  1. Been out the back with a torch and a tape to try and work out what to do. The aviary isn't deep enough to put a divider in with breeding cabinets behind it so I am back to square one. I know I can just put them against the back wall and leave the whole area open. I did this in my last aviary and it seemed to work. Then again I most likely did a lot of things back then that wouldn't be considered right these days. Problems
  2. Really good thread Daz but I doubt my breeding cages will look this flash.
  3. I don't have a pergola where I can do that. Need to do some measuring in the next few days as I think I can partition a section off the back of the aviary with a door where I can set up six cabinets just like in your photo above.
  4. Managed to get home early enough to take a few photos. Here is the result of yesterdays work. The base frame is treated pine and the timber floor is formply. The base is held down by two veranda posts concreted in and bolted to the frame. As you can see I had to lift one end for the flow of the ground. This makes it not sealed at the bottom so vermin can't hide underneath. Still a few screws to go in around the aviary then the mesh goes on. Trying to work out how I can put a few breeding cabinets at the back. Seems there may be room so working on it. Might make a seperator out of the same aluminium Daz did his flights with. Have seen it at Bunnings. Looking good.
  5. I didnt buy it. Decided to complete the aviary setup first.
  6. Just came in from outside. The dark beat me. The base is down and fixed and the complete aviary frame is finished except for the mesh. Going to be tied up over the weekend so wont get to completely finish it until next week. I never knew I had so many muscles that could all ache at the same time. Was a bit difficult on my own.
  7. Neat Have a look here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=11715
  8. "If I catch you watching Budgie p-o-r-n on the net again George I am going to rip your eyes out."
  9. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Not getting a very positive response here. Appreciate that though. I have previosly had terrific results with colony breeding and have never lost a bird through fighting. I have even used very large lengths of bamboo with 2" holes cut in it for nesting boxes. Apart from fighting what other reasons do people have against it.
  10. Green is my favourite color as you can see by my website http://www.aussiecampovencook.com/ It's not about budgies though.
  11. Only painting the wooden base and it's a green The aviary itself is green colorbond.
  12. I have been giving some thought to what sort of birds I am going to start off on and due to the size of my aviary I won't have a breeding room and will most likely just do some colony breeding for a while. I am going to have up to a max 10 pairs in the aviary. I have always loved the Australiaqn Dominant Pied, especially the light greens. What I am considering is buying some reasonable select dominant pied cocks and an equal number of reasonable hens and just let them go for it. Appreciate your thoughts.
  13. Timber, screws, nails, rivets, paint, aviary kit ........................... It's all here and now they have forecast rain for the next few days. :hap:

Still not sure Are you saying that you have normal wood nesting boxes and you put ice cream containers inside them.
  18. According to their website you just need to be a member of the ABS to buy their rings. THis is what I am finding confusing.

George Have you got any photos. I always find it intriguing when people come up with different ideas. Thanks
  20. I am somewhat confused. Hoping someone can help me out here. I have been having a look through the Australian Budgerigar Society website http://www.absbudgie.com/ as they meet close by to me here. However I looked at their membership form and one of the questions asked is "Parent Club" & "Year Of Membership" I always thought the ABS was a budgerigar club itself. Do you need to be a member of a local club as well as the ABS. Thanks in advance
  21. The CD turned up in the mail today. Been browsing through it. Worth every cent. Derek
  22. Thanks for that. I was aware of Budgerigar World but wasn't sure about an Aussie Publication. I think there used to be one years ago but it must have fallen away.
  23. Is there an Australian magazine published specifically relating to keeping budgerigars.

I have never seen that design before but it is just about a mirror of what I thought of doing however witrh three outside flights and not two
  25. PIcked up two sheets of ply for the floor today. Getting closer all the time. Derek
