  1. No need to say sorry Elly. As I stated I was just taken back by the comment. I'd just hate to see "young budgies" leave this site because they were discouraged by the harshness (although may be joking at times) of the more mature or expienced members. I almost stopped using this site for those very reasons... but when you get someone to help you on this site, they really help and sometimes that help means life or death for one of your birds. I didn't and don't mean to be on "attack mode" and maybe I should just keep my mouth shut, but opening some eyes to how thing continue to come across at times may help not only draw in new members but keep the ones you have. I'm sorry for being rude, especially to KAZ... I have such a passion for this now and want to learn more and more and I'm a strong believer in positive reinforcement... and I just didn't see it on this post. KAZ I AM SORRY FOR BEING SO HARSH... PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
  2. I agree with KAZ, both hens.
  3. Like I said KAZ joking or not, if anyone else just popped into this particular post and didn't know the "relationship" you have with Jodie, "they would think what the heck kind of site is this, they don't want you to get info from anyone but them?" And JB jokes around in the since of silliness and being goofy not insulting someone on a public forum. I've personally seen it on several occations and most of the time it's justified by someone saying "your taking it the wrong way, or words on a computer don't always come out the way you meant it"... so whatever the "reason" is for a post like this doesn't matter to me. I love this site, because you do get great info and someone to hold your hand through tough situations, but it seems that doesn't come without being insulted or knocked down once or twice in between then. Promoting a site and recruting is wonderful, and YES Yahoo is NOT the place to get help with budgies, but saying "what do you not trust the answers you get on BBC?..." that's just not right. People like me who come here for real answers but do not necessarily have "friendships" don't like to be made to feel like they are not as good. We already know that... that's why we're on this site AND OTHERS to get help and experince. You can justify it as an "inside joke" if you wish, but for us "outsiders" we would have never known... and my comments still stand. And KAZ for whatever reason you had to drag JB's name in to try to take the presure off you wasn't cool either.... but then again you are all "friends" right? I said my peace... I felt it was a wrong comment to put on a public post that's all.
  4. Just an update... the little pale fellow is still doing well. His color is still a shade or so lighter than that other two, but her seems strong and mum is feeding him well. Fingers crossed.
  5. They look like 2 hens to me...
  6. Glad to hear this! It is always such a relief when they bounce back. Good for you.
  7. Just wondering why it is an issue for someone to "ask around"? I agree that Yahoo is not the best place to go for answer about budgies, but I don't agree that any one person has to put all their eggs in one basket. If you went to the Dr. and he gave you bad news, wouldn't you get a second opinion? When you have heart for something (or someone) you will find all the answer you can. And if all the answers are the same than you feel confident that you are doing the best you can. I don't think it is fair to make some feel like they are being "spied" on and that be publicly called out on in on a forum. :tut_tut: I'm sure that by no means is it lack of trust of the opinions on this site, but just the lack of confindence on a less experienced person. I too have done this... asked around, or I have addressed a question to a specific person on this site because I felt they took the time to spell things out for me or give me detail without making me feel like an idiot. Joking or not, I'm really turned off by the replies to this post. Some of you seem to be doing this alot, especially to new members or the less experienced ones... you're gonna turn people away. It's a shame
  8. Another chick hatched in this clutch and this one is nice and dark pink... the other one though seems to be a bit darker than earlier today, but still lighter than the other two. I hope everyone is wrong and he makes it.... I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your replies.
  9. Parents are Mauve Opaline Hen and Sky blue YF2 Greywing Split to recessive pied cock... I don't think I can get an ino or cinnamon from them, can I??? That might be more for the genetics/mutation forum huh?
  10. Both the chicks eyes are still closed, but they both are a dark dark blue/black color. I've never heard to "check the eyes". What does that mean? What is it I'm looking for besides the normal "exam" (beak, wings, feet, vent, etc...) in his eyes?
  11. This is Bubba (just about 3 months old now). I love this picture, he almost blends right into the suroundings.
  12. I say hen too. Alot of my younger hens look just like that (mostly the blue series birds I have). I say hen.
  13. Soooooo cute. Congrats!!
  14. As I just told Charlie I think old furniture is wonderful to put to new uses for keets. Breeding cabinets, small flights, etc... I did one a year ago when I got my first 2 keets (now I have over 30) but it came out okay... just needed to make better ventalation on it. Good luck. Post pics so we can see how it comes out.
  15. I say you can use it for sure!! It's amazing what you can do with furniture. I built a small aviary out of an old dresser. The only thing I needed to do was create better ventalation. Good luck I think it would work just fine for you.
  16. I have two clutches (1 with 8 eggs and 1 with 5 eggs). The one has two chicks hatched out and I noticed that one of the bubs is much lighter in color than the other. Mum is feeding both well, but I was just wondering why such a difference in color? Just so you know I felt him and he's not cold.
  17. Can anyone help me on this bird now that new pics are posted?? Thanks
  18. I agree it IS a BOY. Males tend to be "flirty" with other males. Males seem to take on the "caregiver" role and if there are only other males are around he is going to care for them as if they were girls. I say it is a boy. To me it looks like the pink is starting to take on it's blue color... but I could be wrong
  19. I'm envious!!! LOL Beautiful.
  20. I agree 100% with MB on this. :budgiedance: If it's that amazing of a story and a mutation he has never seen... I personally would have taken 1,000 pictures of every angle, in every kind of lighting there is, etc... unbelievable stories should always be backed up with proof or they become just that.... unbelievable. If this is true, I'd love to see a picture too, it would probably be a first for most of us.
  21. Thanks Trish. The backgrounds in the cages are actually the fish tank surrounds you use to make your tanks look nice.... with al lthe greens and rocks... I thought what the heck it looks like "trees to me".... LOL :budgiedance: It's cool you have a whiteface too... I doubt they are brothers though... me being in USA and you being in Australia and all.... My husband wanted to name him Hershey and I told him NO... everyone names their choclate labs here in USA Hershey... and sure enough I went to the petstore the very next day and there was a 5 year old male chocolate lab there named...... you got it..... HERSHY. So, I named him Samson. My three year old son has a hard time with the name though... he calls him SamSam or the brown dog. :budgiedance: Thank you to everyone else for the compliments... it's just nice sharing things other than budgies some times....
  22. I thought LuLu to be Opaline? No? Recessive, really? Never mind Elly, I misunderstood you. You were answering two questions. Yes you agree LuLu is Opaline and you think Sunny is recessive pied (based on my lighting throwing things off). I got ya now. SOrry
  23. I thought LuLu to be Opaline? No? Recessive, really?
