  1. how old are the other chicks? Sometimes removing the mother is the best option
  2. The little ones are all growing up now and are looking to come out. Each cage has an ice cream container with some paper in the bottom and some millet in it for the little ones. Pair 1 - Grey Cock and a Grey Green Spangle Hen Chick 1 - Monster - he is looking sleeker and has some good posture when he perches Chick 2 - Normal Grey - the photo makes this one look a bit like a cinnamon win, but I am thinking normal grey. No dilution of body colour. Chick 3 - Opaline Grey - you can see a lot of white on the head Pair 2 - Green Dominant PiedOpaline/Lutino Cock and Cinnamon Wing Grey Green Hen 1 Chick - a light green opaline Hen with a very clear mantle Pair 3 - Green Spangle Cock and a GreyGreen Hen Chick 1 - Green Normal Hen Chick 2 - Green Normal Cock
  3. Are we sure that he is a recessive pied and not a DF Dominant Pied? Very little markings make me think he ight be a double factor dominant pied.
  4. do the fins come in different colours like the budgies I will have to investigate more
  5. They are at my parents - probably come home on the weekend - Sunday night
  6. Work Continues Finished views Still some rubbish remaining but I will clean that up soon I am very pelased with the new fences. Some little backfilling to do, but all up, I am happy.
  7. My fences are going up Side looking into one neighbour Back looking into the reserve More pics to come soon
  8. GB - sorry to hear about your losses. It is always tough, trust me, I know. I am putting the loss of all my little ones in this thread, from say pages 2- 4 of this thread, I am putting that all down to a mouse infestation I became aware of. I am still unsure of whether that little one is an opaline or not. Sometimes i think that the down is white and sometimes I think it is grey. I will just have to wait and see what happens. I am hoping that he/she is not an opaline. Shannon - thanks for that.
  9. About 5 weeks old, but he is almost the same size as his Dad. I hoep he outgrows his Dad and looks like his Uncle.
  10. It is amazing how fast they grow up. I was looking at cages, and looking under nestboxes to the floor of cages. I could see the little opaline next door, but i could not see Monster. I looked at the cage and I could see the Grey Cock sitting next to the GreygreenSpangle Hen, but where was Monster. It was then that I noticed. It was not the GreyGreen Spangle Hen sitting next to the GreyCock, but rather it was Monster. From floor runner to Perching and flying in two days. They grow up so fast. I did all new seed and water for all cages tonight. Too tired now, new tomorrow.
  11. no no, you are right, at this stage, it looks very clean. We will see how it goes as she moults out
  12. no, I will have to cull some!!!
  13. I know, it has been a long road and I will be thrilled when all my fences are colourbond
  14. I will keep them all for about a year. I will then decide if they stay any longer I have to move some others on though.
  15. If there is one thing that my avairies ahve ahd to be, it is mobile. My fences, barring a disaster, will get done on Wednesday, so all the birds were once more moved out of the aviary. Brushwood fences are to be replaced with Colourbond fences. Rear fence Side Fence Moved aviaries All my birds - look at all the pics and see if you can spot the bird out of place? Answer below If you played the game, you would have noticed in the last picture sitting on top of a nestbox is a DF Hen, looking for somewhere to lay She was caught and returned to her cage - no idea how she got out though.
  16. It sure has been a while since my last update. In that time, there has been one sad loss of a Sommie Pied baby, some reclassification, and generally good growth. Pair 1: Grey Normal and a GreyGreen Spangle Hen - 3 chicks Monster - GreyGreenSpangle Cock Two little ones - Grey Normals Pair 2: Light Green Opaline Dominant Pied/Lutino Cock and Cinnamon Wing Green Hen - 1 Chick Opaline Green Hen Pair 3: Light Green Spangle Cock and GreyGreen Hen - 2 chicks Two Green Chicks - 1 hen and 1 cock (?) More photos over the coming days
  17. It is based upon the fact that the 3rd picture has a bird in it whose parentage or genetic line, has some show bird breeding in it. The smaller head is asociated with pet type birds, the more rectangular head (as you say) is a result of selective breeding over many years to establish different physical traits in the show birds. It is not really a mutation, no more so than different body shapes of people are a mutation, but rather it is a trait amongst show type birds.
  18. birthing centre and morgue. I am happy with that double up
  19. I am even more impressed with this mouse trap after today. It caught the mother mouse and she was killed and binned. How do I know it was the mother mouse? Well, she looked very pregnant for the first thing, but that guarantees nothing. The real big bit of info is the fact that she must have been rushing home and got caught, as she had actually given birth to a baby mouse in there. It had died and she was trapped. I am so impressed with these mouse traps. The most effective ones I have ever seen. I will buy more and strategically place them around my aviaries and house.
  20. yeah, but I feel bad taking them off little kids -
  21. Better too early than too late!!! Of course Macka, feel free to show us hwo it is done. I cannot ever recall seeing a bird of yours. Why is that? Update today Pair 1 - Grey Cock and GreyGreen Spangle Hen Chick 1 - Monster - GreyGreen Spangle Cock - had jumped out of box, but I put him back in - squawker!!! Chick 2 - Grey Normal - will look just like Dad Chick 3 - too young to tell. Pair 2 - Light Green Spangle Cock and Grey Green Hen Chick 1 - Grey Normal Chick 2 - Green Opaline Hen This pairing tells me that Dad is split blue. If not, there is no way that we could get a grey normal. He needs to be carrying the recessive blue gene to get a grey normal. Interesting. Pair 3 - Light Green Opaline Dominant Pied Cock/Lutino and Cinnamon Wing Light Green Hen Chick 1 - Light Green Opaline Dominant Pied Hen Chick 2 - Light Green Opaline Dominant Pied Hen New :hmm: hopefully tomorrow
  22. I am thinking of boycotting this thread due to a lack of information -
  23. I am going. It was at an auction by these guys that I arranged for Kaz to buy a bird last year. Few things I will look at.
