Some Of My New Bubs:
Just wanted to share some of my new babies. The Mother is an YF2 ParBlue [maybe Violet] Spangle…Dad an Opaline Sky Blue, from YF2 parents, both Mum & Dad. This is their first batch, got three other young but not feathered much as yet, so doing well & I’m happy with the colour of these three, the two largest are very similar, the younger one is much lighter & sorry covering up one of the larger ones. What do you think, YF2 just Cobalt or maybe Violet Opaline Spangles?

Got My First Creamino:
As per request, first picture is of the full batch, this batch should help with my lack of female Budgies, this pairs first batch had 2 Grey Green Normals, 1 YF2 Blue Pied, 1 Grey Green Pied, all males. This batch has 1 Grey Green Normal, 1 Opaline Grey, 2 Lutinos, 1 Creamino & 1 Opaline Grey green...the Grey Green Normal could be male, but all others have to be females, as sex linked colours from the father. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/gr...666/batch.1.jpg And the Creamino herself...sorry pictures not brillant, because of shade & light, was trying avoid flash.

What Do You Think I Have?
Thanks for that clarification Daz.

What Do You Think I Have?
Thanks for that Daz, so it might even be a Lacewing, but it wont show because of masking by DF Spangle. I also had thought of breeding a DF Spangle YF, so that looks like it wont work either. I’m not keen on pure white birds myself, so thought if I mated two YF Blue Spangles I could get a white bird with a YF [Yellow Face] does it always mask it or only sometimes?…very interesting stuff. :budgiedance:

What Do You Think I Have?
I’m pretty sure Elly that he isn’t split for Cinnamon, as his father had two batches & if he was split for Cinnamon I would have expected some Cinnamon hens & I only got that Lacewing hen. Split Cinnamon won’t stay hidden for too many generations like Recessives…what I want to know is from anyone with experience with DF Spangles if they start off with Pinkish eyes. Or do they have Black eye right from the start.

Cage Fronts
If you haven’t had any luck with cage fronts, you could try this supplier in Sydney, they will post by mail…Petcare Direct Pty Ltd petcare.direct@bigpond.com I used to buy them at produce stores, but of late none seem to stock them anymore. I got mine from them they have about 18 different sizes. Sorry forgot poster is in Canada, but information for Aussies looking for cage fronts.

Got My First Creamino:
I paired up a Cinnamon Grey Green Dominant Pied hen, with a Light Green Opaline **** [father] he’s split for INO as he bred a Lutino with another hen. Both must be split for Blue as they produced a Blue in their first batch, he was also a YF so one must be masking YF… I suspect the mother. In this batch they have two Normal Greens, two Lutinos & the surprise YF Creamino. So as you can see one can get a few surprises from just two Green birds. :budgiedance: I had planned to try & breed some YF Albinos, but it happened without even trying.

The Breeding Season Has Started
Yes best of luck Macka for your breeding season. Sounds good so far. Pity about the few infertile's I hate that.

More Show Results
Yeah Congratulations Kaz…Like Marlony says can we have some pixies…I especially want to see the Cinnamon Spangle, as I’m thinking to breed some to see what they look like, I read somewhere to “keep” Cinnamon out of Spangles, but I don’t want to show it anyway, just to see what one looks like.

What Do You Think I Have?
I paired up my first Spangle to Spangle…the hen is a Light Green Spangle…the **** a Dark Green Spangle…he is split for Opaline & could be split for Lutino or Lacewing as his father was split for both. They have five young at the pin feather stage…three look like Green Spangles, but the one I want some advice on is Yellow, it had Pinkish eyes when young, they now look black, so I guess it’s not a Lutino, does anyone know if DF Spangles have Pinkish or plum eyes at first? As it did, it was more like a Cinnamon, but Dad isn’t split for Cinnamon, so I’m hoping it’s a Lacewing, but so far no sign of Cinnamon in it’s wings…the third young maybe a DF Spangle as it’s feathers are yellow like a Lutino or DF Spangle & I didn’t notice it had pinkish eyes while it was real young & they look black now. God we are being censured now…you can say hen, but can’t say ****…so the "father" :(Laughing out loud): is a Dark Green Spangles…(Laughing out loud)….

Bald Chicks
If the damage was too extensive they may never grow back their normal feathers. Usually after the skin has repaired, pin feathers will appear in two to three weeks.

What To Do With Robbie?

Safety Cage Completed For My Aviary
Yeah your aviary looks good, that will be a lot safer, yes I get complaints too, about the noise, but I think it's nice.

Baby Feeding Baby?
Yes that's normal; at one level Budgerigars are very sociable birds. It seems that only at breeding time do they get aggressive to others as a survival method, but at other times they are very sociable. Feeding others 'their mates" is very common. I'm pretty sure that even in the nest siblings probably exchange food, but it's difficult to observe. I have noticed that siblings at weaning time often feed their young siblings, even when they are only just learning themselves. I just lately had some young that were deserted by their parents, they all survived, even one that had it’s feathers just opening. I witnessed that they were helped, by other young birds in the aviary, who had only just learnt themselves to feed, but were unrelated to them.

Woah..
Mostly hens will screech at you, especially when in the nest, it's just a sort of warning that they don't want you so near to them. Often with a hen that does it, even the babies will start doing it if they hear a loud noise or if you inspect their nest box.

Help! Wild Jealousy And Fights In The House!
Usually they will be alright Michelle, of course they tend to be very quite for a few days & very slow at eating, but it's amazing how quick they get over the change & in few days should be flying around. Just watch them for a few days to be sure. You shouldn't have had too much trouble with that cage on the bus after all that extra vitamins, you should have flown home. :angel1: :

Help! Wild Jealousy And Fights In The House!
I think she means oatmeal like you have for breakfast. I haven’t heard about celery being bad for Budgie I give it to all my birds, Budgie & Cockatiels like you say they love it. I wouldn’t suck too much Budgie vitamins if I were you; they put things in pet foods that might not be good for humans. I hope you separate those birds soon, before it’s too late, when things like that happen they should be separated straight away, being in a small cage is better than them being killed. They might not wait till things are just perfect.

Mis Periquitos / My Budgies
Welcome to our group Lycfriends, nice to have you with us. Thank you for all your nice photos. I’m sorry that you lost some of your birds. Your birds look good. You have some different names, for the colour of birds than in Australia. I understood all your English, thank you.

An Easy Aviary Toy For Budgies
Yeah Great Kaz, I remember seeing them years ago, but never thought about them, that's a good idea, it's like a permanent tree for them, permanent at least till they chew it away...(Laughing out loud).

Help! Wild Jealousy And Fights In The House!
How did you go Michelle? Did you solve the fighting? It’s only temporary, once the nest is removed & breeding finished they will all get on well together again. Don’t worry about Bud & Pat squabbling over food that’s normal for Budgies, if it’s just “keep away from my food” it's normal. If you haven’t taken away the nest yet, I would advise it, like I said before. You don’t have to worry, they have most of their feathers now & wont get cold without the nest. They will do well on the floor for a day or two & then will move up onto the perches.
