Budgie Pair Not Creating Family
Hi there, just an update on Samuel and Opal. I tried Renee's idea and removed Samuel. Well, after a 2 day flirtation marathon with Billie I decided to put Samuel back in with Opal. All I can say is Opal definitely missed him and she has been very attentive with Samuel, preening and following him around the aviary. I still have not seen them mate but Opal has shown a great deal more interest in both Samuel and the nestbox and when Samuel goes in the box and squawks for her she follows him in. She's also gotten a lot more active flying around...seems like she's showing off for him, but I don't know. I did read in another thread that Kaz(I think) had done removing the male to interest the female and it seemed to work. I will keep thinking along these lines in the hope that something works. From the day I bought Opal she has never shown any interest in anything and never been all that active. She has always been very aloof and snooty, so seeing her act like a little kid is good. I will in a couple of days try removing Samuel again and see how they go.

Budgie Pair Not Creating Family
Hi there, okay I tried your idea renee. I put samuel in with billie my retired budgie just to see if they would do anything. WELL....you know when you see the car rocking when a couple is getting friendly ...well that's what they're doing to the cage right now. Within 2 minutes (no kidding) billie presented herself and samuel literally went to town. Now I don't want babies with these two so I can just split them up again can't I? So now that I know there's nothing wrong with Samuel it has to be Opal right. Because going by the happy sounds coming from the cage I think samuel is a very randy little bird. So now...what do I do? I've never seen birds like this so I got the shock of my life. Do I have time to get him another girlfriend and breeding before I should stop breeding for summer? Thanks

Budgie Pair Not Creating Family
Okay, Samuel is a green spangle and I think he's in condition as his cere is nice and blue. Maybe these two are just not meant to be a couple. How long before I should give up?

Budgie Pair Not Creating Family
Hi there, okay I've taken on board all thats been said. Photos below. Let me know if there's anything else I can do. There is no wobble in nestbox, it's stable. Should I take out the rope perch as well and leave them only the wood ones. I already removed the rope swing as Opal was spending all her time right up at the top of the cage only coming down to eat. They get fresh leaves every few days and vegies every couple of days. Though Opal doesn't seem interested in her vegies. I've just cleaned out their cage that's why it looks so empty. One more question, why was the old set up okay for my breeding pair then but not okay for this pair now? Sorry if it's a silly question. Thanks

Is This Normal For A Lutino?
He was green when I bought him and he was over 12 months of age. Unfortunately I know nothing about his heritage. The only part I remember seeing to be blue was his tail feathers and they were a darkish blue. So I suppose we'll never know. Thanks for your help

Is This Normal For A Lutino?
Well Elly, when I first joined the forum and put my birds in to find out their mutation I was told Oscar was a greywing only, so I don't know if he is anything else. He obviously has a yellow face but I don't know if that is anything to do with being a yellowface. It would be interesting to know. Knowing if he is or isn't will give you what information?

Is This Normal For A Lutino?
I see what you mean now. Oscar (the dad) I can't remember what his feathers were like ( I can't check as he escaped a while ago, never to return). But Billie (the mum) her feathers near her legs are similar to her body colour maybe a blue tinge to them. I've included current photo, only taken minutes ago. Hopefully this is what you want to know and helps clarify things.

Is This Normal For A Lutino?
Hi there...Elly what do you mean when you say dad looks like mum near legs? I'm sorry I know you're talking genetics here and I know nothing, but I can't see what you're looking at. They weren't the same colouring and they had different coloured feet so could you explain what you mean please. If it's too much to go into don't worry about it. I just want to understand a little better. Is Zaffie a strange combination from these two? And to get Zaffie does that mean the father is split for ino? I still don't understand anything about genetics, but hopefully I'll get there. I love reading posts about genetics it's quite fascinating what you all know. And is being yf or goldenface going to make a difference with her mutation? Thanks

Is This Normal For A Lutino?
Yep, definitely has red eyes. Had to go out and double check, but yes! Thank you so much, I read about creaminos not long after joining the forum and thought wow I want one. And guess what...I got one!!! And I didn't even know it. Now I'm very happy :star:

Is This Normal For A Lutino?
Hi there, just a small question about my lutino Zaffie. Is it normal that her yellow colouring is not even all over? Could it be the yf2 from her mother that's making it uneven? On her wings I can even see dark gold spangle like markings. I've included photos but not sure if I'm seeing things or not. I've seen a few lutinos but none of them are splotchy like Zaffie. Will her colouring get better or is she just an odd job example of a lutino? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Even on her face she has dark gold patches. I hope the photos show what I 'm talking about. Gonna feel a might stupid if I'm the only one who can see it.

