  1. I get mine tonight.
  2. I a no expert on this, some people are much better at this than me, but as I understand it: YF1 can be SF or DF YF2 is only SF If a bird gets a YF1 gene from 1 parent and a YF2 gene from the other parent, it will appear YF2
  3. Good work, however your understanding of the double factor, with the yellow face example is not really right as I understand. SF Yellow face type 1 will give you a yellow faced budgie. DF yellow faced type 1 will give you a white faced budgie. Thinking of it with 2 genes is the right way to go. Just that the YF1 and the YF2 are two different genes. Think of them in the way we think of pieds - it may be dominant or recessive - they are both pieds, but they are both different. Does that make sense? Spangles are a good way to think of it. No spangle genes means a normal looking wing pattern. 1 spangle gene (a single factor) means the wing colours are reversed - black with white tips becomes white with black tips 2 spangle genes ( a double factor) means that the body is different - not just the wings - so a blue bird will be completely white, a green bird will be completely yellow. I think the "budgie genetics for dummies" or the "Idiots guide to budgie genetics" books would sell very well. You can ge those books on everything. I once bought an "Idiots guide to the Bible". Very good explanations Cute.Spangle.Budgie
  4. Pretty simple really. When you want to send a budgie, you need the correct travel cage. Size depends on the number of budgies. You don't want them to have too much room to move around, but not too little so they start attacking each others. I take mine to Australian Air Express, where they measure the box, weigh the box, and then put them on the next QANTAS flight. You book them on a minimum of 1 hour before, and you can pick them up 1 hour after. No water in the box, but it is good to put some millet in there. Not that expensive, it just requires a bit of help from the sending end.
  5. There were no obvious signs with this hen. She had layed an egg, and had proceeded to eat it - when i had checked the nestbox, you could see there still was some yolk remaining. It is quite sad as she was a stunning bird. I have one offspring of hers, so the genes will get passed down, but it is a shame. I forgot to mention that Kiwi has layed another egg, her first in her second round. She seems quite happy with having her youngsters in the box with her, but I will remove them today to the kindy cage. Kaz, how old are your young when you put them in the aviary for the first time?
  6. Lost an eggbound hen last night, not good. In other news.... Removed the nestbox from Dumb and his offspring. All are out and perching well. All young are doing well. Earl and Latte have their first hatching. Based upon timing, it is on of the eggs from Dumber(RIP) and his DF widow. Looking forward to more hatchings. Cin and his Dom Pied partner have 4 eggs, so that is good. DF has 5 eggs. No more laying, just waiting for hatchings now.
  7. There is a pet shop on Camden Valley Way, just near the Forest Lawn Cemetary, that sells cage fronts. You abandoning the ones I gave you?
  8. Only been 4 days since i updated, but it seems like such a long time. New to come tomorrow, but a quick overview. Caesar's kids are doing well in the kindy cage with the two adoptee's from Budgie1981. They are about to be joinged by the two grey opalines from Earl and Latte. Kestral is back in the aviary, and flirting an amazing amount. Dumb has 2 out of three fledged - the grey spangle and the sky blue opaline spangle (his very own mini - me). The DF is yet to fledge. Earl and Latte have a few eggs of their own, and they are sitting on 3 of Dumber(RIP) and his DF Widow. The DF Widow has 3 or 4 of her own. The Green Dom Pied hen paired to the Green Cinnamon Cock have a few eggs of their own, plus 2 from Dumber(RIP) and his DF Widow. A new pair - a dark geen cock and a light greygreen hen - a pair bred by John Hewitt - will get a nestbox tomorrow. A new pair of a Green cock and a greygreen hen - a pair bred by Greg Gregoriou - will get a nestbox tomorrow. A couple of pairs will be removed to the aviary - pairs from Budgie1981. A Henry George bloodline cobalt cinnamon wing boy will go with a John Hewitt bred cobalt opaline girl tomorrow. A Cec Gearing bred Grey cock will go with an Albino girl. That is the plan - we will see how it goes.
  9. blue tack the sunnies arms on
  10. I do no name all mine, but I name some on personality. If you have a picture of the bird, it will help others suggest names
  11. Nice looking bird Shannon, but not as good as Uno. Notice the length of the mask, the size of the head and the width of the body as well.
  12. I look forward to seeing the birds you breed.
  13. I was at Ross' place yesterday, and we put a few spots on a few birds that looked like they had a bit of scaley face. One hen had appeared aggressive and so Ross had removed this hen to a seperate cage. The two hens in question seem to be co-exisitng well.
  14. If her appearance is about half as big as her attitude, then yes, she will be stunning -
  15. I am with Shannon here - I got lost somewhere. Is this right? You got 2 birds from Cec, and bred them. They produced Uno. The pair were going for their second clutch, had layed 5 eggs, when you found her dead. You also got a hen, and she has moulted out very well. The hen is not Uno. They are two different birds. Right?
  16. I agree Renee, every loss hurts. This one especially as he and hsi broher dumb are quite possibly the most beautiful coloured birds I have ever seen. He was special. I have lost pet types, show birds and young birds, but losing him hurts a little bit more.
  17. Well done GB. Your birds are coming along nicely. A lot of good qualities can be seen in them.
  18. Something ruptured inside
  19. Gone far too soon - a brother loses a mirror image.
  20. It has been a bad last couple of days. One of my favourite birds - Dumber - I found dead in the nest box. He had suffered some type of internal rupture. He had been bleeding from the anus. Very sad. Took me a few days to even want to tell everyone. Dumber is one of two identical birds - one of which is in my signature. His breeding partner, DF, is sitting on 7 eggs. I have fostered 4 out to other mothers so far. Very sad. Then tonight, I was checking on the babies, and one of my grey little ones did not look good. I picked it up, and there was a lump of poo stuck to its butt. I removed it and "stuff" gushed out. I do not want to describe it, I almost upchucked then and there, not pretty. I took some photos of the others. Dumber - with Kestral removed, has been looking after these three. There is a grey spangle who has fledged but is still being fed by Dad, an identical young guy like Dad, and a DF spangle, who i thought had a bad leg, but I was worrying about nothing. Earl and Latte have 2 opaline greys Twitch and Kiwi have 4 young. the greygreen dom pied has a lot of attitude - always biting and waving her wings in aggression. the grey is very cute and cuddly. Another cute picture - sleeping in the kindy cage
  21. Quick games a good game - LOL!!!!!!!!!
  22. I would seperate them again. It is not like they were in the same cage. Do not worry - you seem a little too agitated over this.
  23. I did not realise her mother was a pied. Often the discolouration of skin, by that I mean that some parts are pink and some parts have the darker melanin in them, means that different coloured feathers will grow. Pieds often have that type of "skin discolouration" as well, so you will have to wait and see. It is nothing to worry about, but it is interesting. More funt o speculate on than anything else. As for opaline, the colour of the down is a good way to tell. Opaline babies have white down, so it looks like things are headed that way.
