  1. Congratulations MB…you are taking on a full time job, I would have thought with those boys of yours & Uni you would have been flat tack already & looking after your other pets as well…best of luck.
  2. :hap: :hap: :hap:
  3. Just be patient Jodie, good luck. You may not even see them mating.
  4. Unbelievable Libby, just shows you how little some know, as it’s quite easy to treat, I can’t believe that the pet shop would take them off of anyone & introduce them to their shop, crazy. I think like DrNat said Ivermectin would be the best way to go with them, as it even looks like in one picture the mite has even spread to the vent area. Just the one treatment with Ivermectin is all it will need & less stress on birds already in a bad state.
  5. Yes it certainly is Jodie, it shows that they are paired up well, otherwise she wouldn't let him in.
  6. Recessive genes are extremely hard to get rid of out of a stud as you never know where they are & like you say can be hidden for ages. Even if you know a Recessive trait is in a bird once it mates with a bird without it only about something like 25% of the young will carry it, but if you don’t mate them with a bird with that trait you don’t know where it goes after that & later down the line you get a surprise chick. Recessive Pied is a good example these days lots of birds carry this trait.
  7. Sorry to hear you lost some birds Kaz, was it many? I know loosing any isn’t good but was any of them special or expensive birds you bought? Raining here again too, not many days clear here of late…good luck with the building, hope no more problems…don’t know about the “MEN” bit maybe they couldn’t concentrate with being licked in the face by those dogs…they look cute.
  8. Thanks Neat I hope I explained some things to you as well, I'm sure in your case it's nothing to do with being Blonde…LOL… but in this case I could see the parents of one side which helped a lot, but for some reason I had lots of trouble seeing the pictures they don't all show for me, whether that's something to do with the web site or my PC I don't know. Jodie the feet colour relates to where the pigment is in each individual, some can be a similar colour, but still have variations in where the pigment appears, it could mean they are carrying different other genetic factors also.

I think part of it is that these days we have been taught to fear death so much. Death is as much about life as being born, I have done some work on myself & read lots & they say until you don’t fear death you can’t live fully, once you accept death & the fact that it is a part of all that is, then you truly begin to live. My thoughts are that the idea is when you feel you have had enough, when you feel you have had all you can get out of life & you start to feel tired of it & that it really has no further purpose for you, then that is the right time to leave. Some die suddenly, like in a sudden stroke, but if you come from a long lived strain [or family] life can die a cell at a time & after a period it probably isn’t worth the suffering what you get out of it. I might write more later but that all I have time for now…life still worth it & busy…LOL...
  10. Most Budgies I find are very accommodating & will pair with what ever mate you choose for them, but I bought a nice show type Grey Green cock last year, I mated him with one of the hens I bought with him from the same breeder, but all eggs were infertile, since then I tried him with a couple of hens, but he would have nothing to do with them, in the aviary he just sat there without any interest in any one around, I just about thought he was going to be a failure, then a young hen not even moulted was in the aviary with him & all of a sudden he took a shine to her & has gone crazy & wont leave her side, I will let him breed with her when she is old enough. Of course whether it will succeed still has to be seen. I had another Pied hen I bought wouldn’t breed with anything, then she went back in the aviary & later a cock was placed in the aviary with her & she started pairing up with him, so I put them in a cabinet & they had two batches. So you get a few cases with very strict ideas on what & whom they like.
  11. Congratulations Deb, most of them know what to do, you just have to take the chance anyway, that’s the only way you can find out. Budgies seem to be able to handle big batches, even if the batch is large they will most likely all survive, but if too big maybe the chicks will turn out a little smaller. Do you have any other pairs that you can foster some to?
  12. Jodie your first pair [George Jr & Lumina] are both Light Green Normals. Mostly you will get Light Green Normals from this pair as Green is a Dominant colour, but seeing George’s Mother was a Cinnamon, he will be split for Cinnamon & some of his Daughters will be Cinnamon, some other Daughters will be Opaline as both his Mum & Dad are Opaline. As his Brother Bailey is Yellow Face, it must be coming from somewhere so you could also get some YF’s too, but only if Lumina is split for Blue, if she is it will be possible to get some Blues also. Also any Recessive factors both birds may be carrying. Bailey is an Opaline Yellow Face 2 Sky Blue… Sky looks like an Opaline Cinnamon Sky Blue Dominant Pied. All their young will be Blue about 50% chance could be YF2 & 50% Dominant Pied. You can get some Cinnamons of both sexes, as Bailey is carrying the Cinnamon gene from his Mum. All young will be Opalines & also any Recessive mutations both may carry. If your pairs are ready to breed they will take at least 10 days before you get eggs, but some pairs can take longer. The colour of birds feet mainly relates to their body colour, darker colours will have Bluish Grey feet while Lighter & Pied birds will more likely have feet of a lighter or Pink colour.
  13. Throwback is right, don't panic as he says the end will proable be lost, but it should recover completely. Just keep her quite as you are that's about all you can do. I have had birds loose all their foot & completely recover.
  14. I’m always looking out for something different with Budgies, when you get some thing like that I think it’s very interesting to see if you can work with it [breeding] to concentrate & bring it out more, maybe it’s a new mutation which would be very interesting I would think. No I have never heard of a Lime Budgie.
  15. It certainly looks like Violet to me Sueanneleach & their head look quite good, but when the feathers have grown out a bit more it may be easier to see. Nice chicks.
  16. They are looking great Sunnie...maybe the last one might be a Normal. It's head looks a little too dark for an Oplaine.

Welcome back I hope you have lots of luck with your eggies.
  19. Looking good Kaz, we have been having lots of showers here also & now today the rain has really set in. Has just moved down from Queensland, we were lucky but, it was forecast for Sunday, but it turned out quite a nice day, so got our local show over. Was our first for a few years, only got about 300 birds, not all Budgies. Hoping for better next year. You must be upsetting the local termites Kaz, nothing for them to chew on…LOL..
  20. I have never tried feeding it neat or dry by itself, I use it as a small part of my soft food mix just mainly to supply minerals that they might not get otherwise. I think if you want to increase their protein hard boiled egg would be better & they are always keen to eat that. I have never tried pellets with Budgies, but if you give chooks a choice between pellets & grain they always eat the grain first. Bird have very small crops so you can’t expect them to eat large amounts just small amounts fresh is best. With soft food I have always found it critical the level of moisture in your mix, if it’s too dry they don’t eat it & if too wet [sticky], also they wont eat it, you just need to get it crumbly.
  21. Yes I agree with Libby, that’s what I was thinking that it looks like a Grey wing. Maybe Mum is Greywing & Dad must be split for it. I think Mum looks like an Opaline Greywing Grey Green.

Yes I would suggest it’s back to bed Derek & try getting up a bit later & see if it’s any better…LOL…

Was it a python or venomous kind? I have heard of cases where cats brought small Black snakes into the house that were still alive.
  24. Norm replied to Denise's topic in Breeders Discussion
I think the hen could be about 3 months, but the cock at least twice that age. As long as your son likes them that’s all that matters, is he going to become a breeder or did he want them as pets?
  25. I’ve had 10 eggs…had some with 8 & all hatched, but fostered some of the chicks.
