  1. I am so not good with breeding expectations so I can't tell you how they'd end up, sorry. They look good though
  2. Welcome to the BBC forum, hope you enjoy your time here. Make yourself at home, I did... How big is your aviary? I would imagine that it is not ideal breeding conditions and the budgies can sense that... I know that the majority of people here don't colony breed because they have had trouble... and that is only with budgies in the aviary... add tiels and lovebirds to the mix and I don't know how successful you are going to be... i don't know how tiels and Lovebirds mate but for the budgies you need to remember you have 8 birds, I'm going to guess 4 male 4 female... that means you need at least 8 nest boxes at the same height just for the budgies... and that is just for the budgies... add to that mix the tiels breeding... I would imagine the same applies to them so thats 2 more nest boxes. I'm not trying to dishearten you, but I would consider the cost and then you might find you'd be better off buying/making a breeding cage (wire or wooden) and then you only need to buy 5 nest boxes in stead of 10... you don't have to breed all at the same time if you don't want... Just my thoughts, I just think its a fairly dangerous mix breeding tiels and budgies together, and on top of that having lovebirds in there... breeding tends to bring out the protective side in the parents, they might all get along fine now but add to that the thought of babies... and it could be quite explosive... Good luck and like I said, welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy yourself here... lots of great people with great advice...
  3. Its all coming along well... look forward to seeing it finished.
  4. cute little budgie you've got there... like kaz said another room is best otherwise 5 m away... good luck with the new addition.
  5. why do you need to import pigeons??? Anyone wishing to purchase them let me know, I'll get you them by the hundreds... no I don't breed them... I will just take a big net and some seed in the city...
  6. hmmm... sorry I don't know... sounds interesting though.
  7. The biggest concern I have with Club rings is putting them on... I don't want to break a birds leg or anything... is it difficult to do? i like your idea throwback... saves you running back to the computer every 2 minutes trying to figure out which is split for what...
  8. I agree, I'm sure the breeders here in Australia would love it if you bought birds from them for that much, but like you say if its the same price, or better to buy from oversea's why not diversify the gene pool by bringing in new stock...
  9. So cute!!!
  10. wow.. good thing the greenback is collapsing in a heap... Cheap Playstation 3 coming up!!! lol. Is there a budgie breeding game out there for it?? hmmm...

i like the idea of lime... hopefully that would soak a bit of the moisture up... good luck with the clean up, I don't envy you...
  12. As long as he's eating the other food that you put in for him and he is getting a variety I wouldn't be to worried... unless you can't keep up the supply of branches then I would consider not putting so many in...
  13. Great pics dave, love the green faced mutation...
  14. A budgie couldn't fly from the front of the house to the back if its wings were clipped could it??
  15. They are great pictures... isn't Australia a great country such beautiful landscapes.... Even the side of an old tin shed is pretty in the picture. Its pictures like this that make me realise life is to short to not enjoy it.

you've got a great variety there. very cute. Just for future reference, when you get a new bird it is good to quarantine for at least 30 days, avian vets recommend 60 I think, just so that if they have any health issues it will not be past onto your flock... you'll find that people here are pretty adiment about doing it because some have lost a big majority of there flock from illness before. Its to late for your new ones to be taken out but just try to remember next time. Hope you enjoy your time here at the BBC forums. look forward to seeing lots more of you and your budgies around here
  17. I'm not really sure what to expect when I get there... should be interesting.
  18. Not sure if I'm allowed to create a poll but I figured I'll ask... How many people use club rings and how many use split rings? Those that use split rings, why and those that don't why not? I know you can't show with split but are there any other reasons? Is it worth joining a club just to get the rings if you don't want to show breed??
  19. Where do you hear about the upcoming shows in melbourne?
  20. Hey Cara, welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it here. There is lots of useful information everywhere here. Sorry to hear about Auzzie...
  21. :offtopic:I've never seen a red rump grown... what do they look like?
  22. interesting to look inside the minds of show breeders... I don't know if I could get rid of a nice looking bird just because it didn't meet the standard...
  23. If you do a search there is a thread called Book Review, there are a couple of books listed in there that I have found helpful...
