  1. When I worked as a vet nurse local breeders would bring their pups with multicoloured 'collars' made out of plaited wool Each collar was a different combo of colours, just keep a close eye on how tight they are as they grow so quick
  2. Oh no!!!! That's really crappy for you AV So far so good over here but I'm thinking about bringing the ones down the back in the aviaries inside for the next few days as I just can't deal with heading out there every hour or two to hose them off. The aircon is mediochre at best but atleast it shaves about 10degrees off the outside temp.
  3. I definately DON"T keep them together. My lorikeets share a very big aviary with a yellow rosella who the get along with no worries but I'd never put them with my budgies. They are a very agressive species and would most likely kill quite a few before you managed to rescue the remainder.
  4. JB the airports which allow your bird to fly as part of your checked luggage are all the major east coast ones, Melbourne, Sydney and Brissy. If you are travelling to or from an airport elsewhere they need to be sent seperately even if one end of your destination is east coast. So if I flew with birds from Perth it would cost $50ish, but if I flew with birds from Sydney it would cost me nothing as long as that weight was factored into my luggage
  5. If anyone needs me in the next week or two it would be best to PM me and be aware that it may take a couple of days to hear back. I've just had my dishwasher die, plus I'm in the middle of spring cleaning and I've decided to switch the pooter off and just check my email every couple of days until everything is sorted See you all soon .
  6. I have a number of birds in my aviary at the moment who have clipped wings, three babies that AV gave me who still haven't grown them back and a hen of mine that I intended to tame but decided didn't have the temperament for it. Thgey get around the aviary fine as long as there are branches to the ground for them to climb up
  7. Some nice person gave them to me Snowy
  8. Sorry Maesie can't offer any advice but what a good excuse to eat lots of seafood
  9. Which birds are you taking? I didn't realise you had bred any yet...
  10. If you stop will he fly onto you? Maybe he is hoping you will stop for long enough for him to fly onto you and so he puts his wings out in preparation...
  11. I have my quarantine aviary against my lungeroom window so that I can always see what's happening and notice any problems early on. At the moment this is my view
  12. He hasn't had a railing for a while now as it's one that you can take the sides off to turn it into a mini regular bed so it's only really the size that's changed and there ain't much you can do to hide that I must say I was very impressed with him tonight, had to growl at him twice for coming out of his room(a normal occurance anyway) but after that he hopped into bed and lay quietly and 'chatted' to his stuffed bunny and then went to sleep
  13. Yeah that's it JB, I figured if I broke thenews now that it was no longer his cot we shouldn't have any arguments in 8 months time!
  14. This arvo I dismantled the cot that my two year old is very attached to (it's convertible so he uses it as a toddler bed without one side on it) and moved the single bed into hs room for him. He's NOT impressed. I was trying to get hm excited about having the big bed so I did the whole 'happy voice thing' "Do you want to sleep in a big bed and be a big boy Maxy?". His response while gripping tightly to his dismantled cot "Nooo, moi bed" Hmmm might be interesting getting him to bed tonight I figure though that given how attached he is to it, it's better to move it out now so that by the 'someone else' needs to use it he'll be well and truly over it...
  15. I think what Liv meant by 'unrelated' is that they do not necessarily all belong to a single genus, the parakeet group encompasses birds from many different genera. Interestingly the grouping 'Parakeet' is rarely used in Australia at all. I am a conservation uni grad who has studied a broad range of areas including birds and it is just not a grouping that we use here
  16. Pet mice in a cage no worries, just be careful of things like budgie being nipped on the foot if they land on top of the cage and also don't allow the mice to eat from the budgies food dish due to their habit of toileting in their food.
  17. I know how you feel, we are finally looking to get out of rental and buy our own and found a place we love but haven't got the whole deposit saved so it could well be gone by the time we are ready to make an offer, so frustrating!!!
  18. I forgot to tell you JB, the day after you dropped the girls over the little boys next door lent over the fence and asked me when I had my third little boy! They must have seen your little fella in the backyard with my two. God, if my third one's coming out that big I'm serously scared
  19. Gosh I have a two boys under five, not much stresses me out
  20. Why not Lil? It's only a baby, not a disease
  21. Eeeeewwww! I sweep and then vacuum and mop with a 50% vinegar solution about once a week so I've never seen this 'brown mass' he speaks of but I'll definately keep this in mind if I'm short of time in the future
  22. What did the cops say?
  23. Do you mean one of those patio type aviaries with the slid roof on it? If they had shade from the roof then the person can't really call the cops, sounds like someone was just trying to get under your skin. Personally though I cover allmy outdoor aviaries with shade clothe or hose them down on hot days as they still can overheat even with shade
  24. She did have a great bath in her water bowl yesterday though and I took a couple of pics of her with her 'wet look' which I'll put up tomorrow So she's just decided she's having a holiday and why should she let eggs get in the way
  25. I felt much the same as my first with my second, this is actually my third. I am pretty in tune with my body, I was able to feel my oldest moving at only 14 weeks gestation (he was a nasty little bugger though, you could fell him with your hand on my tun at 16 weeks!), but this just feels 'different', I don't really know any other way to describe it, time will tell I guess
