  1. Thank you all on this one... mutation solved... sky blue normal cock
  2. What was the lighting conditions when you took this photo ?Flash on ? Or lighting in and around the bird ?It's the aviary over head lights... regular incandescent bulbs, no flash I did not use flash on these pics at all... it's all nature or aviary lighting... no flash
  3. His face is at least twice as dark as the yellow on his wings though?? Also I have a skyblue YF2 and he is no where near as dark in body color as this guy... I though the cobalt would justify him being so much darker? This is my Sky blue YF2 he has a seafoam green color... This is what I thought to be my Cobalt GF2 he has a more teal/aqua color... So I'm confused now. Is it the greywing in the Sky's make up that makes him that much lighter?? I'm lost now.
  4. I'm kinda lost on the violet explanation... more details or breaking it down would be helpful. As for my particular birds is it everyone's opinion that BOTH are carrying a single factor violet. Single factor violet sky blue opaline spangle cock ??? Single factor violet cobalt normal hen ???? My husband and I just looked closely at both of them and although it might not appear in t the photos... the cocks patch of color on his head actually looks violet and around his neck is also violet. And the hen just above her check patches were the body color and shoulder markings begin is also violet.
  5. I think they are totally white?
  6. You're kidding me.. I got this one right? I never had or delt with Goldenface so ... WOW Is GF just like YF having Type 1 and Type 2 ? This is a type 2?
  7. I think he is just a Sky Blue Normal Cock?? Yes/ No ?
  8. I'm thinking he is a Cobalt Blue Goldenface2 Dominant Pied Cock? Am I wrong? Help? His face just looks so much more yellow to me than the other yellow on his body. PS.. He does have a yellow patch on the back of his head.
  9. I know she is sky blue. But is she dilute, clearwing, spangle.... I have no idea ???
  10. No, not really, he's actually quite a "bright" colored bird. They are down for the night now so I can't look again right now.
  11. I thought that of both, but am no good with the violets... When you say "carrier" you mean they themselves are violet or one of their parents where and they are "split" to violet? Or is Violet an additional color to their color?
  12. I originally thought this to be a normal green cock, but after looking closer I think he might be a green cinny?? Please tell me what you think?
  13. Thanks MB. I thought possible violet because in natural sunlight she has the prettiest purple color, but of course the camera is not showing as well.
  14. MADE ME SMILE!!!!
  15. As most of you know I have many many pet style budgies, but today I was given (for free) a beautiful pair of show budgies... I have named them Henry and Liz (Prince Henry and Queen Elizabeth because they are by far the most estravigant birds I have right now compared to the pet style budgies). So can you tell me what they are?
  16. Unless the green is split for blue (ie, had one blue parent and one green) you would get all greens, split for blue. It doesn't matter which sex is blue or green. So all green (possiblly split for blue). And if the parents are split for other things like opaline or something, will I get any of those or only normals?
  17. When you have two young birds that you know you will want to pair and mate in the future, at what age do you pair them (I don't mean with nesting boxes) so they can become a bonded pair BEFORE breeding? Do you "bond" your birds first or do you just stick birds in together when you're ready to breed them? I don't know this because most of my bonded pairs bonded on their own in the aviary as young adults... but if you know from the start (3 or 4 months old) that you want to pair two birds when they are adults when do you do it?
  18. It seems everyone has complex questions on so many different mutations, wondering what they will get if they breed a certain two together. This is probably the most simple one but I have no clue. I have a normal green cock and a normal cobalt hen... if I bred them what would I get? Would they ALL be green normals? Does the color and sex make a difference (if the hen was green and the male was blue instead of the other way aroud) or would that change my out come?
  19. I do the same. Do it at a time that you can be near by in case trouble breaks out. I try to do my on a Saturday morning when I'm just doing house chorse and such... if the aviary is large enough they will most likely find a spot they feel safe in until they become brave enough to explore or get hungry and head for the feed dishes. Good luck let us know how you make out.
  20. I'm going to say a Normal Cobalt Cock
  21. These are the parents of the "yellow faced" birds.... These are the parents of the "white" birds... Can anyone tell me now seeing the parents of the chick what my chicks are for sure? I've been told so far that I possible have YF2 mauves and cobalts and recessive pied and recessive pied clearwings??? Males have the pink ceres and females have the white/blue ceres? Can anyone confirm or give their own opinion? Help would be appreciated. Also, NEXT YEAR, if I pair the YF2 hens with the recessvie pied clearwings cocks what would I get? Is that a good combo?
  22. I did not breed them, I got them from the breeder. I am getting a picture of the parents emailed to me today some time so when I get it I'll post it and maybe you can tell better what the babies are from seeing the pics of the parents. Thank you for this info so far. Is that your guess GenericBlue... do you think my "white" birds are double factor dom pied? I was thinking that or recessive pied? That was my hope to pair some of these biabies when they got older. I can't pair any of the like ones together because they are from the same clutches so I thought maybe of the babies I got, maybe I'd luck out with even numbers of males and females.... ?? So the birds with the really pink/purple ceres you think are males and the ones with the blue/white you think are females???
  23. I guess that's my fault for trusting the breeder then? Sorry for getting snippy, but I haven't been on line in a while and the first time I come back on for help it seemed like an all out attack. okay, so the nest box is now being taken off... (I'll do it as soon as I sigh off here). Now, it seems that the female is a clearwing the male is a normal... do you have any guesses on the youngsters in the other photos?? What might they be?
  24. Sorry Liv, but you are mistaken... here are pics I just took. The first picture is the male the second is his same picture blown up close. The thrid is the female, the four is her's blown up close. The last is a picture of them together. I even used a flashlight to see better to make sure I wasn't seeing things. They both have an iris ring! That being said will anyone help confirm she is a clearwing and tell me what the other might be??? I can't believe I'm getting killed like this when just asking a mutation question?
  25. Sunnie, I didn't use a flash, I learned that my first week on here... That is the lighting for my aviary (spot light kind of lights). What seems to be "washed out" in the photos is actually them... they are washed out with very little color... just smears of pale/sky blue here and there on their rump, etc... and some have very little to no markings on the wings and other have some black markings. BUT... thank you for the help you did give. Thanks so much Sunnie. And not to give attitude or anything, but maybe after eveyone else is done ripping me up for having two new birds in what they feel to be too small of a cage with a nesting box I might get help on the mutations???? :bump: I know you all do things differently and not everyone does things ideally the way the next would, but these birds are doing fine and I will make changes after experiencing things and seeing what works for me and what doesn't.
