  1. How do you know he is only talking to himself? The fact that he chatters away means he is behaving like he is part of a flock and you are his flock. When you talk or whistle he stops to listen, this isn't necessarily a bad thing and is a very common way for budgies to react.
  2. How did you spell it? It's not even the same spelling is it? Let me try Niga, ********* .......He he....................................correct speling works ............^ ....................................................................^ Yes correct spelling mate
  3. That's a good idea, might put some gauze over it to make it softer though I'm going away and back on Friday so I'll do it as soon as I get back so I can keep a close eye on things and change the splint regulary if it is getting dirty.
  4. Maybe he just doesn't ike the whistle. Have you tried making the little chirp noise by sucking air between your teeth and lip? Bribery is great, keep a piece of millet in your pocket and offer it every time he comes to you
  5. okay what are you putting in your seed Neat that is only suitabe for a MA 16+ udience?
  6. I did think about that Kaz and I might give it a try but things I was reading suggested that it is good for them to have something to grip onto
  7. I am thinking that the best option for my chick with the wonky feet might be a correction now while she is still growing. Her toes are twisting sideways but her ankles seem fine so I just want to splint her toes. At this stage I am thinking maybe strapping a piece of paddle pop stick to the bottom of each foot with her toes in the correct arrangement for a couple of days, check and then do a couple more days if necessary. The research I have done suggests that five days is a reasonable amount of time for minor corrections such as dislocations and won't affect the use of the limb, I plan to dose her up on Calcivet during the treatment to encourage her bones to strengthen in that position. Do you think she will still be able to get around in the box like this or would I be better to take her out and hand raise her during the treatment? She is three weeks now(I think off the top of my head) so certainly big enough for hand rearing if necessary. Her sister is similar but not as bad so if it works well for this one I'll repeat the treatment for her younger sibling. Anyway thoughts would be great, especially if someone has another system that works better.
  8. Don't forget also that a dark colour will get hot in the summer sun. You could go with a very pale grey or green it won't show up the dirt as much but will still be cool under foot and make it look larger We had dark grey on the balcony at our old house and it was very hot in summer
  9. Just throw half a cup in the nest box with the babies and spread it out a little
  10. Oohh rolled oats sounds lovely Kaz it would be great for their skin too
  11. I know the vet of which you speak I think (he's sth african?) and he is very good. He will do everything he can but also recognises that there are limits to what people can justify spending on a bird that may have a porr prognosis anyway. You did a good thing for this bird and you should be commended for caring enough to have her seen and spending as much on her as you did when you had her for such a short period of time
  12. More often it is simply the stress of being moved that sets off something that was dormant. If the stress continues they will get worse but if you can control that stress and support their immune system there is a good chance they will recover well without the needs for drugs
  13. Good idea I never had any problems with it thankfully but I know many members of my old club would struggle with it occasionally
  14. At this stage if they are looking substantially better I would keep them warm and let them recover without the psittavet if you can't get them to a suitable vet. There is something to be said for letting the imune system take over if it's already doing a good job if you ask me
  15. The one I have purchased is Bragg brand, it's organic with the mother still in it. I got it from a supplement type shop. They didn't sell health foods just vitamins and natural remedies, etc
  16. You don't have to have a budgie to stay here, you just have to want to talk about them
  17. Can anyone tell me whether there is a product which is suitable for taping injuries, etc which won't stick really hard to the soft skin on their feet?
  18. Personally I reckon even $50 is overpriced, I sell my tame babies whether I hand raise them or not for $20 each, no different for some colours, etc, the only ones I will charge more for are my crested and only because they are more expensive for me to breed as the success rate for actually crested chicks is variable. $35 for an untamed pet bird :hap: I sell mine for $10!
  19. Trish is quite isolated compared to us big city folk :hap: Elly. A trip to an avian vet would just about have to be an overnight stay unless you wanted to drive all day. If the vents aren't poopy yet you may have got it in time. Even if they perk up a bit tomorrow keep the light on them to help them recover. It would be good if you can get some organic apple cider vinegar and some real raspberry cordial to have in the cupboard for times like this. If they are still not looking any better by tomorrow it might be worth doing a ring around of all your local vets and seeing if anyone is atleast reasonably confident with birds. It might mean having to test a few out as some will say they are when they aren't really. One thing you can do is call a local poultry farm if there is one or even a local pigeon racing or poultry club and see who they recommend
  20. Elly he did say it had womens troubles so I'm guessing eggbound or similiar :hap:
  21. Keep a very close eye on the others and also avoid breathing feather dust, etc. The main worry in this situation is psitticosis
  22. Oh and clarification of the mouse/rat trap thing from Neat, the presence of these isn't a bad thing it means rodents are being controlled. Unfortunately aviaries are very attractive to rodents as an easy source of food and for many breeders (myself included) they are a constant battle, especially at this time of year. Good list Neat
  23. Heritage red looks nice with most decor We have it on our patio out the back, our place is also pale brick with black metal window frames and terracotta coloured concrete(painted paving)
  24. Gardenings great for 'time out' I reckon, I find it one of the most relaxing things. Have a great time picking your plants
  25. Really Jenene you know we love you, but we need photos
