  1. The picture in your signature is a good indication of what the difference is. Pet type to showbird is the equivalent of showbird to thundra at the moment - :sadsorry:
  2. Another big baby, but not as big as thundra. I would name him thunda, to go with thundra :sadsorry: I like how that little one in the last photo is standing pretty much bolt upright. Keep the head up, shoulders back, back straight. Very catwalk, supermodel style. I think a name would be somethign related to a catwalk - maybe Elle if it is a girl, zoolander if it is boy -
  3. they do nto like the leaves as much as they like spinach leaves. They wilt faster and do not last as long, but if that was all they had, as in I did not put sinach in there as well, they would love it
  4. I have had similar problems Dave and I was told it could be yellow belly. So I had to dose them all on tripleC or similar. Since i moved the young one and the egg, which has since hatched, the babies are flourishing. That is what makes me think it was mothers crop that had the infection
  5. So any thoughts on who you might pair the new guy to?
  6. I agree with Kaz. Great looking birds
  7. I give my birds beetroot, the stems and the leaves. I figure that these would be safe.
  8. When the pics load, i want everyone to hum the beginning of ACDC's thunderstruck.
  9. Cinnamon winged spangles? Grey green cinnamon winged spangles? Wow, what a mouthful. You should give birds with long complicated mutations really plain names, like Fred and Tom, or Jan and Jean - :party0011: Imagine if they were at a budgie party. Another budgie flies up to them and says "Hi, aren't you a grey green cinnamon winged spangle?" "yes, names fred" Seems appropriate to me
  10. They are growing fast.
  11. Are the pics of the massive blues coming soon to this thread?
  12. Shame that such a beautiful coupling produced these results
  13. I was going to put these guys down together earlier, but decided against it. If you go back to page 1, I think you will find this is the case. I cannot guarantee that it was not the father who was passing it on. It was one of the two. I suppose my thinking is that I know the breeder of father, i know the quality birds that he has, and if it is from him, I would think it would be very strange. he is younger than the mother, and i expect less problems from him.Interestingly, the two chicks I have moved (one I fostered as an egg) both seem to be thriving, so i do not think it is a gnetic defect, but rather, something in the crop milk they were receiving.
  14. Thanks GB. It almost didn't happen though. I caught Cino and took her out to the aviary in a small carry box, then opened the door and she flew out. I caught my DF in the net, and decided that she was secure enough in there, that I did not need to put her in the carry cage. Anyway, to get out the door of the aviary, I held the carry cage and the net in one hand, and worked the lock with the other. I got out and was walking towards the door into my house, to go through to the garage, when I noticed my DF had wriggled up and was almost out of the net. I walked under the pergola, and she slipped out. She was free!!! She flew towards the door, and realising it was closed she turned and flew back my direction. I had one chance. I took a big swing with the net and woosh, she was caught again!! I clamped my hand on the net above her. There was no way she was getting out again. Luckily I was undercover or she could have flown straight up, and luckily she seemed a little unsure of where to go, as I managed to catch her. All up, she was flying free in the backyard, albeit under a pergola for about 1-2 seconds. Scary experience, high heart rate, i am going to get a cup of tea and have a lie down -
  15. I am not one to see any animal suffer. i think it is our responsibility to euthanase when we have to. I know is $ hard to do, emotionally, but it is for the best.
  16. There have been some changes with my pairs. Caesar is doing well as a single dad, and his two should fledge soon. Twitch and kiwi have their second little one now. Earl and Latte have 3 healthy looking young ones. Dumb and Kestral still have only 1 - none of their have hatched. I have returned Cino to the aviary as she has had a day or two to rest and recover. She layed eggs, but raised none, so she was not tuckered out. I have left Dumb in there and on the advice of someone more knowledgeable than me, I have added a new mate for him. A white DF hen who is just over 12 months old.
  17. Got distracted over the weekend by all the sport on. My Bunnies beat the broncos, and I watched the dogs beat the Titans. With Nth Qld losing to the Tigers and the Maroons getting beaten up, it has been a bad week for Qld Rugby League. I watched the swans lose to the Blues, I watched the Wallabies lose to the All Blacks, I have been watching the aussies play badly at Lords. I will get back to the breeding room this week.
  18. A combination bird, i like that. Sounds like a type of bird you buy from the local chinese pet shop. Two goldfish and a combination bird to go please - What a terriboe stereotype i went with. Just on this, a mate of mine form a chinese background wanted to open a pet shop and a cafe in one. We talked him out of it, as that very same stereotype would work against him. He opened the pet shop, but not the cafe
  19. great looking bird - no wonder he won
  20. That is so good, especially if they turn out as good lookign as omelette and stud's offspring
  21. Did we miss diagnose the mutation of the parents?
  22. What to do with that egg that might or might not be fretile was solved by Cino - she ate it. Since there were no more eggs, and I am not breeding her again, I removed the nestbox. Cino and Dumber will get a couple of days R&R before heading back to the aviary
  23. what is the age difference between the blue chick and its siblings? Are they siblings or is it a foster?
  24. that blue chick is massive - I want one!!!!!!
  25. very cute, but what are we thinking? Middle 2 tail feathers are different? Does that mean spangle? Opaline?
