My 2011 Breeding Journal
This is one of my latest chicks, a grey cinn op hen, I actually don't know her parents but I am guessing her parents are Geoff's birds because the hen is cobalt opaline and the cock a grey cinnamon. The hen sits tight and i lost the first round but I managed to transfer some eggs and I think this is the only one that made it. Nice handy hen though.

Naughty Chicks
Thank you Twisted, I hope so too but it doesn't matter if they don't, I am sure they will grow into really good birds.

Naughty Chicks
Today I was show cage training the 2 well actually 4 chicks that I am taking to the selection day on Sunday. And then hopefully off to the shield. There is a sky blue cock purple ring, light green spangle orange ring and I thought I would take a violet and sky violet pied for numbers, they last 2 will come last for sure. I mightn't even take them yet BUT at least they behaved them save in the show cage, they were little darlings. BUT BUT BUT the other 2 very naughty, they decided sitting on the floor was better than the perch. Anyway after their little listen I put them back in the holding cages and about an hour later went in there to check on nest etc and I thought I heard a bird flying but couldn't see any thing but after looking again here was the sky up on the trophy cabinet and the light green spangle squeezed in on top of one of the wire breeding cages. The cheeky pair had escaped, glad i saw the green spangle because slipped down behind the wire cage and there was no way for him to get out, so very lucky. There were 6 babies in that cage but only those 2 escaped. This is the light green cheeky baby and the sky back to more training tomorrow.

Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
Dan with the ring issue, You can show purple rings and orange rings next year at the diploma shows but you can only show the purple rings at the young bird shield. So the babies you are breeding now, orange ring, you can't show them at the young bird shield until 2013. It's all very confusing. See like now they must be down on birds for this shield so they are allowing purple rings too plus double ring birds. Yes GB know how you feel, I have those 2 really nice Dk greens one is starting to change in the cere and the other which I think is better HAS NO RING, sad hey, I had to cut it off, so he can never be shown. The sky spangle was plucked on the back of the head by mum so he has pin feathers growing there, can't show him now, sucks.

Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
cool the birds will love that beautiful judging stick, I am sure they will perch straight away as they see. lol I will try to come. Being show training birds today and yesterday, the spangle is a bit naughty he prefers to sit on the floor.

Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
I agree, the ring issue date now Sucks big time , I actually hate it. And if the move the shield to some where I am to scared to drive I won't be going either. I am trying to work out now how to get to Preston. Gb I think I am coming to the shield with 2 birds in out whole team, my 2 birds a lt green spangle and a sky..

Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
Found out today that you can show Purple rings, orange rings and both rings on the birds, god use to disqualified for having double ringed the birds. Happy about it anyway because if I can afford to go the sky can go now, he should be an orange ring anyway but I kept putting the purple rings on into early September. He is a great big bird and hopefully do well.

Cock Can Not Climb On Hen To Mate
I wouldn't worry to much because they probably mate probably when you are not watching, they can even mate on the floor but if you are really worried put a double perch in. You are only talking about pet types so they are probably different than my birds but I no longer breeder with cocks under 18 months. I find they are to immature and hardly ever fill an egg. But there is the exception. For example all the cocks I bred last year I did not use this year, I will use them in March next year on wards.

My First Aviary
North east is the best I think, you get the morning sun, and South and West have the worst winds ect My out side side aviaries face North but the They wire on the east side at the front for the morning sun. My old birdroom faces east and only gets the morning sun only but I find that quite good because in the summer very cool because the garages stops it from getting the afternoon sun. But the west end which is where my kitchen is that wall is completely clear pvc plastic, so plenty of light and a small window up the over end which is north end. The baby aviary which is in the middle has a large window facing east. My new bird room faces West which I actually hate so much but we had no choice. It's good all through winter because it is quite warm in in there but in the summer it cops the hot afternoon sun, but we are going to build a veranda to cut some of the sun out.

How Would You Like This Budgie In Your Aviary.
He has shoulder and how can you tell he doesn't have back scull Renee when you can't see that area anyway. I think he is magnificent. I would be proud to breed a bird like that but then at the same time the directional feather is almost going to far.

My New Birdroom (start To Finish)
Yes Renee I used it but the rain can't get to it so it should be good. I am using that foam stuff too even though Kaz says the mice eat the bloke at Bunnings reckons they don't so we will see. But I use it a while ago out side my old bird room and mice have not touch it at all and that's when there were hundreds of the little beggers, so that is a little indication that it is not to bad in my view.

My New Birdroom (start To Finish)
Today I didn't get around to the aviary, I got side tracked fixing the dumb door that leads from out side into the birdroom. Didn't take photos but will tomorrow. But i have to admit I did a wonderful job if I do say so myself lol, very pleased with the end result and it is mouse proof, YES. I also put some angle up above the door that leads into the birdroom from the avairy but first I had to use the angle grinder to even the tin up. I am always worried Geoff will cut his head when he walks through because he is very tall and hasn't much hair, sorry Geoff. but at least you won't cut your head now, and I was thinking of you when I did it. lol Aviary Friday, shopping day tomorrow.

New Bird Room
opps sorry read it wrong and I was envious that your shed was 4mt x 4mt but still it is .75 x.75 bigger than mine. But mine is a breeding room only so I guess plenty big enough. So that means you need to put a bit more cement down. Yes post some pics will be good.

Some Chicks
Nice auction birds and good prices too Kaz, oh and lovely chickies too. Hey Renee you some of the best birds are cinnamon opaline. I use to be like you but I don't care any more because you need cinnamon for the feather and you need opaline for size and for spot size without both varieties it would be hard to improve. I do find them a pain sometimes but only when I breed a cinnamon spangle or opaline spangle and only because judges don't like them but now that they are trying out cin and opaline spangle classes that makes me happy and I hope they bring it in forever. The only thing I hate about opaline is they do seem to bring out the flecking and it is hard to get a clean V.

My New Birdroom (start To Finish)
Really want to use it again Renee so have to do the hard work. I want the babies in the aviary by the weekend, so I can put the adult birds back in their aviary, at the moment I have all adults in one aviary and babies in another and culls in the little cage and I want to bring out the breeding birds but there is no room for them. Plus I want to make the old bird room into 2 aviaries 3ft by 7ft long each.and a small area to hold birds or breed trouble birds next year. There will be enough room for 3 double cages. The old room is 11 feet long and 6ft wide. The old bird room is much cooler than the new one because it doesn't get any after noon sun because of the garage.

Double Feather
The green spangle is 7 weeks and the sky sp is 6 weeks old, Taylor, not feather duster. And Squeak that's what I thought would happen but no they just got more and more and some fell out and Geoff just plucked the rest out and said it was double feather. You can't even tell they have been pulled out. Evidently it is a sign of a good feathered bird. The sky spangle had them all over his front today but are gone now plucked out.

Double Feather
Has anyone seen double feathers on their birds, this bird I thought was getting something like french moult because his body feathers sit out like you see in the photo, he has all flights and tail etc. I showed 2 breeders today and they said it was double feather and they just pulled them off, his brother is the same and they told me that birds that have double feathers turn out really good. I have never seen this before but both birds are really good. You can see on his front
