Hellos From Me And My Birdies
Here here, allow me to introduce myself properly. I'm Michelle, I'm 23 and I'm an artist for a video game company.. And I like my birdies. My first budgie is Bud. I thought she was a he when I bought her but whoops, the cere decided to switch colors and now she's laying eggs! I gotta admit that out of the two she's my favorite. Her favorite hobby is munching your eyebrows and glasses. She might also take a keen interest into destroying your favorite shirt or CHEWING THE WOODEN SHELVES BEHIND THE CAGE WITH THE STUFF ON IT (darnit.) I don't have very recent pictures of her, but here goes! #2 is named Pat. He's not as tamed as Bud is, he mostly just mimics her. I never had the time to really do much with him considering that whenever I feed him or play with him, Bud butts in. But while Bud can be stubborn sometimes about getting on your finger, if you corner Pat he won't resist and will come quietly. Bud lays against the perch to not be picked up sometimes. That's a trick Pat didn't learn from her yet. And that is presumed #3. I have yet to check if it's fertile though. Ehee. It was laid on the 24th somewhere during the day. When I left in the morning she was very very big, when I came back home there was an egg in the nest! Waiting for others now.

Won't Take Nesting Material
Right. Well, I removed most of it. Now she's confused again, ehehe. I heard it's normal they don't stay very long in the nesting box as long as all the eggs aren't laid, is that true?

Won't Take Nesting Material
Well I just put the bedding in... She looks very very confused. She keeps going in and out of the nest as if she's unsure. For now I just put some in the hole so she could get used to it... I'll add it all over when she cools.

Won't Take Nesting Material
Gotcha. I have pine shavings at home, so I'll do that when I get home. First I'll bribe her out of the nest, then I'll put pine shaving in! ...Hm, won't it scare her though? I know that she always brakes when she sees something that wasn't there. It won't stop her from taking care of the egg I hope.

My Budgie Videos!
Here are videos I made of my birds... The quality isn't all that great but that's Youtube being naughty! was mostly a test but you see them get all excited about my mom turning on the tap water. :budgiedance: when Bud suddenly decided to lunge at the poor boy. You see, that used to happen ALL THE TIME! I was pretty surprised to find them interested in mating a few weeks later... Now they don't do it anymore. Well, not too much. Ehee. Pat jumps in the cage later in the video but doesn't do anything. And for last... of my birds fooling around XD

Thanks guys! Just one thing though, how much material should I put? Should it cover the whole floor or should I put some just in the hole where the egg is?

Won't Take Nesting Material
Hello, hello! I have a nice couple of birds. The girl is named Bud, the boy is named Pat. They're really darlings and they're mates. Yesterday Bud has laid an egg. I was expecting that to come! She has her nesting box and everything, she's keeping the little thing warm... But she doesn't take any nesting material! The box is a plastic box so it's a bit slippery. I had tried multiple times in the latest weeks to encourage her to put stuff in there. I tried hay, pine shavings, fluff... She just takes the stuff or throws it out! So I left nesting material close to the nest and some down at the bottom of the cage for her to make the nest herself... But no can do. Now she has an egg in an empty nesting box I'm not sure the egg is fertile yet, it's all fresh and all, but it's possible it won't be fertile since Pat lacks... well... SKILLS. But maybe they succeeded before, I'm not home during the day... What should I do? Should I put nesting material back in the cage? Is she gonna throw it out again? Is it a bad idea to touch the egg? I don't want her to abandon it!
