Something Strange Going On With Hen
Thanks, I will take the first 2 that hatch this week and foster them to my other hen whose last 2 eggs are due to hatch at the same time. They are both good parents so it shouldn't be a problem hopefully. Best part is that I will easily be able to tell the chicks apart as one pair is Lutino and Green Opaline and the other pair are Cobalt Normal and Albino.

Something Strange Going On With Hen
I have a hen who I have let lay a second clutch because she only raised 2 chicks in the first clutch - she laid 4 eggs, 1 DIS and the other clear. This will be her 3rd clutch since I've had her (not in succession) and she has only ever laid 4 eggs in each clutch. Now to my problem this time she has laid 9 eggs and looks to be going to lay more and all are fertile that I've been able to candle so far. The first is due to hatch in 2 days. How many is to many for her to raise. I only have 2 other hens on eggs and young chicks at the minute - 1 has 5 chicks and the other has 3 chicks hatched and 3 more fertile eggs to go. Could I take the first couple that hatch and foster them to the other hens I have sitting?

Big Vinnie And Sootica Have A Baby
Gorgeous absolutely gorgeous little chick. I have a pair the same colors (nothing spectacular like your show birds only pet types) that I can't wait to put down when they're over 12 months, hope I get something similar....lol

Alcatraz.......
You may want to rethink the lino, there was an article on here about it being bad for budgies. I'll see if I can find it. Kaz posted this back in Aug 2007: You will have problems if the birds decide to chew on it. Your Lino isnt the true natural lino from years ago that was made from natural products ...it is a vinyl flooring product and is a synthetic product made of chlorinated petrochemicals, where traditional linoleum is produced from all-natural ingredients. Vinyl flooring has health hazards as it emits vinyl chloride fumes.....these fumes are a known carcinogen ( cancer producing ) . It will also trap moisture and promote the growth of moulds.

Nesting Boxes
My only concern using plastic nest boxes would be that they would get to hot during summer?

Young Kids And The Dentist
If it's only a surface hole they won't even need to give her an injection to fill it. Dentists are much more accomodating to children these days than when I was a child, I have never had any trouble taking any of mine.

This is an updated photo of the oldest chick - still a mystery. He had plum eyes when he hatched - does that mean Cinnamon? He has been named Stone.

What Will Chicks Probably Be?
No I didn't swap any eggs this season - didn't need to and the other strange chick had hatched just as this hen started to lay. Thanks for that the 2 youngest are spangles then but the oldest one's tail feathers were all the same. I'll try and take some more photos later today.
