  1. Hey maybe he needs to be told that his birds are all bi-sexual and start pairing them up that way. Who know this guy sound so thick he'd probably do it and be amazed when they actually start laying eggs. :hap: :hap: :hap:Oops I mean Homosexual!!!!!
  2. What a beautiful moment, nature at its best!! :hap: Carolyn alais: Budgielover13
  3. Hi Andrew I can definately relate, when I was 17 I got my top and bottom braces, then after nearly 3 years of brace wearing, plate wearing, and having my 3 wisdom teeth removed I also had my lower jaw shortened. "FUN NOT". I feak people out by letting them feel the head of the screws by touching my jaw where my bottom jaw joins my top jaw (touching my jaw line just back from my chin from the outside). But 20 years later and my teeth are still as beautiful as the day I finally got crossed off the Royal Dental Hospital's current patient list. It is all worth it although you probably don't feel like that just at the moment. Cheers Carolyn alais: Budgielover13
  4. Sorry to hear about the chick you tried so hard to help. Just wondering if this may be a bad pairing, maybe things would be better if cock and hen were paired to different partners? Does anyone have any comments? Carolyn alais: Budgielover13
  5. Thanks Kaz for the info about the colouring of the chicks, I think the male must be split for blue because 2 of the chicks have yellow feathers appearing and 1 of them has white which I'm assuming will be a blue or grey chick and the others green. I will do my best to work out this photo thing because I would really like to post some photos of both my chicks and breeding units I in the process of making up. Thanks Carolyn alais: Budgielover13
  6. Hey MB Can't wait to bring a baby boy inside to tame, but not sure whether to wait till I breed a pretty one or to just go and bring the first boy I breed in, my son Mitchell is busting a gut to have a tame one inside . Carolyn alais:Budgielover13
  7. Just to keep you all undated, The 3 chicks are all going strong, first at 10 days is nearly ready to ring, tried yesterday and it fell off instantly so I will have another attempt tomorrow as I know how quickly the ring can go from being way too big to way too small. The last egg was infertile and has gone see through. Should I remove this egg or not as the hen is sitting on it with the chicks she hasn't removed it like I thought she would? I am hoping to post some photos real soon just finding the time to work out how I know you have a post explaining what to do but I am useless when it comes to computers. I can't even find photos I've downloaded directly from my camera to print let alone downloading them onto a defferent site. i tried and I thought I'd got them into the photobucket but only one photo seemed to come up and then i thought there'd be an icon for photobucket come up on my main screen but nothing so I'll give it another go tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed!

Yeah that is a bit of a bugger!!! But always look on the bright side I recently went to an auction where about 6 or so birds went for the $1,000+ mark, 2 of those went for $1,300 and there's go guarantee that these birds will reproduce or even make it home in that case. Some people have more money than sense. Although saying that I have spent a bit on a couple of birds (nothing like $1,300) myself and one of these did kick the bucket not long after getting it into my avairy - no young produced. 9. I know how frustrated you feel, because 2 years ago when I was breeding just some pet type budgies I managed to get 4 separate clutches and not a single chick managed to made it. 1st clutch Hen fantastic sitter when at egg stage but as soon as they hatched failed to sit at all and all died. Being a new Mum I decided I would let her lay another clutch 2nd clutch and hope she had learnt from her first, but no she let her first chick also die so I felt I had no option but to take the last two as they hatched to try and hand rear them but unfortunately to no avail. 3rd clutch another pairing produced 3 eggs but only 2 hatched, 1 dying shortly after hatching as it was dead still under hen when I checked for hatched chicks and then the other chick lived for about 1 week before dying, I think because being by itself the hen sat too tight, which I didn't know about back then and am upset to think that just a couple of marbles may have been enough to prevent this. The last 4th clutch, was in a colony nest box and was totally my fault as I only had 1 extra nest box compared to pairings for the aviary so the clutch of eggs got smash (I'm assuming) from another bird. Amazing how much you can learn in just a short time and this site is just amazingly fantastic!! Keep your chin up as at the moment I only have 3 breeding pairs up (no more colony breeding for this little black duck) and have 3 beautiful chicks ranging from 4 days to 10 days old and seem to be doing very well. And both my other pairings I discovered 1 egg in each of their nest boxes just today :hap: so here's hoping all go well. Good Luck to you in the future. Carolyn alais: Budgielover13
  10. My heart goes out to your son for his great loss :hap: . And generally speaking the good times so out weigh the bad, although this won't be of any comfort to your son just at the moment, but here's hoping some more good times :feedbirds: shine through soon. In my thoughts Carolyn alais:Budgielover13
