  1. Your birds are very pretty, great colours going on there!
  2. Hi, I have and albino cock and I want to put him with a opaline lacewing hen. I don't know if either bird is split or masking anything so if they are what they are, what would the likely outcome be for them? I know I won't get lacewings or opaline offspring unless the cock is split for either. Will I get all albino chicks? This is only a test mating so I can see what happens. But I was just hoping to get some sort of idea on what will happen. Thanks heaps
  3. Your birds are gorgeous...the white one (double factor spangle is he?) had such feather length as a baby it reminds more of hair than feathers.

Welcome to the forum...your budgies are very cute. I'll leave it up to the experts to inform you of mutations. ENJOY :glare:
  5. That was interesting reading Dr Nat...and anything's possible, especially when it comes to nature.
  6. You have very pretty birds. I'm a big fan of blues. You could name the unamed budgie Bluey just so he doesn't feel left out and it doesn't require a lot of effort for the thought.
  7. I'm sorry to hear of your losses. I have no experience with anything like your going through but I hope things improve soon. Good Luck.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Your birds are pretty.
  9. Her iris rings are present and quite bright. It's the best photo I could do. Just got a look at her legring it reads WA JAG X8 410, white writing on black ring. Don't know what all that means so any help would be great. She's very jumpy, will she eat eventually? I don't think it'll be good if she goes much longer without food. I'm getting a little worried.
  10. I'm pretty sure she is a lacewing, but can anyone tell me how old she is please? I was told she is possibly over 12 months of age but I can't tell. She certainly doesn't have a baby face. And another question she doesn't appear to be eating...what can I do about that and how long will she go without food? Will she eventually decide to eat? She is very jumpy and unsettled. I've had her since monday afternoon. Thanks :hi:
  11. I didn't know budgies shared like this...it'll be interesting to see how they go as their babies appear. They do seem quite content in that photo though. All the best with them I hope they continue to be good.
  12. Hi, just wanted to say that unfortunately on Easter Sunday Shya passed away. I'm totally stunned because from the time I got her she has not shown any signs of being ill apart from her weight. She was fine on Saturday, she spent the day outside getting some sun and freshair. I've done this off and on the entire time I've had her. Sunday morning we woke up and she was fluffed up. I put her cage near a window to get some nice warm sunshine but she was out of the way of any breeze. She managed to eat some seed though she was very quiet. That night when we came home from visiting family she was gone. I don't understand why she went down so fast. She'd been on medication for 10 days and seemed to be doing fine. Why did she seem the most ill when she was on medication? Why did she die so quickly? My daughter is totally devestated, Shya was her favourite and was really bonded with her. I just don't understand why it happened so fast!

They are very cute Pearce. I'm not a huge fan of green but that first one is so pretty. And the pied is gorgeous too.
  14. Sorry Cinder didn't make it...
  15. You've been very lucky with petshop buys Emma. I wish I could score like that . I've never been keen on grey birds but the yf greys are interesting and I simply love your dom pied. They are one of my favourites along with spangles, opalines and opaline spangles. It'll be interesting to see what you get from them. I've got a funny feeling that budgie addicts wouldn't have an easy time of withdrawal if one wanted to try giving up.

Hi and welcome Ian, I'm also in Forrestfield. Look forward to photos.
  17. I'm going to go with boy...but I don't know much. I have trouble sexing ino's too. My albino has just been confirmed male after months of me thinking he was a she.
  18. Very cute little fella  and definitely a deserving win.
  19. Hi, I just put in a new water dispenser for the birds. I'm trying to cut down the soiling of the water. But yesterday the birds were actually trying to bathe in the little drinking outlet. So I got out the spray bottle for them and they went absolutely beserk over it rubbing themselves all over the wire while I sprayed them. Here's some pics for you to look at, they are so cute and funny and wet. I love looking at all the pics that other people put up so I thought someone might want to check out mine. Enjoy These ones are of Zaffie actually trying to bathe in the drinking outlet before I brought out the spray bottle, funny as heck. This is Mocha rubbing herself over the wire while I sprayed her. This is Billie This is Lacey This is Ledger This is Elmo looking very indignant as he got wet only because the other birds did. This is Samuel who was cursing all the other birds for wanting a bath cause I'm pretty sure he didn't. And this is Casper who pretty much feels the same as Elmo and Casper...must be a boy thing!

    Nice big fat MUDCAKE Pearce...
  21. Hi, thanks heaps Liv, you've taken a weight of my mind. I've been so worried. I'm going to try the apple cider vinegar today. What sort of strength in the water should it be?
  22. dek21 replied to **Liv**'s topic in Budgie Pictures
That's a lot of feathers Liv!!!!!! And my birthday too is in April...the 21st. Wow people do get busy in April...ha ha ha! I might sound silly asking, but why put a chicken carcass in the aviary? It sounds a bit cannibalistic to me.
  23. I was having a bit of a look at this megabacteria...very unpleasant stuff from what I've read. But now I have a problem. When I thought Shya had finished her quarantine of 4 weeks my 14 yo daughter (who does all the handling of the birds) excitedly put her with the other birds with my permission. It wasn't till after she'd done this that she mentioned that she was still skinny. I did question her as to 'how skinny'. But you know kids she really couldn't explain it to me. So I told her to get the bird back out and I'd have a look. She did and she was still skinny so I told her to put her back in her quarantine cage for a little longer and we'd try to fatten her up. That was when I wormed her and left her to hopefully put weight on. A little while after I came on here to question as to why she wasn't putting weight on since we did all this and try and work out what was going wrong. My question is...the brief time (approx. 10-15 min) in the aviary with the other birds, was it enough time to infect the other birds as well and do I need to treat them also? I had completely forgotton that we'd done this until my daughter mentioned it this afternoon when we were talking about Shya's trip to the vet. From what I've read it's possible to get the treatment yourself without going to a vet. It cost me $110 for one bird today and I've got another 10. It's going to be damn expensive to do them all. Can someone help me with a less expensive way of doing the treatment if I have to treat them all? I love my birds but my budget will not allow me 10 treatments with a vet. If anyone can give me advice on what to do I'd appreciate it. I'm totally devestated that I've made such a grave mistake and put all my birds at risk. Shya just never seemed sick and I suppose if I was more experienced I would've thought something major was wrong and investigated further. Unfortunately we learn from our mistakes, but I'm hoping that this lesson will not cost me the lives of my birds. Thanks for any help
  24. Just a quick update on Shya...I finally got around to getting her to the vet today. And she has a fungal infection...some sort of thing that eats at their stomach lining. Can't remember what the vet called it but I'm pretty sure I can't pronounce it anyway. She's now on medication and has to be kept separate for at least another 3 months to make sure the infection is completely eradicated. The vet said she should start putting on weight pretty quickly now that she's being treated. Hopefully she'll make a full recovery as she is a very pretty little bird and she is fast becoming one of my favourites.
  25. My real name is Derricka and I've been Dek for a number of years. Throughout my childhood I was Duck. I thought Dek was a good upgrade. And 21 is my birthday. EASY PEASY!!!! Especially with a memory like mine.
