How exciting. Good luck. Just remember it is important to check and handle the chicks from very early on. As your hen sounds like she will be very protective, the earlier you start the better. When I check mine, I gently tap on the nest box door and say her name or something. Then open the door. After awhile she will move out of the nest box so you can do your checks. I then pick up the chicks and do a check of them. If you keep them near the nest box/in it, she will see you are doing no harm. Then replace them and she will hop back in. Just remember to clean your hands before and after.
  10. I have learnt everything I now know about budgies. I have also learnt that everyone on here is so nice... I could never imagined I'd become so close to so many people... (((I am still to learn anything about genetics and mutations... my mind just simply does not want too ))) EDIT: I do tell a lie. I do know what an Opaline is!!!
  11. You're finally doing yourself a signature!!! I use a combination of programs... none of which are free... Good luck and I hope to see it SOON!!!
  12. Oh no... good luck and hugs mate xoxo Please keep us updated!
  13. Yeah, my inside girls do it too. It freaks my family out when they are here . My aviary birds don't seem to do it... so I put it down to Gucci and Dolce having their wings clipped, not getting 24/7 exercise like the aviary birds, and not being able to actually fly.
  14. I don't use any sprays at all. I use a rolled up newspaper Budgies are very small compared to us... and I know how much it stinks to me!!! BUT, I have seen ads for a new plant based one??? It's in a green can, probably from supermarkets. On the ad it show the lady spraying it near the family and dog who are eating dinner. They are saying it is safe around family, food and pets... but I'm unsure if I'd still be prepared to use it around my birds... That's just me though...
  15. I have newspaper under the grate of my cage, but when my chicks were young, it was on op of the grate. They ripped it to pieces. I have never had a problem with any of my birds eating it.

I have an idea. What about if you and the kids sit around the table of an evening, and de-husk each individual seed, then pass them all onto your hubby, to individually ground each one down into dust... then make your own 'soft food'. You could bribe the kids with money, toys or lollies from that fabulous shop around the corner from you!!!! All jokes aside, good luck with her... I really hope she gets that she should be eating seed, and you can relax and not worry about her. Hugs mate
  17. Thanks all. MB is right... the spring free ones are meant to be safer... but not $1,000 worth of safe lol. My sister will be getting a normal one with mats and a net... and there will be rules!!! Thanks again all. Cheers xo
  18. Cheers xoxo Thanks guys!
  19. They are thinking 12ft. I know there are ones at target and local sport shops quite good value. She has also seen them online and on ebay. I guess the main thing is she doesn't want to get a dodgie brand/type... but I guess they probably all have to comply to certain standards anyway.
  20. My sister is getting a trampoline for her kids for Christmas and checking out her options. I said I'd ask here too... She is getting one of the round ones with the safety nets. They had thought of the 'spring free' ones but for the size they want... it's over $1,000!!! The kids won't use it that much to make that sort of money worth while... So, my questions are... do you have one or know someone that does?, what brand is it?, where did you get it from?... and what are the pros and cons? Any advice will be most welcome and I'll let her know your thoughts. Thanks all. maesie xo
  21. Thanks maesie , i was just going to have a go myself and see if i could put it right , but you have done a great job and they are much better to look at , cheers jo No worries. Members don't have long to edit their own posts and then they can't access them... so mods need to do it anyway. Next time, just put each photo on a separate line with a line in between them. He is very cute!!!
