babies?
  4. Okay, well, I have no clue what their background is other than their parents..so not a good idea then huh. Was just wondering (as they have paired up--not nestbox--and I know they'll have the colour babies I'm looking for) but if it's too close I won't let them breed. Thanks anyway.
  5. Is breeding half-siblings together (same mother, different fathers) too closely related? When is too closely related, and when are they unrelated enough to breed safely without health worries etc?
  6. One of my birds had the exact same thing, I took her to the avian vet and they didn't know what it was..Gave me some antibiotics for something else wrong with her they found, and she was fine..
  7. Okay here's some more photos of him. What do you think; Violet Dark Green? If so, how can you tell if he is single factor or double factor Violet?
  8. I thought Spangle as well, what with the wing markings, but the head markings are definitely not Spangle...
  9. Agreed. Cobalt Yellowface Dominant Pied male, and very young still. And cute too.
  10. Is this bird an Olive Green (or Dark green) or a Violet Green? The reason I'm asking is he has some blue/violet feathers on him, which are the same colour as my Cobalt DF Violet. (will you need a picture of the blue to know or is the shade of his green enough?) Also, he looks about 4-5 months old to me, maybe a bit younger, opinions?
  11. 1-male 2-male 3-female? 4-male 5-male 6-male 7-female
  12. I didn't think he was Opaline, because of the markings you can see on his face?
  13. Looks male to me.
  14. I need to know what Cinder was, and Kyra (his daughter) is. I recently got a Mauve budgie, and I noticed her colouring is majorly different to Cinder and Kyra's. Lakia's (the new Mauve girl) colour is a dark blue..While Kyra's has a few lighter blue and a lot of very dark grey/blue feathers. Could she possible be Slate, or some sort of Violet Grey, or just a different shade of Mauve? What causes the difference in their colouring? I've looked Slate up and it seems it is sex-linked, which makes sense, considering all of Cinder's daughters were his colour. Here are some pictures of the birds I am asking about. This was Cinder, the father of Kyra. What colour was he? This is Kyra, what colour is she? And this is Lakia. Notice the difference in colour/shade between her and Kyra..Why is that? Please reply soon. Apologies for the many many pictures, had to show clearly what I was asking.
  15. I'm thinking he's a Grey Cinnamon Recessive Pied. And very cute.
  16. Agreed, definitely a male.
  17. Okay thanks for the help everyone.
  18. What colour is Lakia? Is she a normal Mauve Opaline, Mauve Violet, Violet Grey..?

So does anyone know what her colour is, is she a normal Mauve or does she have some violet in her or what?
  20. Mum is a Cobalt DF (double factor) Violet YF2, the dad is a normal Cobalt DF Violet. You'll have 50% Cobalts, 25% Skyblues and 25% Mauves. 50% double factor Violet, 25% single factor Violet, and 25% normal. Half will be Yellowface like the mother. Dad could be split for something so you might get some suprises. Plus, it looks like you're colony breeding the birds, so who knows what you could get.

Alright. It's not my birds' toy but the person's house she was at before I picked her up..I'll mention it to them, thanks for the warning. Okay, so what colour does she look like by the way? I'm thinking a SF or maybe even DF (considering how my Sf Violet Mauve looks, and this girl looks more purple than her) Violet Mauve Opaline? I'm going to call her Lakia (lak-eye-ya). The name just popped into my head a couple days ago, and I looked it up..means 'born on Thursday' in Indian apparently.
