The Creation Of My New Breeding Room
Well, the painting of the outside is almost completed. Today's big job was to cut out a gap in concrete to allow excess water to run off and not puddle. Job done. I also washed the rest of the outside of the shed and then painted the ouside, with one small bit to go. i will do that tomorrow. I don't think i will paint the inside. There is little point, and the all it will do is increase the paint smell. So tomorrow I will finish painting the outside, do some repairs on the edges, move it into the right position, dyanbolt it down, attach the internal strips to mouse-proof it, and then add the plastic sheets to the outside to weather proof it. When this is all done, I am going to evaluate what i do in regard to lighting, especially at night time, then it will be good to move birds into. I really do look forward to that day. It seems so far away still, but closer today than it ever has been before.

Breeding Pairs 2009
still no photos, but updates Caesar has been doing a good job. I removed the nest box today as the Albino hen perches and the opaline spangle spends all his time in the ice cream container. Earl and Latte have 3 growing young, all who are rung. All look to be opalines, as is expected. Twitch and Kiwi have 3 little ones so far, with more expected. Dumb and Kestral now have 3 little ones, one who is rung, and more expected. DF has begun to check out the nest box, so hopefully her and Dumber will have some eggs coming soon. Photos when i can.

Violet Dominant Pied Yft2?
He looks tiny. I woudl be concerned having a bird so young away from parents. make sure you have some hand rearing mix, so he can have some soft food if needed.

Breeding Pairs 2009
I went through and put some more rings on last night, legrings on birds, I am not Liberace!! Anyway, I shoudl have ringed one earlier, and try as I might, one was too big for the ring. There was no way the 3-1 toe ratio was going to work, and the 2-2 toe ratio was also proving troublesome. What do i do in a moment of budgie crisis? I called Kaz. Kaz suggested I oil the leg and foot up. So I got a syringe, filled it with olive oil (health conscious even then) and coated the leg. I used the 2-2 toe ratio. I managed to get the ring on. What a relief. I checked this morning and all is good. One leg ring has slipped off a little one, so I sat it aside and will put it back on tonight. Caesar's little girl is out perching 24/7 whilst his son is spending some time in the icecream container in the bottom of the cage, and at other times, he is wandering around the floor. I put him back int he nestbox at night, as I think it would be warmer for him, but he does not like being the only one in there. Chick update Caesar - 2 fledging now Earl and Latte - 3 rung chicks (1 a foster) Dumb and Kestral - 2 unrung chicks (1 a foster) - the eldest had the ring come off Twitch and Kiwi - 2 unrung chicks Dumb and DF - no nestbox interest yet. Just a thought to, I am not sure if people remember, but when I went to Perth at the beginning of the year, I had a bird that had broken her leg, and so it was staying at my parents house in a small cage. They took it to the vet and it recovered well. That bird was Kiwi, so I am so pleased to see her being a very good mother. Obviously her leg is great, as she can take the full weight of her partner when mating. This was her during that troublesome time. Proof if there ever was that injuries can be overcome with good vet care, and helpful parents!!!! Pics to come, I know, I said that before, but they will turn up.

Current Batch Of Budgie Babies
can you take her renee? come on, talk yourself up, I want to hear a bit of verbal sparring, like Ali used to do - Honestly, you both have some great birds. To become a better exhibitor, you need good competition, so you both should be looking to push the other one along.

Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
so they are not cinnamon. that is what we are going with now? Dilutes? grey wings? Who knows? GC - I do not think a bird can be a cinnamon wing and a grey wing at the same time. I would imagine that both those characteristics would be stored on the same alelle, so it would not be possible.

Current Batch Of Budgie Babies
that grey wing baby is adorable. I know you still count as a novice Kaz in regard to showing, but there are soem very good birds there that a lot mroe experienced breeders would be happy with

Breeding Pairs 2009
Do you mean she is GOLD ring ? If so GOLD is 2006 making her only three this year.Black is 2008, green 2007, gold 2006. Ah, I see where I went wrong.Still, i am not sure she will get another crack at it. What are you talking about? Who is Bob?

