My New Children
I picked these two up yesterday and wanted to show them off. I was very naughty as I'm not meant to get any more but it was truly love at first sight. Called him Elmo. I think it's a him. That's what the lady I bought him off said, but young though. I also picked up this hen. She is actually not blue but a beautiful violet/purple. But I could not get the camera to pick the colour up for some reason. She currently remains unnamed. I also am including some recent photos of Billi and Oscars babies. This is the eldest. We've named him Milo. We've called this one Zafaran, Zaffi for short. I think she is a she and a Lutino? And this is the youngest, a cinnamon wing...I think? We've named her Mocha. Hope you enjoy looking at my lovelies, as I can't stop watching them myself!

Rollilng Over And Lying On Back On The Ground
Yeah I've seen this too! My Oliver did this once but he had his little bell ball clutched in his claw and it looked like he was wrestling. My daughter and I laughed ourselves silly when we seen it. It was so cute! To this day we stalk him with the video camera in the hopes that he'll do it again, but as yet we haven't been lucky enough to catch him. Or maybe he just knows we're waiting and has decided not to give us any reason to laugh at him. Someone always has to spoil the party. Oh well, we live in hope!!

Leaving The Nest
Hi there, could someone tell me if it's normal that baby budgies lose some of their weight when they fly from the nest? I've noticed that the two youngest are a bit skinny. Their breast bone seems quite prominent but I'm unsure of how much it should feel like that. They appear healthy and active and their poops appear normal. We have been supplementing their meals with baby mix but they don't appear to want much of it. The parents still appear to be feeding them, so I thought maybe because they are so big now that it's getting harder for the parents to keep up with the amount of feed that they need. I'm unsure of how much I should be worried, even if I should be worried at all. The eldest is only 5 weeks today and appears to be doing really well but we can't catch him at the moment as his parents are too protective and he is right at the top of the cage and I don't want to traumatise him too much as it will be really awkward to get to him. Should I just keep checking them day by day and still supplement their feedings or will they be okay? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Billie & Oscar Have Babies Again
Hi, just wanted to drop in and add some updated photos of the babies. This is the eldest. I think she is a girl but not sure (still learning how to sex babies) and not that successful at it. She is the same colouring as her big brother Oliver only her blue colouring is darker. Still very pretty though. She is not quite 5 weeks old and has already flown out of the nest box. Is this normal? This is the lutino (I hope). I think he is a boy, but we'll wait and see. This is the little cinnamon. I think this one is a boy too but again, I'll see what the experts say. The pictures aren't all that great and you can't see it in the picture but he has faint yellow colouring over the white and blue colouring down his back and tail. Very handsome little boy I think anyway. The following photo shows up very yellow but he's not that bright. It's my camera's fault. Sorry.

Billie & Oscar Have Babies Again
Hi again, just wanted to show some updated photos of our babies. The following photo is of the little redeyed one, a lutino, is that right? Any idea if the lutino is a boy or girl. I refer to her as a girl as I think she is too pretty to be a boy. The other two photos shows the 3 of them together. The eldest having similar colouring to their big brother Oliver and the youngest is an undetermined colour. I hope you enjoy the photos. More to come as they colour up some more.

Billie & Oscar Have Babies Again
Hi there everyone, it's been awhile since I was on, but I thought I would let you see our new additions. We have four little babies. They are so cute. Three of them have dark eyes, I know I read about it somewhere, but what is the meaning of the dark eyes? The fourth one has red eyes, does that mean it is albino? And also I wanted to introduce my new little buddy Samuel. My friend who was sick, recently passed away and she left me her budgie. He is a lovely little green and yellow boy. And yes I did the quarrantine trick with him. We are currently trying to befriend him as he hasn't been handled much. Very slow process but we are persevering with him. After Billie and Oscar retire after this clutch, I am thinking about breeding Samuel. Have to find him a good looking girlfriend though.

Egg Laying
Hi there people, its been awhile since I was here. Billie and Oscar are breeding again and they currently have 7 eggs in the nest. She laid a clutch of 3 eggs starting on the 23rd May. No results in hatching and I broke one of the eggs that was fertile. I left an infertile egg in with the other egg and we were expecting the final egg to hatch on the 10 June. This didn't happen but she had a break and started laying again on the 4 June. We had a egg hatch on the 17 June but this date didn't match any of our data as we'd been writing everything down. Unfortunately that baby died the next day. We're not sure where he came from as we were really consistant on writing our info down correctly and his hatching date doesn't match our other dates. They currently have 7 eggs in the nest which makes a total of 10 eggs layed since they started laying on the 23 May. According to our dates we're expecting a hatching sometime tomorrow as I am positive that at least 5 out of the eggs are fertile. I think the baby that hatched last week died because we had a bit of a cold spell and Billie is still inexperienced. How can I give the eggs a better chance of survival. Billie and Oscar are such good parents and their only living offspring Oliver is going brilliantly. I look forward to some help as I am looking forward to more babies. Thanks

Update Of Our Baby Budgie
Thanks everyone. He's recovering perfectly! Eating like a herd of horses (gaining all the weight he lost I'm sure!) He's back to his old happy self! He can't stop chirping away at us and telling big stories about his ordeal (I'm pretty sure that's what all the noise is about). Ha ha ha I think he gets a kick out of sucking all the sympathy he can out of us. He's lucky I'm still feeling guilty about what happened. Ha ha ha! Anyway thanks again!