Newbies...2 Boys Or Not?
Thanks...part of me is a little disappointed as I'm still down in numbers for boys and now even more so as I still have to even them up. Naughty me for falling in love. Oh well now I have an excuse to shop some more . But she is very pretty and I'm glad I couldn't help myself. We had names picked out for boys but now we'll have to change them. Need something that says how pretty she is...and No I don't want to name her PRETTY. Thanks again.

Newbies...2 Boys Or Not?
Hi there, I just got these two new additions. I bought them off Renee (very lovely lady). Because the spangle is out of condition Renee was not sure if it was a boy or not. But I fell in love with the colouring and bought it anyway. I would really love it if someone could confirm what sex it is. I've got a funny feeling it's a girl but seriously what do I know. I know the opaline is a boy for sure and he is beautiful too. He is currently molting and is only 3 months old. Thanks

Budgie Pair Not Creating Family
Okay it's now the end of October and I still have no action from Samuel and Opal. The nesting box was taken out not long after this post was started and I have now put it back about 2 weeks ago. I think it was out for approximately 4 or 5 weeks. But Opal is just not interested at all. When I first put it back she showed some interest even sticking her head in once. Now my question is could she possibly not want to lay in a previously used nest box? I thoroughly washed it before offering it to these birds. I don't know what to do to encourage them anymore. Should I buy a new nest box? Her cere is probably similar now as when this post was started, just maybe not as dark. Samuel is doing a lot of preening and feeding with her and they seem bonded but I've never seen them mate (not that I watch for it specifically :party0011: ). What can be wrong? Should I give up entirely and split them up? Thanks and any help would be appreciated

Badly Behaved...or Just Normal?
Thanks for your replys. Now the aviary is 90cm high, 60cm deep and 201cm wide. My question is approximately how many budgies could I comfortably keep in it? To even up the numbers I would have to get 3 more boys and that would mean 8 budgies. I'm not sure I want more at the present, but maybe a swap could be arranged if anyone was interested. Any info on the capacity of the aviary would be appreciated. Thanks

Badly Behaved...or Just Normal?
Hi there, just want to ask a question. I have 5 birds in total in an outside aviary...4 girls, 1 boy. Now the two youngest Zaffie and Mocha are only 4 months old but they are harassing the others especially the boy Elmo. They pull at his tail, chase him continuously, peck at him and try and climb on his back (I've noticed that Elmo is also missing some feathers above his cere, I think the girls are doing this too). They also harass each other doing the same things but not so much as him. Is there some way I can stop this or is this just normal for such young birds? I feel his quality of leisure time is being compromised by these two. The other two girls steer clear of Zaffie and Mocha...if I had to describe it I'd say that these two literally rule the roost. How can I make it more harmonious in there? I don't like there behaviour but if this is normal and they'll eventually out grow it that's okay. But if it's not should I split them up? Thanks

Help
Hi there, hand rearing is difficult. When I was hand feeding a 2 day old baby it let me know when it was hungry and I did only feed it when it became restless or began to make noise. It seemed to do really well by that and I had no experience at all with hand feeding. Unfortunately I over heated it in my eagerness to do the right thing and it passed away. I'm pretty sure someone with lots more experience will be on soon to help you. Stay positive... and good luck.

Confirmation Of Type......?
Hi there everyone, I was just wondering what type the following budgie is as the last confirmation was quite sometime ago! She is currently going through a moult and is incredibly feral looking. I know she is cinnamon wing and yellow face but the yellow is now going through all over her body but it is all blotchy and horrible, is this normal? The other budgies similar to this their yellow didn't come out all patchy like Mocha's. Will her colour smooth out all over? Also her pale blue on her tummy area is now a funny grey green colour. She is only 4 months old so what will her ultimate colour be? I hope the photos show well and I look forward to any info. :budgiedance:

Birds Weekend
Pie Can I just say that this one is just special. How come his cheek patches aren't the same? Is this normal for pieds? If so, I want one. I love anything that's unusual and his colouring is. :what: I need me one of these...if you get bored with him I'll happily have him.

Pet Shop Rescues!
Well done, you're an amazing person to be able to do what you've done. All I can say is "Hats off to you, Libby." Now if all pet owners were as great as that there would be no need for any organisations like the RSPCA. And you have earned for your goodness 2 lovely birds to love. Best of luck with them.