  11. Kaz, Yeah your right lots can go wrong but with 10 eggs 1 gotta be a National Show Winner for sure. Carolyn alais: Budgielover13
  12. Oh my GOLLY!! I feel so helpless just looking at your beautiful bird Fizzer(excluding the cyst that is ), and wish your son the best of luck with his bird. Carolyn alias:Budgielover13
  13. Hi AV, Congratulations on having 3 eggs, my 3 chicks seem to be going well I wish I could say the same for my new breeding room. Have to wait for a couple of nice days in a row as I got the sealer for the concrete yesterday arvo, it just won't happen quick enough for me. Budgielover13
  14. Hi Skittles! My sons Mitchell and Cooper wanted to see a photo of a tame budgie I came across the photo of lemon drop on your shoulder and my youngest son Mitchell 5 instantly relpied "that's what I wanted to see" and then followed it up with "she's got no bras on" . When really with how your holding your shoulder up you actually may have a bra on but yes guess what men are men even at the tender younge age of 5 will always draw their attention to females attomony. By the way I think your budgies are georious and my sons agree. thanks Carolyn alias: Budgielover13
  15. I am so grateful that you guys take the the time to help us beginners out, it makes having and breeding budgies a wonderful experience. by the way Elly sorry I didn't get back to you (for me last night for you this morning) but I had my boys who had fallen asleep watching the Olypmic opening and had to get them into bed and then a husband needing my help. Thanks Neats I haven't put the breeding box on the cage as yet but they have been together for about a week now so probably over the weekend I will attach it and see what happens Thanks Carolyn alias: Budgielover13
  16. Thanks so much for this info Elly!! Not watch the Olympic Opening? i thought I wouldn't get a response until later .
  17. Just wondering whether anyone may be able to help me know what I may expect? I have paired up a Voilet Opaline cock with a 4 y.o. Henry George albino hen who has apparently been bred, who I brought at a auction a couple of weeks ago. I know there's no guarantee that the hen will still be fertile but that why I wasting no time with giving her a go. Her cere is nicely browned and plump and has no pinn feather (not moulting). So fingers crossed. So if anyone can help with possible expectations that would be great!!
  18. I saw the most beautiful Violet opaline spangle yellow face at the Young Bird Sheild it came about 12th in its class if I remember correctly, I also seem to remember that it was entered under the opaline class. I personally think the bird should have got Best In Show it was so beautiful. I know when birds fall into more than one class you put it in the class which appears first on the classifications when read from bottom to top. I'm a very new club member and James a member from our club who also judges explained that to us newies.
  19. Do you know whether she has ever bred before? It will be interesting to see how many eggs she lays.
  20. Yeah, i'm going good with the not interupting her too much once or maybe at most twice only no more, it depends on what time of day I have checked her the first time as to whether I check them again or not, and yes I got an early morning check in this morning and both 2nd hatched and 3rd hatched chicks are going okay and the the 4th has now also hatched and so now only have one egg to hatch with so far (knock on wood) only 1 chick, the first hatched not making it. Feeling much more confident in hens abilities now. Yepeee. Male - normal light green and female - normal sky blue from appearances not sure of their parents, so I'm not sure whether they will throw anything but normal light greens and normal sky blues? Anyway only time will tell.
  21. Thanks Elly, now that you say that I do realize I have a bird (which slip my mind) in my avairy which is a hen whose cere is now paling off and getting a blue haze to it and I thought this meant they were too old for breeding with, not that they were just out of condition and you can still use them for breeding when in condition.
  22. Thanks guys, I know some greens are grey greens so I thought the hen beside the grey may have been the bird in mention and was hoping to clear my confusion up. I've got so much to learn- steep, steep curve that learning one!!!!
  23. I actually thought the grey looked like it had a blueish tinge to its cere.
  24. Good news guys, Check the nest box this morning and second chick still okay and third hatched both with some food in crop so here's hoping everthing is still okay tomorrow and I will feel at lot more at ease with the fact mother hen is learning her calling in life to be a mother hen. Will keep you updated with the clutches progress. 3 Eggs hatched, 1st chick died, 2 chicks going okay (wouldn't say strong just yet) and 2 eggs left to hatch not should whether they are fertile or not. I will also add that he did lay a 7th egg but threw 1 egg out of breeding box (I thought this may be because she knew it was inferitle or maybe being a new mum she knew that 7 may be too many for her?) So all in all so far so good with the exception of the first chick. Will update tomorrow about lunch time.
  25. She is just gorgeous, well done for pulling your prize winner through, I know it wouldn't have been easy but it sure did pay off. congratulations Carolyn alais:Budgielover13
