I'm New!
Welcome to the BBC forum, hope you enjoy your time here. Make yourself at home, I did... How big is your aviary? I would imagine that it is not ideal breeding conditions and the budgies can sense that... I know that the majority of people here don't colony breed because they have had trouble... and that is only with budgies in the aviary... add tiels and lovebirds to the mix and I don't know how successful you are going to be... i don't know how tiels and Lovebirds mate but for the budgies you need to remember you have 8 birds, I'm going to guess 4 male 4 female... that means you need at least 8 nest boxes at the same height just for the budgies... and that is just for the budgies... add to that mix the tiels breeding... I would imagine the same applies to them so thats 2 more nest boxes. I'm not trying to dishearten you, but I would consider the cost and then you might find you'd be better off buying/making a breeding cage (wire or wooden) and then you only need to buy 5 nest boxes in stead of 10... you don't have to breed all at the same time if you don't want... Just my thoughts, I just think its a fairly dangerous mix breeding tiels and budgies together, and on top of that having lovebirds in there... breeding tends to bring out the protective side in the parents, they might all get along fine now but add to that the thought of babies... and it could be quite explosive... Good luck and like I said, welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy yourself here... lots of great people with great advice...

Has Anyone Ever Imported Birds Into Australia
I agree, I'm sure the breeders here in Australia would love it if you bought birds from them for that much, but like you say if its the same price, or better to buy from oversea's why not diversify the gene pool by bringing in new stock...

Newbie!
you've got a great variety there. very cute. Just for future reference, when you get a new bird it is good to quarantine for at least 30 days, avian vets recommend 60 I think, just so that if they have any health issues it will not be past onto your flock... you'll find that people here are pretty adiment about doing it because some have lost a big majority of there flock from illness before. Its to late for your new ones to be taken out but just try to remember next time. Hope you enjoy your time here at the BBC forums. look forward to seeing lots more of you and your budgies around here

Split Ring V Club Ring
Not sure if I'm allowed to create a poll but I figured I'll ask... How many people use club rings and how many use split rings? Those that use split rings, why and those that don't why not? I know you can't show with split but are there any other reasons? Is it worth joining a club just to get the rings if you don't want to show breed??
