Ants
In the aviary you can spray bird mite spray around the edges where the ants enter, it can help to deter them, also if you place the food nd water bowls empty upside down on the floor and spray the bottom edge of them(so the spray doesn't go inside them) and then flip them right way up and fill it may help to deter ants from the actual bowls as well.

Older Budgies
I have noticed the same with my birds and the weather at the moment Deb, I'm contemplating installing a heat lamp in a corner of the aviary for these very cold nights

Mixed Avairy
It really all depends on the size of the aviary. When I move out bush I hope to build an IMMENSE aviary (we're talking tennis court sized) which will be mixed and I will have many more options as they will be able to create their own 'personal space' but in a smaller aviary you must be more careful and the smaller it gets the less species will coexist. Before making decisions on which birds should be housed together you must always look at the size of the enclosure first.

Bush Budgies
Jwancia bred hers but I *believe* she got them via the pet shop she works at so the history was a little uncertain (I recall the baby had a bit of a blue tinge that led to some doubts)

A Few Key Player To My End Rezult
I thinks I knowa that hen A bird can be green split blue but can never be blue split green. Green is a dominant colour genetically so even if you only have one gene out of the two that is green the bird will look green, in order to be blue the bird needs to have two blue genes as blue is recessive to green. Hope that helps GB

Male Budgies Fighting
You say you have three males, how about making two cages of two so that no one is alone, should solve the fighting.

A Homemade Brooder For Baby Budgies
My set up would probably be more/just as expensive as installing a thermo on yours so it's probably not much help to you anyway

A Homemade Brooder For Baby Budgies
I don't have one on my brooderbut my setup is quite different to yours, at two weeks they aren't too bad at maintaining their temp so a drop of a few degrees at night wouldn't be a huge problem as long as it was only small and you are sure of the temp.

A Homemade Brooder For Baby Budgies
Oftenreptile shops sell thermostats for people adding them to their reptile enclosures, you can also buy them at places like middy's but they seem to be more expensive there. I was told about $30 at th reptile shop, much more at Middy's

Miracles Do Happen After All!
Yes Renee, I'll be treating this lot with lots of extra care, I'm paranoid about them now that we've finally got this far Atleast some of the eggs are fertile so we'll just have to wait for hatching babies now, as I was away when she laid them I'm not sure on exact dates so I'll just have to wait and see really. She seems a very dedicated mother so far, wasn't impressed with the idea of moving of her eggs at all and gently pecked my fingers to let me kow, not hard though Hopefully she is just as gentle with her babies, first sign of trouble I'll hand rear as I won't have another suitable clutch to foster into.

The Bushfire Victims...
We stacked them all just outside the front door and I was there a couple of times as I dropped in with some toothbrushes, etc and then checked what other things they might actually need and went home and brought them back so you might have seen me :budgiedance:

Miracles Do Happen After All!
For those that don't remember JimmyBanks and I organised a while ago to joint breed his two hens with two nice boys of mine. We have been disappointed every step of the way and had just given up when I left for my study trip two weeks ago. Because Jim had been overseas he hadn't been able to get over before I left to pick the girls up so they stayed in with their partners until I got home when I found 4 EGGS!!!!!!! :budgiedance: We still have no action from one of the girls but at this stage it looks like atleast some of those eggs under the other are fertile(she was getting cranky and wouldn't let me candle them so I didn't push it but saw one fertile one before giving up)

Selection Night Tonight For The Victorian Adult Shield
It's not a case of not being allowed the bib GB. If he came up against a bird that was very similiar in every other respect but without the bib that may be the decider though

Faults And Good Points With My Birds.
I agree with Renee, the has pretty good blow and nice direction to her feathers but would be best paired to a cock with good width across the front. Maybe it's just the angle but the cock is similiar in the width issue, are they related by any chance?

My New 10 Foot By 10 Foot Shed
Have you had any issues with your cocky? I never had a probem with my 'budgie galah' bothering my birds but he developed a nasty habit of fidding with the holding and breeding cages I had in the big aviary (which aren't in there any more but you saw where they were) and I had to take him out as he was being 'disruptive'

An Update From Mb
No, just one LIV. I'm actually lucky that I haven't got it as bad as I did with the boys, I'm just one who seems to suffer badly from it, I don't even want to imagine what I would be like if I did have twins!! My mum is predicting that since it's not as bad (I'm actually able to eat this time some things whereas I barely could eat anything the last two times) I must be having as girl We'll see

An Update From Mb
Hi guys  Wow I forgot how tiring it is to do university 'intensives'. Because my course is done by distance I have two weeks up in hot, dry Shepparton studying like mad before I go back to Melbourne. My kids are back home with my mum (poor nanna ) but I'm still exhausted. I must admit though I think the medication I'm on for bad morning sickness(which causes drowsiness) and the lack of proper diet as there are few things I can comfortably eat aren't helping. Anyway, I've finished my first week (which included Saturday lessons) working from 8:30am till 7pm most days and I've had a rest day today which is wonderful. I'm staying with a lovely family on a small rural property with four alpacas, two dogs and a fluffy cat for company I was lucky enough to leave my critter family in the capable care of a friend who has moved into my house while I am away so that is a stress off my mind For anyone that missed my previous post I'm studying a dip ed which is a one year teaching course which will allow me to teach primary and secondary.

Another How Many Can Fit Q
About 50, wasn't going to put many more as I want to leave space for a few chicks but just wanted to make sure 2 or 3 extra wouldn't be stretching it too much as I wanted a couple of big normals to put with some of my birds. By the time next spring/summer season comes around I'll hopefully be preparing to move to won't be much breeding happening this year anyway. Should add too that once my breeding finishes after this round my breeding cages will be packed away and my smaller aviary will become flight space so some will move, so it will be back to 50ish in the big one then anyway even if I got some extra now and breed a few
