Just Wanting To Confirm Type!
These are our 3 new babies and I was wondering if someone would confirm their type please. This is the youngest and I'm pretty sure she is a hen and I think skyblue rec. pied. We've named her Dora as she is never afraid to have a bit of a sticky beak. This is the middle baby and is I think looking more like a boy. I know he is skyblue spangle and probably YF2 also but is he also rec. pied. I had someone mention he could be dom. but was wanting to confirm. His name is Monster as he's only to pleased to have a bit of a munch on your fingers. And this is the oldest but we already know she's a hen and an albino and looks like YF2. Just wanted to add her for the sake of it. Thanks

How Soon To Throw Away Infertile Eggs?
Thanks for your replies. They are both young, 16 and 17 months of age and first time breeding. They are show type and definitely have more feathers than my pet types. I only breed for my own pleasure, so its not necessary that these two have a clutch I just paired them that way. In regards to plucking I don't actually handle the birds so therefore I'm not capable of plucking. My daughter is the one that does the handling but I'm not sure if she'd have the confidence to do that for them. So without plucking, could they do better if I paired each one to my pet types. So I'll leave the eggs for a bit longer and see how they go. I gave up trying to candle earlier as the hen is very difficult to get out of the box. And it's even worse when the cock gets in as they both attack together. Very unpleasant so we soon got the hint and left them to it.

How Soon To Throw Away Infertile Eggs?
Hi, I have a pair of budgies sitting on 5 eggs. I'm pretty sure they're infertile...the last egg was laid on the 26/8. It's now been 19 days since then so can I safely assume that they are infertile and throw them and if so what is the process? Do I just chuck them all at once or is there some staggered idea on doing this and will the hen be okay with them disappearing so abruptly? She has pretty much been sitting since the first egg was laid. Thanks for any help.

Baby Budgies On The Way...
Neither mum or dad have iris rings. There is no mistaking Mocha's parents but I suppose Casper could be dom pied. If he is why then doesn't he have iris rings? Kaz, can you explain why you think the babies are dom pied please. I just don't know what I'm looking at. I was told Mocha was rec pied last year when I put her on this forum. This is very confusing.

Baby Budgies On The Way...
They are not the babies parents, they are another pair I have down. The babies parents are Casper - Albino and Mocha - YF2 skyblue rec pied cinnamon spangle. (Photos at beginning of post.) Sorry about the confusion.

Baby Budgies On The Way...
Hi, just thought I'd update what Mocha and Caspers babies look like. This is Lemonade, Albino hen and YF2 like her mum. This is the middle baby. Looks to be YF2 recessive pied skyblue spangle And this is the youngest. Is recessive pied to and can see blue developing on its rump. Not sure on colour, possibly cobalt. And this is the three of them together taking a nose dive into the blanket trying desperately to hinder my camera work. Just quick questions about Casper. Before breeding with him I knew nothing of his heritage. To produce 2 rec. pieds do I say he's split or masking rec. pied? And with the babies down being white does that definitely mean they will be opaline as well? And how does that apply to Casper too...is he split or masking? Blotch and Elmo are sitting on 5 eggs and no sign of babies yet.

Aviary For Sale/advice Needed
Hi there John, the avairy is very clean and well looked after. I think that size to buy new would go for a few hundred dollars. You could try putting it on ebay as I've noticed that avairies sell quite well on there. Good luck selling it.

Baby Budgies On The Way...
Hi there, just thought I'd give an update on my birds. Mocha and Caspers babies are hooting along. Lively and healthy as, and super loud. No. 1 baby - Albino hen - 13 days old No. 2 baby - 11 days old No. 3 baby - 9 days old And the 3 of them together. No. 2 and 3 I think might be pieds...they have dark and light coloured patches of skin. Blotch and Elmo have 5 eggs. I candled them this morning and none looking fertile. Couldn't tell which ones are the new ones, but should've been able to see something of the older eggs (the oldest egg is 10 days old) but they all look the same. So at the moment I'm thinking they may be infertile, just have to wait and see. Not holding out much hope for this pair at present though.

Baby Budgies On The Way...
This is Blotch and Elmo and I put them down a few months ago. I think they missed getting their act together in time to take advantage of their breeding condition. I left them together in the hopes that when they came into breeding condition again they would do okay. It has been ages and I was losing all hope that they would ever get it together. They have been mating like crazed rabbits but I doubted that anything was going right. I began to think that maybe something was wrong with them. Well after a few months together I had decided to put them back in the aviary and let them have a holiday and some fun times. Well, surprise surprise ...they have an egg (laid 18/8). I'm very pleased. Mocha and Casper's babies and going great. Expecting the last of their babies to hatch sometime today. Eggs everywhere.. . .

Baby Budgies On The Way...
Thanks for the info...I'm gonna use the excuse that I'm still a newbie for all my mistakes! In the mean time I'll just wait and wait and wait and practice all that patience I learnt from having kids.
