I had one like this too. Well at first it was the dark brown so i put it in a cabinet with a male and then it turned bright blue exactly like yours and i thought i had put to boys together but after i took her out and put her in the flight it changed back and she laid an egg! So i would say hen also.

I started giving my budgies a container full of seed and found the same problem. They cant get to the seed underneath all the husks and it would last around 3 days anyway. So now i will give them a chinese container of seed around 1 cm high which will last them that day. Its easier because you can see when they have finished there is no blowing or swishing to find the seed underneath. You just dump the whole lot and start again. Or you get a quail and let them pick through all the birds left overs!

Some breeders swear that it comes down to humidity, or more to the point lack of it. Has it been dry the past 10 days where you are? I also think that some hens have a tendency to sit too tight on the eggs. A good mum will put aside an eggs that is about to hatch and many hens assist with the hatching process. But some hens are just too inexperienced and haven't figured it out yet. Is the hen in question a maiden hen? I am not sure i got her when i brought the aviary so i do not know how old she is. She probably did sit to tight on the eggs though because she has a problem with her leg so she likes to stay in the box all day. I am just really upset by it because the parents are both spangles so i was crossing my fingers for a df spangle and they ALL completely formed and i saw them start to hatch i got all excited and then nothing.
  7. I think i have one in the nest at the moment i cant take any pictures because its FREEZING but i will try tommorow the "bleeding" is not as bad as the yf blues on mine anyway, It just has some spots of green ontop of the grey?

And then what???? Do you just scoop it up? Is it just so the poo doesnt stick to the cement? Forgive me i am blonde!
  9. Thanks dave for taking "BETTE" she wasnt very happy here she just seemed to stay in the nest box all the time. She has come a long way from when i first got her, her cere had a hole in it from scaley face she had two babies at the time and both died as they had red mites! It was quite a horrible place to be and because of that she is not very sociable. Anyways thats why i offered her to you dave because i know she will go well with all the other misfits. Thanks again
  10. I have a baby budgie that was an "only child" and it is now 6 weeks old and reluctant to leave the nest box it comes out every now and then and sits on the bottom in the corner. My question is should i remove it and put it in a seperate cage? I am trying to handtame it. It is eating by itself but also being fed by the parents aswell.

I never heard the babies chirp. I candled them and saw that they had broken through the air pocket they were like this for 24 hours still moving and everything but they didnt even attempt to chip the shell there were no holes in it at all? I have once tried to open the egg and help out and he died quite quickly afterwards. I think i would rather it die in the shell by itself then for me to help and then for it to die afterwards because I would blame myself?

I have a pair of budgies that successfully laid 4 eggs all were fertile and each one has died in the process of hatching??? WHY??? It seems as though the shell is too thick or something!! I know it is cold now and there is a higher risk of dis but i am just wondering in case it maybe the hen or cock that have a problem? The babies were perfectly formed and made it into the air sack but died there. Does anyone have any ideas?
  13. Can i come and work with you Neat???? I dont know what they do to there birds to make them look this way. But hang on a second neat.......... You went bird hunting with out me????? Thats it! Our friendship is over!!! Lol you will be forgiven if you come to the next meeting with me

  23. I CAUGHT SOMETHING ELSE!!!! MY 3 YEAR OLD SON! I took him in to hold some of the babies and i turned my back and then i heard a SNAP!!! He had his little thumb stuck! I freaked out and pulled it off thinking it would be broken and i said "where is it sore?"and he said "on my foot." So obviously it didnt hurt that bad! i offered him a lolly and he stopped straight away! I think it was a little bit of luck that it got him in the right place because i have seen them go off and they would snap a bone in a second!
  24. You have a beautiful mixture there lovely colours. My favourite is big blue aswell.
  25. I clean the cages every second day (my hubby hates it because it takes me all day!) i have pavers on the floor and there is colourbond on all sides of the aviary so it is clean enough and safe but they found the only crack in the pavers and came through it they are soooo clever. That soft drink bottle trick is great i will be using that one! thanks