Breeding Pairs 2009
There are so many things it could be, that it is virtually impossible to rule out. If i get them tested, and nothgin shows up, I am in the same situation. I am not going to breed her again. This is why she was down for breeding now, she is an orange right, so this means she is turning 4 this year. This was her shot. I have had a similar problem with another older hen, and the young seem good in another nestbox. If Dumber and DF have young, and the same thing happens, then i will know that it may not be her, but it may be him. Somehow i doubt it. Yes yes, tomorrow will do. have to take them on my phone until I get a new camera. The main reason I am looking forward to finishing my breeding room is that I went out and left Caesar's cage open. The door did not fall properly. I came home, opened up the garage door, which is a double roller door, closed the door, looked at the little white one who had made her way out and was sitting on a ladder that is in there so she can climb back in tonight and said "Oh S$#t!!!", as I realised that the door to his cage was open. Not only had he not escaped, but he was comfortably sitting there, making sure his daughter was okay. In the breeding room, even if they got out of a cage, they would be trapped in the breeding room. In the garage, they could quite easily fly out the door.

Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
so you are looking at two grey green cinnamon spangles and 3 grey green cinnamon wings?

Breeding Pairs 2009
Just did a clean out. One of Twitch and Kiwi's little ones did nto make it. Seems to ahve bleeding from the mouth, could have been a deformed crop. Caesar's kids are well. Dumb and Kestral have their foster nephew/niece growing well, and their first little one hatched, so that is very exciting. Earl and Latte still have their 3 (1 of which is a foster from Dumber and Kestral) going strong. Needs to be rung soon. Dumber has been checking out the nestbox but DF has yet to make any moves in that direction. One spare cage, and I think my first pair of clearwings might go in there. I will keep you posted

I'm Still Around , Been Busy.
Deb, great to hear from you. The new kitchen looks awesome. I have to say, that yellow bench top was not the most attractive look - I love the new cupboards and the floor - very cool. Very nice reptile house. Looks great. I often wonder how Jayden is going at school. How has he adjusted? What are his teachers like? Does he have more good days then bad days? Good to hear the budgies are still around. Taking on more? Wow!! Extending the aviary - even bigger wow!! Pics of the progress would be great, if you get a chance of course. I always wonder how the ones I gave you are going. I gave away my other pet types, so now I just have show types. I hope you have seen my breeding post. Of the four that I got from you, I left Earl and Latte (the grey pair) together and they have 2 young of their own, and one foster baby. The foster baby actually belongs to Cino. She lost 2 young ones due to some type of infection, I think it was form her crop milk, so I fostered her youngest and her remaining fertile egg out. Both young have hatched and are doing well. The only one that has not bred is Midori, and he is on the cards to go down with a mate soon. You can read my breeding thread HERE Great to hear from you.

What Mutation Is It
I think HE is a cobalt violet. The top picture I think HIS colour is a little washed out due to the flash, however in the bottom picture, I believe HIS deeper true colour is showing. So therefore, you have a Cobalt Violet Dominant Pied Cock. We would all love to see some older pics.

Current Batch Of Budgie Babies
I suppose when we look at birds, we are judging them solely on what we see, as we may not know there bloodlines. I once bought two birds off Cec Gearing. Kaz and Renee were both there that day. The blue bird - Caesar - was the better looking bird, but Cec told me that the grey bird - Bruticus - would produce better offspring due to his genes. I suppose that is the difference between good breeders who will go on to great success, and others who simply critique what they see. A good breeder has a plan to produce good young, where other breeders work solely on the visual, without considering the line they come from.

The Creation Of My New Breeding Room
Well, the breeding room is coming along nicely. (let me apologise for the pics, it was getting dark). It is freestanding, has been washed, and now the small amounts of rust have been hit with Killrust. These are the dark sections you can see on the inside walls at the bottom. I am also painting it so it will match the other aviary, and so far one side is done. I have taken some pics on my phone as my camera seems to have died, and I will load these up when i get back - off to dinner at a friend's house. I am taking my nephews to see Harry Potter tomorrow, so the plan is to do some in the morning, then finish it on Thursday. That will mean I am free to go see a kid in the city on Friday, and the birds can go in on the weekend. Here are the current pics The green looks different in all of them. The one below is the closest to the true colour.