Update Of Our Baby Budgie
hello everyone, just wanted to tell you that Oliver nearly died. We rushed him to the vet when he collapsed on Wednesday morning. He was slowly starving to death. We thought he was eating as he always seemed to be, but actually wasn't and we couldn't tell the difference. He'd lost all his weight. The vet told me it's quite a common problem when babies are taken away from their parents too early. But I thought I was doing the right thing when his mother started to beat him up. And on a bright note we picked him back up today from the vets and he's doing beautifully. We're watching him carefully now that we know what to look for. It was so scary...poor little man! :hap: I'm so glad I've got my little mate back home as he has such a gorgeous personality.

Deformed Budgie Beak
Just wanted to let you know that unfortunately the vet recommended this little bird be put down as her condition was too bad. :hap: I ended up taking her to the vet as my friend was too ill. She's completely devastated that she neglected her so badly.

Deformed Budgie Beak
Thanks for your replies. I'll let my friend know. If I could have taken her straight away I would've. I hadn't seen her birds in quite some time and I was devestated when I seen this little one. I'll let you know how she goes as I've never seen anything like it before. I feel so bad that I'd hadn't noticed before but they're not my birds...with your own you notice something like this and you fix it. Hopefully it won't be too late for her and I've already decided that I'm going to ask my friend for both of them as I don't think she can offer them the care they need now. Unfortunately my friend is dying of cancer. I know this is off topic but I just want you to know that she isn't an evil person and that the negligence that is current is so not her. I'm not offering any excuses...just an explanation. I hope you all understand and I promise to do my best for her budgies.

Deformed Budgie Beak
Hi, the following pics are of my friends budgie. In the last few months her beak has become overgrown and deformed. She still manages to eat well and has not lost any noticeable condition. Does anyone know about her condition? My friend is considering putting her to sleep. But I told her to give me a chance to find out something. Would that option be the kindest. She has tried to trim the beak back and did succeed to some degree. I hope the following pics are visible...I have also posted a link to a video I took. I hope it all works. Sorry if I sized the video wrong. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg257/d...32008_008_1.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg257/d...032008_005_.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg257/d...032008_007_.jpg The following is the video, hope the vision is okay. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg257/dek21/th_20032008002.jpg

Update Of Our Baby Budgie
Hi nicknack, is that cheque made up of doughnuts...ha ha ha!! And I'm pretty sure I'd have a fight on my hands if I tried to take him away from my daughter. And yes I think he's a pretty boy too. And his name is Oliver (Ollie for short). I've just removed him from his parents as his mother was being quite rough with him. I don't know if this is normal or not but I didn't like it so now he's inside with us.

Update Of Our Baby Budgie
hi, hope these photos are okay. I think he must be close to being 6 weeks. I'll just watch him for the next couple of days and then I'll move him into another cage for my daughter. Thanks for all the info, i do appreciate it.

Update Of Our Baby Budgie
Hi Kaz, is baby a boy then? When I posted photos when she/he was younger I was told hen. In your last post you say boy...but you refer to her when you tell me about taking her away from her parents. Does that mean you're unsure? Don't want to sound rude, just don't want to call a boy a girl's name and vice versa. Ha ha ha Thanks :hap:

Update Of Our Baby Budgie
Hi everyone, just thought I'd post some new photos of Billie and Oscar's baby. We've named her Millie. She's out of the box now and exploring her bigger world. And she's as cute as and as pretty as a picture. We didn't expect her to be such a pretty colour. It was a nice surprise. When can I remove her from her parents as my daughter would like to have her inside and hand tame her? Thanks

Cleaning Cages
Hi all, I've just bought a second hand wood aviary and was wondering what would be the best thing to clean it with? I don't want to risk my babies getting sick so how long can I leave it before using? Any info would be appreciated. I've decided to remove any toys or perches but not sure on how to treat the wood frame to ensure no germs or what nots remain. The people I bought it from said it's been out of use for some time now. Will post some pics of the aviary as soon as I can.

My New Boys - Benny & Charlie
Welcome to the forum...but I can't see any pics either! When I click on the link there is a message saying that this picture has been removed or deleted. I don't know why this is but I'll keep checking back to see if you post some more.

Hi New Member
Thanks for your input. I think its so clever that you can name the types. I find it so like a foreign language. I'll keep you updated on the baby and post new photos when she has more feathers. One more thing...Billi will be 4 years at the end of this year, do you think I could breed her again or do you think I'm pushing it. As someone mentioned that 4 yrs is the maximum age hens can breed. She's been such a good mum and this baby is her only one, so I feel I'm ripping her off in some way, but I'm also not willing to risk her health. If I can't breed her, can I retire her without her getting clucky and will she accept retirement now that she knows all about being a mum. Sorry to ask such silly questions.

Hi New Member
Hi ya Kaz, thanks for the info...I really appreciate it. I'm adding a couple more pics of Oscar, hope this helps. On another matter...do you sell your birds? If you do, as pets or show only?

Hi New Member
I love this website...I've read so much that I even guessed right when it came to sexing my baby...and that is a big deal to me because before coming here I knew absolutely nothing. Thank you so much. Now if someone would help tell me what type her parents are I'd really appreciate it. Look forward to any replies. Derricka

Hi New Member
Hi thanks for the welcome. Thanks for moving me to the right spot...I knew I'd get something wrong. Ha ha ha! I did find another egg but it never hatched. No she didn't lay in the basket. I moved her out of the nesting box a week ago when I found cockroaches had infested it and I thought they might make the baby sick so I changed it but when I went to buy another they had none left and I was desperate for something and I thought I could use it. She doesn't seem to have a problem with it. Should I change it back to a nesting box again?
