The Challange Has Been Set...
Neat Maesie said she was taking the moral & high ground in wishing you well…but I'm saying I don't think there's going to be much moral or high ground about it…because with you two guys it's going to be no holds barred & I'm sure going to get dirty…so there will be nothing moral or high ground about it. Best of luck to you both …I'm pretty sure you will both make it & both be winners. Where's everyone this morning, I seem to be the only one alive…must be all sleeping in ready for all the excitement tonight.

I Am No Expert But....
Sounds good in theory AV…but I had a Fallow that I thought looked like a cock [from his head shape etc] but when I put him with a hen nothing happened. So I put a picture of him on here & asked for help…sob…no one was game to even take a guess. Not a word…so I kept trying him first with a hen then a cock…with a cock he was very pally, but nothing happened… with a hen nothing happened not even friendly, eventually I tried him with a few hens, one eventually went down on eggs…so now I definitely know he’s a cock, as the first chick has hatched, I think it’s a Fallow, as the hen is split.

I heard on the ABC news that he will be euthanased tonight. Better than watching him suffer on the news every night…he looks pretty weak now.

I Have Super Model Budgies
Neat some birds never get real fat they vary lots, others get overweight, I guess the same as with humans. A bird at 6 weeks wouldn’t have put on that much condition I would think they get meatier as they mature about the same time that they finish their first moult. Some of mine don’t eat much Safflower or Hulled oats, some seem to eat more Sunflower. Your diet seems perfect I wouldn’t worry unless the birds seem ill. Some birds will get fat in small cages, but I think most of them build up muscle when they have the use of a large aviary to build up their bodies. If some had real sharp breastbones I would worry. My birds have never got any fruit juices.

The Challange Has Been Set...
True Neat…I think it’s more close to the truth…don’t think she goes to bed that often…just as well you didn’t challenge her…you would have lost…would just be second nature to her…better learn a few clues from her before Sat.

Very NICE…See Kaz what did I say…it's a worry. And that's from the girl that blames me for teaching her how to stir…Actually I thought it was the other way around… :hap: If she can teach me how to post silly avatars she can teach YOU how to stir, I say Yes I think she could teach me a thing or two…would like to learn more about Avatars etc…maybe then I could be a bit more dangerous…she comes on the real innocent blonde, but we are not confused…she’s a pretty smart cookie…

Sadly I guess things like this go on in the ocean everyday, just we don’t see it happening…nature isn’t so compassionate as humans, but I guess it has its plan, it’s a mystery beyond us. When things go on like this in nature there’s probably a reason behind it, maybe the mother didn’t have the right motherly instinct, so in natures plan she wont produce successful prodigy to continue her line. Survival of the fittest. And I guess the government wonders who will pay for all the milk if they start feeding it. Often I think if we interfere too much in nature we prevent & even hinder its plan that only the strongest go on to produce. To us it’s sad.

The Challange Has Been Set...
What a wonderful job Maesie…I'm surprised on how much improvement you were able to make, after seeing some of the pictures of her on the forum previously. It must have taken hours. As Liv has already stated… OMG… Kaz you better give me temporary MOD powers & I better stay up Saturday night to help control those two…it’s already looking scarey…

I used to draw & paint when I was young, I went to East Sydney Technical College [Art school] for 6 years. Haven’t drawn or anything for years, mostly I was interested in drawing animals & birds. I started keeping bees when I was 21 when I caught a swarm, have been keeping bees now for 47 years, used to sell Queens bees that I bred, only breed for myself these days. I love building anything like sheds aviaries; feel real good when I’m building some project. My friend has bought a kit garage, so I will be busy with that soon, it will be my first kit, I like building my own type sheds really. Good to see all you other guys, talents.

How Long Do I Leave An Unfed Chick?
Sorry it didn’t make it Denise, if I were you I would give it another chance like you say you will, often a first batch wont be successful, something sounds wrong in the fact that only three eggs were laid. Often they will get going successfully on the second batch. Best of luck.

Advice Needed
I hope things re getting better after your expenditure of such massive amounts on this bird AV. I have too many birds to watch what each ones droppings look like, but I have had a couple of birds that once they are in cabinets, they drink massive amounts of water compare to normal birds, but they still seem to produce normal healthy young. I definitely think they must have some problems but what it is, is a mystery. Failed kidneys, livers etc aren’t good for each individual bird, but at least I don’t think that they are contagious.

Breeding Budgies
Sorry about the first chick, but they don’t all survive, best of luck with the rest…luckily you got a mix of colours.

How Long Do I Leave An Unfed Chick?
Watch the hen when her next eggs hatches, if she seems to not feed the second one again, try giving it to the foster & giving the larger chick back to her as she may then get the idea. You will have to hope she starts to feed otherwise unless you have other pairs the foster wont be able to feed them & her own when they hatch. I have never bothered doing the thing with the eggshell & never had them not accept the chick; sometimes the shell has already been cleaned up anyway. Good luck.

Pairing In The Breeding Cabinet
That’s great news Kaz…having good birds that actually produce babies is the best news possible…good luck..

The Challange Has Been Set...
Look at that REM [rapid eye movement] already on Neat, I’m guessing she is on something already Maesie, so she will be hard to beat…but with you having the power of censor, what’s going to be left for us “normal guys” when we wake…both of you have kids don’t you…how are your going to go to bed at 7am in the morning, or even sleep the day before to gain energy? And Maesie fancy asking Neat to behave…that’s like trying to hold back full tide in the ocean. Actually I’m glad I will be asleep, things could get dirty & I’m not sure I want to see it…LOL…good luck to you both.
