Pellets
Hi all, We had a Lorikeet not long ago and we still have the pellets that we were feeding her: 'Passwell Parrot Pellets'. It says it's for Cockatoos and Parrots but it doesn't says anything about Budgies? I'm not going to give it to them until I know for sure.

Moving Budgies From Cage To Cage
Hi all, When I need to move one of my budgies to another cage for reasons, I sometimes catch them in the evening. It can be really hard during the day as they can see you and fly all around the cage... when it's a little bit dark it seems to be easier. Do you think the time of the day matters? Is it okay for the budgies? We never let them fly around in the dark and we always turn a light on so they can see something.

May Start Breeding In 2008!
I will have to have a think about that Kaz and thanks for the offer of the breeding cabinets . It might be too hard to close off one half of my aviary so, when I start breeding I will take out a few pairs and breed them in the breeding cabinets, I think you saw our shed in our backyard where we were treating one of our birds, anyway, I may put cabinets in there to do the closed breeding, but, like I said, I'll have to think about it as my Dad was keen on colony breeding. Thanks alot :rip:.

Think Before You Introduce Your New Bird Without Quarantine Procedures
First sign is sitting fluffed up and not moving or flying around much. Upon catching bird, look to see if face and beak is clean or dirty: - in the early stages the bird regurgitates seed that looks slimy and it often sticks to their beak & face and hardens or they fling it around the cage - looks like they spit up thick saliva which sticks and hardens They look like they have trouble swallowing/reguritating or otherwise just in need of good neck stretches. There is often faecal matter stuck to their vent feathers that they are unwilling or unable to kick off. Poop can change colour to green or black and loses the white mass. A dead givaway is the bird has lost alot of weight. Feel it's chest, healthy bird you can feel meat, sick bird you can feel the bones easily - sometimes see them protruding. A sick bird will quite often pig out on seed (vet told me they don't usually eat it but grind it up into a powder). Quite often the bird will be unable or unwilling to bite you even if s/he usually does. Literature I have read on the disease says that there are 2 "versions" i you will. One is the ast acting killer that will kill the bird in a matter of day and the second is the one that does it slowly over a period of time. This probably explains why my birds died over a period of time instead of within days of each other. Although when I noticed the symptoms, my birds died within 48 hours. Thank you so much for telling us this! now i know what my bird died from a few weeks ago! How sad, I feel so sorry for you! :rip:

May Start Breeding In 2008!
Hi all, I have recently been reading some of the posts to do with breeding on the forum and I may start breeding next year. I am also reading the FAQ's and other sources about breeding. I've decided to start next year as I want to be totally prepared for every situation and I want to make sure that I know exactly what I'm doing before getting into it. I am planning to colony breed and have got 4 pairs already. If anybody has any main points or tips about colony breeding it would be great if you could reply to this post. Points about anything!... anything that you find important. Thanks .

Budgies Lay Down?
Hi all, We have a flat 'perch' in our aviary, like a flat surface and when some of my birds have their naps they sometimes lay their whole bodies down on the flat surface...? I didn't think that budgies did that to rest. They like to nap in the late afternoon.

Urgent Help!
Thanks all. I went on an ant killing spree on Saturday. Used some vinegar inside the avairy and outdoor ant/insect spray outside (i was very carerfull to avoid drifting) It seemed to have worked at the moment so I just need to keep on top of it. Is Ant Sand safe? I was worried they would take it into the avairy and the birds mite eat it?! I agree Kaz, one of the budgies dropped an egg, and wella, they were all over it. I also notice they love the corn too. The birds are getting used to the fact that they must eat it FAST before I remove it before th invasion starts! Yes...is Ant Sand safe? I would like to know too as I have a simalar problem. :glare:
