Need To Bake Eucalyptus Branches?
WOW, very thorough Shauna. It is fair to say that unless birds are housed in a setup entirely in doors, then they run the risk of being exposed to anything that native birds carry. A bird flying at and landing on the wire can drop dust or feathers that may contain a number of diseases. If PBFD could be cured by watered down bleach, I wonder why it is such a problem? I would rather wash down the leaves and run the risk rather than expose them to the possibility of eating leaves that are bleached. I wonder why they say that we should rinse our fruit and veg under fresh water? Why do they not tell us to wash it in a slight bleach solution? I am sure our immune systems can handle a lot more than our budgies'. Also I am not sure that drying the branches in the sun is a good idea. Surely that exposes them to more of the pathogens that you were trying to sterilise for? I am NOT saying that Shauna is over doing it, nor am I saying that her vet is increasing the phobia that many people have regarding exposure to native birds, this is jsut my opinion. Each to their own I suppose. You go with your method, i will go with mine.

Sick?
Perhaps a vet check up might be warranted. This thing, whatever it is, may not kill your bird, but it may weaken him, so if he is accidently in a draft or gets sick with something else, his immune system is already low. I say a vet check up. $50 is what my vet charges. They are at Austral. Where in Sydney are you? Do you have a good avian vet near you?

Australian Plants For Budgies - Which Ones!?
Mine love branches from my Callistemons, also called Bottlebrushes. For my info, click HERE Other than that, mainly Eucalypts, which you know about and can read mroe about HERE What ever you put in this "habitat" you are planning to create, you ahve to realise that it may not last long. Budgerigars will rip and destroy the plants. You may want to have a series of potted natives that you rotate in and out in this "habitat", to give the plants a chance to recover.

A Few Birds I Have And Ideas I Have
I read it, but only briefly. It looks good and there is some good advice offered in there. I will have to re-read it and look at posting some of the advice offered.

Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
my luck sucks - 75% hens and Quiche is male - He will be treasured regardless, though a female travelling companion would be good - nudge nudge, wink wink,

A Few Birds I Have And Ideas I Have
Some nice pairs. You will not get cinnamon cocks from the first pair as hen is not cinnamon. All hens will be cinnamon. If the cock is split for opaline, you may get opaline chicks. Is he split for lacewing?

Recent Cluch Of Bubs
I am not sure what they are eating, but the grey one looks to have a very poopy bottom. Watch that.

New To Bcf - Some Of My Flock
- Quiche...........a Gift For Dave Mcminn
Eggnog, he egg related term of the christmas season. Well done, can't believe I missed that one. Eggnog looks good. Quiche is stunning as always.- Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
She is fantastic, and an excellent foundation hen. She does look like she has an egg bum to me too, so make sure there is another pair down that can foster. Spice can only take so many. I am looking forward to seeing how she goes in the new flights. She might end up the matriach of the breeding room, officially, not just on the score sheet.- Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
That's right, I remember now you said you put some of Ommie's eggs in there. so if the young hatch, we will get spicey googies? 4 fertile is one more than last time, and losing one due to all the "non-budgie" drama that was going on in your life at the time is not likely to happen this time, so all looks promising.- Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
That explains it then I bet you are looking for a lot bigger clutch this time, what with potentially more requests -- Some Flock Shots
Good to hear that the clearwings have settled in well. He looks good in that photo. How is Scruffy going? She was my favourite. She was the one who was feather plucked as a young chick. She is the biggest of them all and has very faint wing markings. This is scruffy on the end in the photo- Mum Died This Afternoon Leaving One Chick
wonder what mum died of?- Greywings
they look great. I have given it some thought, and I do prefer the blue greywings - still- Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
Very cute. Gret shot. I must have missed something. When did you start calling her Spice?- My Birds Wont Stop Breeding!
budgies have recreational sex, meaning they mate without producing eggs, so if you see them mating in the aviary, do not worry, you will not get eggs. In saying, young hens will often lay an egg or two off the perch. Do not worry, it is perfectly normal.- Baby Budgie Pictures
Deb, you should see if you can get this shot without the bars in it, either by taking the shot inside the cage, or by putting the camera and the lens up to the bars and taking the shot. It would, or should win, Budgie of the Month, even year in my opinion.- Finnie's Breeding Journal
You can alwasy foster out of the nest with many into the nest with less- Lutino
Welcome to the forum. I am assuming that you purchased a lutino budgerigar. I am not sure why you are worried about blindness. I have multiple lutino's of different ages and it has never been a problem. In fact, I know that blindness is often associated with albino's, and thus lutino's fall in that category, but I have never heard to the Ino gene causing blindness in budgies. I know that more epxerienced breeders on here will be able to give you more info, but as far as I know, I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about.- Quiche...........a Gift For Dave Mcminn
Very good, though only a hen. So future potentials are Benedict, Souffle, Meringue, Poach, Scramble, Fry, Pavlova, or Pav for sure. Any other ideas. Let me clear up any confusion, Quiche's home is with me- Baby Budgie In Trouble
Thought Puck was going to need a hand to get back in at the end there for a minute. Lucky he had a ledge to perch on, and not a perch, as he would have fallen straight away.- Quiche...........a Gift For Dave Mcminn
I agree, there are so many egg alternative names, but Benedict is the best. - Quiche...........a Gift For Dave Mcminn
