  1. Honestly, I think it's normal. Most budgie behavior doesn't surprise me, each taking on a role that you would think would be for the other to do. She just might be overly excited and acting on it. As long as they find there way around to make it all happen I guess it doesn't matter "who's on top"....... :hap:
  2. okay so it's obvious it a dom pied... So if it is a boy he only needs one gene from dad to be split for opaline? so he would be dom pied split for opaline? But if it is girl she would just be dom pied cause she would need 1 gene from each parent to be split for opaline? (or she would just be an opaline and not pied at all?) Did I get that right? I'm a little confused, but have a good grasp on it so far.
  3. I asked that question earlier but we haven't heard back from karenfernvale on that yet... that would solve alot of "color" questions. Karen, do you have a picture of the underside of the wings?
  4. I see what you are saying... I see yellow, green and "grey" feathers. So your guess is that this is a Goldenface grey/mauve dom pied spangle? And the reason it appears green is the dark factor of the grey/mauve? So my theroy of yellow (goldenface) and blue (grey/mauve - blue base color) make green would be correct in this case just that the dark factors are making a darker green and some of the body color bleed through?
  5. I don't know if this is good or bad, but I don't have ventalation holes in my nest boxes. I have the entry hole and two small holes for optional mounting positions, but no other holes. I would think that too many holes would allow drafts and the chicks or eggs could get chilled more easy. The nest box should we a warm "safe feeling" location. I'm curious to hear what the experts think too???
  6. oh... okay Elly thank you Do you agree that this is a dom pied male?
  7. I don't see how this can be a blue based bird? Are there blue feathers under the wings? Which mutation is giving it the deep green coloring? I haven't seen a blue based bird carry this dark of a green color before, even with cobalt or mauve? I guess I'm lost now... I don't understand. And yes, I agree the "seafoam" is usually with sky blue (as so is the one in the picture)
  8. Pie, your guess is a dom pied male... does that mean he is dom pied split for opaline or just dom pied?
  9. I agree... I love Paradise. Is she a rainbow?
  10. :hap: I didn't know there was a "correct order".... ?? What is that correct order? Like color first, then sex linked, etc... ?? Did anyone ask if this bub has an iris ring? The guess seems to be recessive pied, but if there is an iris, I'm gonna guess DF dominant pied sky blue... Looks alot like this one from the Mutations on the Gypsy Willow page??? And this is a DFDP. That one looks cinny to me ... I wasn't focusing on the cinny part, just the DF DP aspect of it. I don't know my elbow from my ear so, I was just making a comparison as to why I thought DF...
  11. okay KAZ thanks ... so that means this must be a boy? Opaline = girl, Dominant Pied = boy.
  12. I hope it is... that will be soooooo pretty! What is it that you are looking at (at this point) that you say "no opaline"? Just want to learn. I see the Dominant Pied by the markings on the head and wings, but what is it that leads you to say not an opaline at this point?
  13. I'm not sure if this is the right way to explain it, but if she were YF2 her body color would be "washed out". If she were a blue bird the YF2 would make her appear a seafoam green or aqua color, but her color is bright and powerful (besides the signs of molting). This is what a Sky blue YF2 usually looks like.... see how it appears "seafoam green" and he is very light in color, but if you look under his wings you can see sky blue feathers... his base color is sky blue but the YF2 give him a green look....... She's not "actually" blue and green at the same time. I try to think of it like kindergarden school... when you learn that blue (the birds base color) and yellow (the YF2 mtation) make green (the visible color of the bid).... do you know what I mean? Justl ike Inos they are actually blue and green birds but they "apear" as white and yellow (due to their base colors). So I also agree that she isn't a YF2, but maybe Golden face like Neat said. My guess is Goldenface green Dominant Pied Spangle (possibly split to blue, going through molt) EXPERTS... please correct me if I've explained this totally wrong???
  14. Unfortunately I don't know any history on the parents, they were both pet store "rescues" (as I like to call them). So I'm not sure what mum and dad are besides the visible mutations. If this is what an Opaline Dominant Pied looks like, I loved to have one too!! IF is is an ODP would it be male or female? That one looks photoshopped ( edited )What is it about the photo that makes it look altered?
  15. What about these pics then? Still hen?
  16. No, no flash, I learned my lesson on flash and budgie mix... a no no! :laughter: Can it be a girl based on genetics? Mum is Dom Pied and dad is Opaline.
  17. What do you mena? It seems that everyone agrees it's yellow face, but what body color?? I still say Opaline Spangle Yellowface II Grey/Green????
  18. :laughter: I didn't know there was a "correct order"....
  19. Showing off my little one on another topic, some one guessed that this is a dominant pied split for opaline male.... ? Anyone else wanna take a stab at it
  20. I'm gonna guess.... Opaline Spangle YF2 grey green... ????
  21. That's what I thought. I posted the question on the genetics forum and it said something like that... if it was pied it would be a boy... if it was opaline it would be a girl??? The only question now is.... is it pied slpit for opaline or is it a pied opaline??? Neville mentioned something like that but I didn't get an answer to explain that to me yet.
  22. Yes, this chick and another hatched out together on the same day. A few days later a third hatched but that chick died less than two days later. After that chick died the others still pushed forward, but the other chick just seemed to stop growing and developing. No feathers, half the size of the other one. The mother was feeding it (it had food in it's crop when I found it dead), but for some reason it just died. There must have been something wrong with it. But yes, this chick has made it. I found myself calling him Bubba each time I went to check him and hold him, so it has kind of stuck. I was hoping it was a boy so I can keep the name Bubba.... so thanks for letting me know. I knew it was pied, but wasn't sure yet if it was a boy. Thank you. This cat would let you hang it out a window upside down if you wanted. She is wonderful. She's 9 years old now and tolerates two toddlers, a jack russell dog, along with her sister (my other cat)... she's wonderful. I was careful, but she was fine about it. The more I pushed the issue (like putting the bird on her head) then she said "the heck with this" and she just jumped off the couch and sat on the floor and looked at me. She's wonderful. I love my pets and I think they know that and that's why they are so good.
  23. This is all the same chick... three hatched but the other two died (one at about 2 days old and the other at about 9 days old). ??? Not sure it its a dominate pied opaline or a dominate pied split for opaline??? Yes, she is a good cat, great temperment. She was sitting there watching me handle the bird and take the pics and I set the bird next to her and she just looked at it didn't even move until I started to push the issue and put Bubba on her head.... lol!
  24. They grow so fast... feathers are starting to fill out and downy feathers are starting to take on color... here's my little one at 20 days old... Born 9-12-08 today 10-1-08 And just wanted to share this cute picture of Bubba and my cat Nova!!!
