  6. had a very long day but have had a good day catching up with relatives. The kids eyes are hanging out of their heads, poor little things are soooooooooooooo tired!!! but they have been very good considering they have been awake for about 6 extra hours today. Zzzzzzzzzz. Off to see Gary A tomorrow which will be great fun! ps... New flight is FLIPPING F-A-N-T-A-S-T-C!!!!!!!!!! WAY bigger than any of the photos show!!
  7. This might also sounds really weird, but you could possibly stop it by gently cutting off her purple cheek patches with scissors. The cheek patches are what attracts a mate.
  8. I have packed my umbrella to stop the birds pooping in my hair when i am sleeping in their flight Thanks Dave, I was making up a flat pack one cage that i was planning to put together at Kaz's, and i have one of Kaz's cages here already, but I have been told i don't need to bring one, so every KG saved in luggage, saves me extra lugging as i don't have my muscly hubby to do the lugging for me -
  9. The children and I are flying to Perth tomorrow morning and am very excited!! I am leaving the birds in the reiliable hands of my hubby (aka 007). I will be staying with Kaz again and we will be traveling around visiting some very good WA breeders, such as Gary Armstrong, Cec Gearing and Gina House!! Is going to be so fun!! I will also being catching up with family and friends as well, as half my family are in WA Anyways, i just wanted to start a topic to use as a kind of diary of the trip and i will post updates with photos of sights and birds etc
  10. WOOOOOO!!! Congratulations!! xoxo
  11. I agree with Dave's advice  Also, personally i have never had any troubles with budgies and cockatiels living together, and I have had both for over 16 years
  12. Yes, you want the foot to look pink, and red at the very most. If it looks dark red, purple or black, then blood flow is restricted or prevented altogether. The ring is off, so this should be okay, provided the splint doesn't get too tight.
  13. Hello and welcome. Budgies do mourn their lost for a little while, but she will get used to being alone if you can be her companion instead. But It's up to you in what you want to do with George. If you think she would be happy with another mate, then get her one ( but give 30 days minimum quarantine) before introducing them. If you would prefer her to live in an aviary with lots of other budgies, then i am sure finding her a new home wont be hard. So it really depends on what you want
  14. I agree. a small cage will be fine for a few days. small cages are only really bad for long term. a short term stay in a small cage should pose no problems
  15. I have had this happen before... so scary . Their legs are pretty tough so unless you can see a distinct break or there is a bruised line, i would suggest the leg is more sore than broken. Regardless, the leg will most likely swell badly in the next few hours, and the ring will constrict the blood flow to the foot. Cut the ring off now while its not swollen and this will increase the chances the leg wont loose movement in the toes. Then heat lamp, food, water and quiet to help with shock. dont worry about the antibiotics. just keep the wound clean.
  16. Stunning Stunning Stunning!!!! Congratulations
  17. The white one could be a DF spangle that is masking cinnamon or possibly recessive pied, which would give it plum eyes.
  18. I agree with Kaz. There is nothing we can do except make it more comfortable while you wait to see the vet. A vet will be able to diagnose the organism causing the condition.
  19. 140. When you can totally relate to every point in this topic :D
  20. He could be a dominant pied and a recessive pied together perhaps???
  21. I agree, he looks great. I wouldn't stress too much at the moment, he is in way to good condition to have any major issues. His poop problems may be stress poo, which is often watery, or loose and sticks to the vent... perhaps take 7 days to sit back and let him relax and see how his poop is then. He will feel your stress and stressing over a bird can be the quickest way to knock them down.

    Am hoping he pulls through

I agree with Hamish. I have seen this with older hens who get an infection from a distended crop. I have treated it with sulfa followed by pro biotic.
