  2. It sounds like you want someone to tell you 'Don't do it', which means that you are unsure. Bottom line is it's your body, your life, nobody has the right to say do it or don't do it, it is totally your choice. There is no 100% that you will have a girl only 50/50. :hap:
  3. They should be fine. They get calcivet, greens and this round I'm using breeding aid for the first time.
  4. Glad that you've finally got some answers and now the whirlwind starts...lol Good luck
  5. Very sorry to hear of your losses Maesie. :angel1:
  6. Very nice looking birds.
  7. We have had some strange egg problems in the last few days. 1. Saturday night I noticed that one of the eggs in box 1 was starting to hatch so I expected it to be out on Sunday morning. When I went to check it looked like half of the egg had collapsed (was flat), I could still see the chick moving under the shell and it was like the shell had melted. After watching Libby's video about helping a stuck chick out I slowly started to peel the shell away but the shell was sticking to the chick (melted onto it). I finally got off as much as I could and replaced the chick only to have the hen throw it out dead a couple of hours later. 2. In box 4 I had a hen lay a really big egg on the floor of the cage early yesterday (broken) then last night she laid a smaller one in the nest box but it looks kind of chalky?? Anybody know what is happening?
  8. Thanks Kaz, I thought I would have to retire him from breeding. I don't want to have to be hovering around the nest box until an egg is laid and taking it straight away. Always seems to be the ones you really want to breed with that you have the problems
  9. Hope you get an answer or at least a confirmation that something is being done.
  10. Way to go Elly, congratulations
  11. You watch that one then (it will make it so much easier to run off with the others if kaz is distracted by that one) Good thinking Dave They are gorgeous chicks Kaz! P.S. I hope Ken found the meds for you
  12. Congratulations Elly and Maesie, beautiful photos
  13. Congratulations Dave
  14. I have a Yellowface Type 1 Blue Spangle who is almost 2 years old. Last year he and his partner successfully raised 4 chicks with no problems at all. A couple of months ago I put him in with a first time hen I have and she laid 3 eggs, each of which were smashed after they were laid - I thought it was the hen. 3 weeks ago I put him in with another hen - she is a good mother, never had any problems with her. She laid her first egg, smashed. The 2nd egg was smashed also and she started to attack him. What would make the cock start smashing eggs this year??
  15. Mmmm, does that mean you'll be paying??? I'll keep it in mind
  16. Hope you're able to get it all finished in time

That's an interesting way to put it Dave, I've never thought of it that way
  18. Great work deb
  19. Hope its nothing to serious Maesie
  20. I'm normal.... ...well supposedly. I said carrots
  21. Yes possibly brittany. I had the same problem a while ago. The parents seem to have a sixth sense about the viability of their chicks
  22. I had the same trouble with the vets not giving Ivermectin earlier in the year. They refused and sold me some spray which I use after I have cleaned the breeding cages but I won't spray it on the budgies. I'll be ringing all the vets in our phone book soon to see if I can get some from another vet.
  23. Glad you got a good report from the vet
