Update On My Screeching Budgie
It's been a week since I did my (bird whispering) tactic, with my poor noisy little boy the Weebil. What a difference in the household now ! He has not screamed or screeched once since before the day I started working with him. All my neighbors thought I gave him away they hadn't heard him do this annoying screech for a week now. Impressive yes ? YES IT IS !!!! Each day he comes out of the cage on my or my girlfriends hand. He will let us walk around the house to all the rooms with him on our fingers. He understands & does the command STEP UP. Now the hen does this too. Makes me wanna do the budgie happy dance to see them listen to us ! DANCE DANCE DANCE !!!! Each bird is getting more & more comfortable with us daily. But he is the most impressive. We allow them to do their own everyday budgie things, play, bathe & eat up on the play center. But now we are feeling more secure that we can get both birds to step up & go back in their cage should we need to move them for safety reasons. I am pleased at this. I am sure that things are going to get better for this little bird. The fear he showed of us before is almost next to nothing. He is growing more confident & now is interested in singing more & interacting with us. I think he likes the adventures we have been showing him around the house. I have stood at the window with him on my finger & watched him staring fascinated outside. This was the best thing I could have done for him. Some may think or say it was drastic or not the best way to reach a budgie & his tormented soul. But I wasn't going to give up. So I got some good training advice from Terri at Budgie Talk & what she has advised me to do training him is working. I am very very very pleased now. Doing the budgie dance all over !!!! Thanks to everyone for advice & help & leading me on this mission for a happy budgie. Nick

Midday Naps
Yep.. totally serious. Mine have never done it. I'm quite disappointed as I think it looks sooo cute!! I've tried to sneak a look when they're sleeping, covered or uncovered but nope!! heads just in a normal position!! Sad isnt it!!!??? :(" Yes thk ... totally sad. I love looking at them sleeping " TUCKED " maybe they will do it one day & you will freak out thinking " OH MY GOD ! MY BIRDS HEAD IS MISSING ! "
-
Midday Naps
Are you serious thk ? Your birds don't put their heads under their wing ? I've had budgies my entire life & I've never seen them sleep any other way then with their heads under their wings. It's strange the differences in our birds.

Chit Chat Before & During Naps.
Just as my hen is settling into a nap during the day ... or before she goes to sleep at night. SHE CHITTER CHATS ... the sounds coming from her are so sweet. They are soft little whistles & high notes & chits & chutters & coos of many different sounds that make you think she is soooooo darn cute ! & I want to kiss her to death !!!!!! I often talk to her during this time & she will be even more vocal. Her head is tucked under her wing & she will still do this amazing little talk while it sounds like like she is scolding me in budgie babble to shut up cause she's dreaming & doesn't want to be disturbed. Do your birds babble like this too ?

Midday Naps
SWEEEEEEEEEEET picture there Maesie. Love that ! Yes ... I do notice on sunnier days even in the winter, my 2 budgies go NUTS ! Loud & silly & more active. I love to see this.

Could It Be Male?
Both my budgies make the ACK ACK ACK sound. I hear it more often from the hen. She loves to do this when she wants my attention & wants to come out of her cage.

Midday Naps
I wondered about the sleeping habits of Budgies too ... I notice my 2 sleep several times a day. So this is OKAY ? Do you think they sleep more in the winter ? I seem to see my birds sleeping allot more now that it seems darker & less sunny mostly. In the summer they were up & attem all day & into the late of the evening as it was still light.

Salt Lick ?
Sorry Kaz ... I can't view anything after page 30. It tells me there is pages 31-32 & beyond are not part of this book preview. BUT !!!!!!! I will take your word for it. I suppose some ppl do give salt to birds. I was still very surprised by this. I always heard that it was bad. Popcorn or chips could make your budgie very ill because of the salt or sodium. I look forward to everyone else & what they think or have to say about this. Nick

Salt Lick ?
I did see that Kaz. But I couldn't find where it mentions the salt lick. Hint ?

Salt Lick ?
WOW ... interesting there lonebudgie. I have never heard of this. I googled it & had little luck finding much about salt lick for birds. BUT... I did find out there are some types of birds that visit natural salt licks found in their environments. And these places happen to be ... Peru, the Amazon, Bolivia, Chili, Equador, Patagonia, Costa Rica & more. This seems to point to the idea that the salt is needed for these birds because of the hot environment they exist in. I can't see Ontario Canada as that type of place. We get snow & a rain & all the rest of the seasons of normal types of weather here. So salt licks are not really needed for a smalll bird like a budgie in my environment. I can see why this Avian Vet & I had never heard of this before. By The Way ... the man in the Avian Vets who was adamant about this Salt Lick for birds was from Argentina. Learning all the time !!!!!!!!!

Salt Lick ?
At the Avian Vets the other day ... some man was asking where he could buy a Salt Lick. My ears perked up & so did the vets. A salt lick ? What's a salt lick ? The man said it was a block of salt you hung in the birds cage for birds to eat. He said his birds always had a salt lick when he was younger as a kid. But now he couldn't find one for his new birds. I asked him to describe this salt lick. He told me it was white a quarter inch thick & oblong, sort of 3 inches long. I told him that was a cuttle bone. He said no. That's a salt lick. The vet said no ... that's a cuttle bone from a squid. The guy said no. It's a salt lick. My birds need salt. Both the vet & I said salt was bad for any birds. If they need some potassium they get it in their poops. The vet said that salt could kill his birds. The guy argued & argued. He was right ... the Vet was wrong. Are we wrong ? Has anyone of you ever heard of salt licks for your birds ?

George And Franklin On The Laptop
Speaking ofBudgies on Keyboards ! A few years ago I had a sweet budgie named DEMON ... he use to crawl over my keyboard when I worked at the puter. One time as I was pressing down on a key as he was walking by & his little toe & nail went low & between the keys. Of course it got trapped as the key raised back up. OH MY GOD ! He freaked on me & bit my fingers that were typing away. I was very careful about typing when he came to play on the keyboard after that. :hap:

Do The Budgie Puzzles !
Exactly Maesie ! When my mom tried to use the mouse, the mouse ended up going up the wall. There was never enough space or room on the desk to contain her & her wandering hand & mouse. I use to laugh hearing her curse it. Jigzone helped train her hand on the mouse too. Now she challenges me to puzzle contests. Who has the best speed. She wins most times !

Do The Budgie Puzzles !
Ah ... I guess it would have been harder for you then Phoebe. I've been a jigzone junkie for a long time & love doing the puzzles. The harder the puzzle the better. Start on a smaller cut puzzle & work your way up. You'll do great. And soon you will be a jigsaw junkie like me !
