i am new to the forums and have just started to hand raised 4 baby budgies after the mother flew away. i have found information on raising baby budgies on the forum but it says to wean them when they are fully feathered and sorry but i do not know alot about baby budgies so at what age are they fully feathered and i am using a heating cord to keep them warm but at what age do i stop using a cord to keep them warm and move them to a little cage. any information would be greatly welcome. i also have 4 and a friend would like to have two to raise. what age would you seperate the babies.i am sorry if they sound like silly questions but i am going away at christmas and wanting to know what things i will need to take the budgies with me.

Hello Daz if you look at our photos ( in my last post) you will see we have a big (2.4m sqr) avary with all the birds in together with 6 guinea pigs so that would be a colony i suppose. The mother would not allow the male past the nest's front door and she was feeding them herself. So went to a local pet shop and bought a heating cord to go around the ice cream container we have them in, and we are feeding them a high protein rearing formula we are advised to use.In the 6 days we have had them inside, 3 have been little pigs, eating until they nearly popped, and one - the youngest- came in but got very sick and stopped eating. pretty soon it's crop stopped emptying and its belly turned dark red like a bruise, and then he started passing blood, BUT the last two days he has begun to pick up and is looking for food and is pooing normally again. Looks like we may have saved the little life with some TLC, but he does have a rather extended belly. Thanks for the reply!

Hello everyone My name is debbie and i have had budiges for 6 years now in a avairy. at the moment i have 6 adult budgies which have nested the last three years but on monday one of my females flew out of the avairy leaving four babies behind, so i have joined your forum to find out as much information as i can on how to raise them. they are about 2 to 3 weeks old i think but one is not growing much. i will try to add a picture and see if it works. i have never be involved in a forum before. I have had the babies for 6 days now and they are all still alive so i must be doing something right, but they take a lot of work. i would love to hear from folk who have hand raised babies and tell me their experiences. xx Deb Visit My Photo Website
