The Sale Of Unweaned Birds
Please note that is an American article. It is actually illegal here to sell a bird which cannot feed itself. I'm not saying it's well policed but that's the law

How Long To Wait After Moult
I have a hen who I'm keen to breed, she's just finishing her moult now, she still has a few pin feathers but they are not blood filled any more just not preened open yet. She's in great nick otherwise, plenty of meat on her (actually a little tubby methinks ) and very perky. How long should I wait before putting her down?

I have now got a cinnamon spangle hen in mind for him/her/it I'm going to catch a couple of hens out of the aviary tomorrow and make a decision on who would suit. Would love to hear thoughts on what I should look for in a mate.

Baby Duck With Budgies?
This isn't a discusion about licencing for pets though, it is a discussion about licensing yourself to care for and release wild animals, a past time that costs the people who do it A LOT of money for only the knowledge that you have been able to return an animal to the wild. The license is not just a license like it is for pet birds it is a certification that you have undertaken the necessary training to care for the animals. Being a wildlife carer is a tough and often heartbreaking job so please don't discount it as just another one of the hoops that the pet industry must jump through as it is completely unrelated.

1 + 1 = ?
JB and I have been discussing the lacewings sex. It seems to me to have lighter rings around the nostrils but we're going to try putting it with a hen incase as it's certainly not doing anything at the moment. Pretty sure the spangle isn't opaline

Baby Duck With Budgies?
I'd just like to clarify that you are OF COURSE allowed to care for the animal until you can get it to a registered carer but locating a carer is something that is expected to be done quickly, especially given there are arrangements in place for animals to be picked up from the finder if transport is an issue.

Baby Duck With Budgies?
Having a tough day DrNat? The concern is not whether Lil' is capable of learning to look after the duck but it is a large fine if she is found to be looking after it without a licence. The licence isn't simply a piece of paper, it requires you to do a years worth of training under the guidance of an experienced wildlife carer to ensure that you have not only have the ability to care for the animal properly but also how to care for it in such a way as to allow it to be released back into the wild in the future successfully.

What Mutation Is This Guy?
He is an opaline spangle. The opaline gene causes the green to wash through the wing markings like that :bluebudgie:

Baby Duck With Budgies?

Genetics Calculators
The problem with claculators is that they give you every possible outcome which in the case of a pair carrying lots of mutations can result in a long list with small odds of each appearing, I prefer to just know the basic genetics which covers most results and anything else I get is a lovely surprise

Is Diarrhoea Always Bad?
If it's just oneor two might just be that he has drunk lots of water, has he had fresh food as this could do it too.

Baby Duck With Budgies?
For any wild animal you must have a permit to keep it as and raise it and it must then be returned to the wild, having them stay in your pool isn't the same thing so no issue there Hills.

Incubating Eggs Artificially
If it is a cold day you can warm the seed in the microwave but only for ten seconds or so and check it with a thermometer before putting the eggs in, if you can be very careful you can hold them gently in your hand while the seed warms to keep them warm if it's a very cold day and you are worried about them chilling
-
Incubating Eggs Artificially
It's not the incubating that's hard but the chick raising, it is rare that a chick will survive being handraised from birth. Personally I would dispose of the eggs if that were to happen as it would be a lot of work for most likely only dead chicks.

Baby Duck With Budgies?
Elise are you aware that as a wild duck you must possess a licence to raisethis baby, it is illegal for you to keep it.
